Chapter 7

1 Then1161 said2036 the high749 priest,749 Are these5023 things so?3779

2 And he said,5346 Men,435 brothers,80 and fathers,3962 listen;191 The God2316 of glory1391 appeared3700 to our father3962 Abraham,11 when he was in Mesopotamia,3318 before4250 2228 he dwelled2730 in Charran,5488

3 And said2036 to him, Get1831 you out of your country,1093 and from your kindred,4772 and come1204 into1519 the land1093 which3739 I shall show1166 you.

4 Then5119 came1831 he out of the land1093 of the Chaldaeans,5466 and dwelled2730 in Charran:5488 and from there,1564 when3326 his father3962 was dead,599 he removed3351 him into1519 this5026 land,1093 wherein1519 3757 you now3568 dwell.2730

5 And he gave1325 him none3756 inheritance2817 in it, no, not so much as to set968 his foot4228 on: yet2532 he promised1861 that he would give1325 it to him for a possession,2697 and to his seed4690 after3326 him, when as yet he had5607 no3756 child.5043

6 And God2316 spoke2980 on this3779 wise, That his seed4690 should sojourn1510 3941 in a strange245 land;1093 and that they should bring1402 them into bondage,1402 and entreat2559 them evil2559 four5071 hundred5071 years.2094

7 And the nation1484 to whom3739 they shall be in bondage1398 will I judge,2919 said2036 God:2316 and after3326 that shall they come1831 forth,1831 and serve3000 me in this5129 place.5117

8 And he gave1325 him the covenant1242 of circumcision:4061 and so3779 Abraham begat1080 Isaac,2464 and circumcised4059 him the eighth3590 day;2250 and Isaac2464 begat Jacob;2384 and Jacob2384 begat the twelve1427 patriarchs.3966

9 And the patriarchs,3966 moved2206 with envy,2206 sold591 Joseph2501 into1519 Egypt:125 but God2316 was with him,

10 And delivered1807 him out of all3956 his afflictions,2347 and gave1325 him favor5485 and wisdom4678 in the sight1726 of Pharaoh5328 king935 of Egypt;125 and he made2525 him governor2233 over1909 Egypt125 and all3650 his house.3624

11 Now1161 there came2064 a dearth3042 over1909 all3650 the land1093 of Egypt125 and Chanaan,5477 and great3173 affliction:2347 and our fathers3962 found2147 no3756 sustenance.5527

12 But when Jacob2384 heard191 that there was corn4621 in Egypt,125 he sent1821 out our fathers3962 first.4412

13 And at1722 the second1208 time Joseph2501 was made319 known319 to his brothers;80 and Joseph's2501 kindred1085 was made1096 known5318 to Pharaoh.5328

14 Then1161 sent649 Joseph,2501 and called3333 his father3962 Jacob2384 to him, and all3956 his kindred,4772 three score1440 and fifteen1440 4002 souls.5590

15 So1161 Jacob2384 went2597 down2597 into1519 Egypt,125 and died,5053 he, and our fathers,3962

16 And were carried3346 over3346 into1519 Sychem,4966 and laid5087 in the sepulcher3418 that Abraham11 bought5608 for a sum5092 of money694 of the sons5207 of Emmor1697 the father of Sychem.4966

17 But when2531 the time5550 of the promise1860 drew near,1448 which3739 God2316 had sworn3660 to Abraham,11 the people2992 grew837 and multiplied4129 in Egypt,125

18 Till891 3757 another2087 king935 arose,450 which3739 knew1492 not Joseph.2501

19 The same3778 dealt2686 subtly2686 with our kindred,1085 and evil2559 entreated2559 our fathers,3962 so that they cast4160 1570 out their young1025 children,1025 to the end1519 they might not live.2225

20 In which3739 time2540 Moses3475 was born,1080 and was exceeding3588 2316 fair,791 and nourished397 up in his father's3962 house3624 three5140 months:3376

21 And when he was cast1620 out, Pharaoh's5328 daughter2364 took337 him up, and nourished397 him for her own1438 son.5207

22 And Moses3475 was learned3811 in all3956 the wisdom4678 of the Egyptians,124 and was mighty1415 in words3056 and in deeds.2041

23 And when5613 he was full4137 forty5063 years5063 old,5550 it came305 into1909 his heart2588 to visit1980 his brothers80 the children5207 of Israel.2474

24 And seeing1492 one5100 of them suffer wrong,91 he defended292 him, and avenged4160 1557 him that was oppressed,2669 and smote3960 the Egyptian:124

25 For he supposed3543 his brothers80 would have understood4920 how that God2316 by his hand5495 would deliver1325 them: but they understood4920 not.

26 And the next1966 day2250 he showed3700 himself to them as they strove,3164 and would have set4900 them at1519 one1515 again,1515 saying,2036 Sirs,435 you are brothers;80 why2444 do91 you wrong91 one240 to another?240

27 But he that did91 his neighbor4139 wrong91 thrust683 him away,683 saying,2036 Who5101 made2525 you a ruler758 and a judge1348 over1909 us?

28 Will2309 you kill337 me, as you did337 the Egyptian124 yesterday?5504

29 Then1161 fled5343 Moses3475 at1722 this5129 saying,3056 and was a stranger3941 in the land1093 of Madian,3099 where3757 he begat1080 two1417 sons.5207

30 And when forty5062 years2094 were expired,4137 there appeared3700 to him in the wilderness2048 of mount3735 Sina4614 an angel32 of the Lord2962 in a flame5395 of fire4442 in a bush.942

31 When Moses3475 saw1492 it, he wondered2296 at the sight:3705 and as he drew4334 near4334 to behold2657 it, the voice5456 of the LORD2962 came1096 to him,

32 Saying, I am the God2316 of your fathers,3962 the God2316 of Abraham,11 and the God2316 of Isaac,2464 and the God2316 of Jacob.2384 Then1161 Moses3475 trembled,1096 1790 and dared5111 not behold.2657

33 Then1161 said2036 the Lord2962 to him, Put3089 off3089 your shoes5266 from your feet:4228 for the place5117 where1722 3739 you stand2476 is holy40 ground.1093

34 I have seen,1492 I have seen1492 the affliction2561 of my people2992 which3588 is in Egypt,125 and I have heard191 their groaning,4726 and am come2597 down2597 to deliver1807 them. And now3568 come,1204 I will send649 you into1519 Egypt.125

35 This5126 Moses3475 whom3739 they refused,720 saying,2036 Who5101 made2525 you a ruler758 and a judge?1348 the same5126 did God2316 send649 to be a ruler758 and a deliverer3086 by the hand5495 of the angel32 which3588 appeared3700 to him in the bush.942

36 He brought1806 them out, after that he had showed4160 wonders5059 and signs4592 in the land1093 of Egypt,125 and in the Red2281 sea,2281 and in the wilderness2048 forty5062 years.2094

37 This3778 is that Moses,3475 which3588 said2036 to the children5207 of Israel,2474 A prophet4396 shall the Lord2962 your5216 God2316 raise450 up to you of your5216 brothers,80 like5613 to me; him shall you hear.191

38 This3778 is he, that was in the church1577 in the wilderness2048 with the angel32 which3588 spoke2980 to him in the mount3735 Sina,4614 and with our fathers:3962 who3739 received1209 the lively2198 oracles3051 to give1325 to us:

39 To whom3739 our fathers3962 would2309 not obey,5255 1036 but thrust683 him from them, and in their hearts2588 turned4762 back4762 again4762 into1519 Egypt,125

40 Saying2036 to Aaron,2 Make4160 us gods2316 to go4313 before4313 us: for as for this3778 Moses,3475 which3739 brought1806 us out of the land1093 of Egypt,125 we know1492 not what5101 is become1096 of him.

41 And they made3447 a calf3447 in those1565 days,2250 and offered321 sacrifice2378 to the idol,1497 and rejoiced2165 in the works2041 of their own hands.5495

42 Then1161 God2316 turned,4762 and gave3860 them up to worship3000 the host4756 of heaven;3772 as it is written1125 in the book976 of the prophets,4396 O you house3624 of Israel,2474 have you offered4374 to me slain4968 beasts4968 and sacrifices2378 by the space of forty5062 years2094 in the wilderness?2048

43 Yes,2532 you took353 up the tabernacle4633 of Moloch,3434 and the star798 of your5216 god2316 Remphan,4481 figures5179 which3739 you made4160 to worship4352 them: and I will carry3351 you away3351 beyond1900 Babylon.897

44 Our fathers3962 had1510 the tabernacle4633 of witness3142 in the wilderness,2048 as he had appointed,1299 speaking2980 to Moses,3475 that he should make4160 it according2596 to the fashion5179 that he had seen.3708

45 Which3739 also2532 our fathers3962 that came1237 after3326 brought1521 in with Jesus2424 into1722 the possession2697 of the Gentiles,1484 whom3739 God2316 drove1856 out before575 the face4383 of our fathers,3962 to the days2250 of David;1138

46 Who3739 found2147 favor5485 before1799 God,2316 and desired154 to find2147 a tabernacle4638 for the God2316 of Jacob.2384

47 But Solomon4672 built3618 him an house.3624

48 However,235 the most5310 High5310 dwells2730 not in temples3485 made5499 with hands;5499 as said3004 the prophet,4396

49 Heaven3772 is my throne,2362 and earth1093 is my footstool:5286 4228 what4169 house3624 will you build3618 me? said3004 the Lord:2962 or2228 what5101 is the place5117 of my rest?2663

50 Has not my hand5495 made4160 all3956 these5023 things?

51 You stiff necked4644 and uncircumcised564 in heart2588 and ears,3775 you do always104 resist496 the Holy40 Ghost:4151 as your5216 fathers3962 did, so2532 do you.

52 Which5101 of the prophets4396 have not your5216 fathers3962 persecuted?1377 and they have slain615 them which3588 showed4293 before4293 of the coming1660 of the Just1342 One; of whom3739 you have been1096 now3568 the betrayers4273 and murderers:5406

53 Who3748 have received2983 the law3551 by the disposition1296 of angels,32 and have not kept5442 it.

54 When they heard191 these5023 things, they were cut1282 to the heart,2588 and they gnashed1031 on1909 him with their teeth.3599

55 But he, being5225 full4134 of the Holy40 Ghost,4151 looked816 up steadfastly816 into1519 heaven,3772 and saw1492 the glory1391 of God,2316 and Jesus2424 standing2476 on1537 the right1188 hand of God,2316

56 And said,2036 Behold,2400 I see2334 the heavens3772 opened,455 and the Son5207 of man444 standing2476 on1537 the right1188 hand of God.2316

57 Then1161 they cried2896 out with a loud3173 voice,5456 and stopped4912 their ears,3775 and ran3729 on him with one3661 accord,3661

58 And cast1544 him out of the city,4172 and stoned3036 him: and the witnesses3144 laid659 down their clothes2440 at3844 a young3494 man's3494 feet,4228 whose name2564 was Saul.4569

59 And they stoned3036 Stephen,4736 calling1941 on God, and saying,3004 Lord2962 Jesus,2424 receive1209 my spirit.4151

60 And he kneeled5087 1119 down, and cried2896 with a loud3173 voice,5456 Lord,2962 lay2476 not this5026 sin266 to their charge.846 And when he had said2036 this,5124 he fell asleep.2837

Chapter 7

1 THEN the high priest asked Stephen, Are these things so?

2 He said, Men, brethren and our fathers, harken: The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was still in Mes-opo- ta'mi-a before he came to dwell in Ha'ran.

3 And he said to him, Get out of your land and from your relatives and come into the land which I shall show you.

4 Then Abraham left the land of the Chalde'ans and he came and settled in Ha'ran and from thence, after his father's death, God removed him into this land in which you now live.

5 And he gave him no inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give it as an inheritance to him and to his posterity, when as yet he had no son.

6 God spoke to him and said, Your descendants will be settlers in a foreign land where they will be enslaved and mistreated for a period of four hundred years.

7 But the people to whom they will be enslaved I will condemn, said God, and after that, they shall go out and serve me in this land.

8 God gave Ab'raham the covenant of circumcision; and then Abraham begat Isaac, and circumcised him on the eighth day; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat our twelve patriarchs.

9 And our forefathers were jealous of Joseph; so they sold him into Egypt; but God was with him.

10 And he saved him from all his oppressors and gave him favor and wisdom before Pharaoh, king of Egypt; and Pharaoh appointed Joseph an overlord over Egypt and over all his house.

11 Now there came a famine which brought great distress throughout Egypt and in the land of Ca'naan so that our forefathers found no sustenance.

12 But when Jacob heard that there was wheat in Egypt, he sent out our forefathers on their first venture.

13 When they went the second time, Joseph made himself known to his brothers; and Joseph's family was made known to Pharaoh.

14 Then Joseph sent and brought his father Jacob and all his family, seventy-five souls in number.

15 So Jacob went down to Egypt where he and our forefathers died.

16 And he was removed to Sy'chem and buried in the sepulchre which Abraham had bought for a sum of money from the sons of Ha'mor.

17 But when the time of the promise was at hand, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people had already increased and become strong in Egypt,

18 Till another king reigned over Egypt who knew not Joseph.

19 He dealt deceitfully with our kindred, ill treated our forefathers, and commanded that they cast out their male children to the end that they might not live.

20 During that very period Moses was born, and he was favored before God, so that for three months he was nourished in his father's house.

21 And when he was cast away by his mother, Pharaoh's daughter found him and reared him as a son for herself.

22 So Moses was trained in all the wisdom of the E-gyp'tians and he was well versed in his words and also in his deeds.

23 And when he was forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren, the children of Israel.

24 When he saw one of his own kindred mistreated, he avenged him and did justice to him, and killed the E-gyp'tian who had mistreated him.

25 For he thought his brethren, the Is'ra-elites, would understand that God would grant them deliverance by his hand, but they understood not.

26 And the next day he found them quarreling one with another and he pleaded with them that they might be reconciled, saying, Men, you are brothers; why are you wronging one another?

27 But the one who was wronging his fellow thrust him aside and said to him, Who appointed you leader and judge over us?

28 Perhaps you want to kill me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday.

29 And because of this saying, Moses fled and took refuge in the land of Ma'di-an where two sons were born to him.

30 And when he had completed forty years, there appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Si'nai, an angel of the LORD in a flame of fire in a bush.

31 When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to look at it, the LORD spoke to him in a loud voice,

32 Saying, I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob. And Moses trembled and dared not look at the sight.

33 Then the LORD said to him, Take off your shoes from your feet, for the ground on which you stand is holy.

34 Already I have seen the affliction of my people in Egypt, I have heard their groans, and I have come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send you into Egypt.

35 This Moses whom they had denied, saying, Who appointed you leader and judge over us?, this very one God sent to be a leader and deliverer to them by the hand of the angel which had appeared to him in the bush.

36 It was he who brought them out after he had performed miracles, wonders, and signs in the land of Egypt and in the Red sea and in the wilderness for forty years.

37 This is the Moses who said to the children of Israel, The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet, like me, from among your brethren; give heed to him.

38 It was he who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him and to our fathers in Mount Sinai: He is the one who received the living words to give to us.

39 Yet our fathers would not listen to him, but they left him, and in their hearts turned towards Egypt.

40 They said to Aar'on, Make us gods to go before us, for this very Moses who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.

41 And they made a calf for themselves in those days and offered sacrifices to idols and were pleased with the work of their hands.

42 Then God turned and gave them up that they might worship the host of heaven as it is written in the book of the prophets, O Is'rael- ites, why have you offered me slain animals or sacrifices during the period of forty years in the wilderness?

43 Indeed you have borne the tabernacle of Mo'loch and the star of the god Rem'phan; and you have made images to worship them; therefore I will remove you beyond Bab'ylon.

44 Behold the tabernacle of the testimony of our fathers was in the wilderness just as he who spoke to Moses had commanded him to make it after the pattern which he had shown him.

45 And this very tabernacle, our fathers, together with Joshua, brought into the land which God took away from the peoples whom he drove out before them and gave it to them for an inheritance, and it was handed down until the days of David:

46 Who found favor before God and asked that he might find a dwelling place for the God of Jacob.

47 But Solomon built God a house.

48 Yet the Most High did not dwell in temples made with hands for, as the prophet had said,

49 Heaven is my throne, and earth is the footstool under my feet. What kind of house will you build me? says the LORD, or Where is the place of my rest?

50 Behold, has not my hand made all these things?

51 O you stubborn and insincere in heart and hearing, you always resist the Holy Spirit: as your fathers did, so do you.

52 Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted and murdered? Especially have they slain those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One whom you betrayed and murdered.

53 You received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it.

54 When they heard these things, they were enraged, and gnashed their teeth at him.

55 But he, full of faith and Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.

56 And he said, Behold I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.

57 Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears and with one accord, shouted threats against Stephen.

58 And they seized him and took him outside the city and began to stone him. Those who testified against him placed their clothes under the care of a young man called Saul.

59 And they stoned Stephen as he prayed, saying, Our LORD Jesus, accept my spirit.

60 And as he knelt down, he cried with a loud voice and said, Our LORD, do not hold this sin against them. When he had said this, he passed away.

1 THEN the high priest asked Stephen, Are these things so?

2 And he said,5346 Men,435 brothers,80 and fathers,3962 listen;191 The God2316 of glory1391 appeared3700 to our father3962 Abraham,11 when he was in Mesopotamia,3318 before4250 2228 he dwelled2730 in Charran,5488

3 And he said to him, Get out of your land and from your relatives and come into the land which I shall show you.

6 And God2316 spoke2980 on this3779 wise, That his seed4690 should sojourn1510 3941 in a strange245 land;1093 and that they should bring1402 them into bondage,1402 and entreat2559 them evil2559 four5071 hundred5071 years.2094

6 God spoke to him and said, Your descendants will be settlers in a foreign land where they will be enslaved and mistreated for a period of four hundred years.

7 And the nation1484 to whom3739 they shall be in bondage1398 will I judge,2919 said2036 God:2316 and after3326 that shall they come1831 forth,1831 and serve3000 me in this5129 place.5117

7 But the people to whom they will be enslaved I will condemn, said God, and after that, they shall go out and serve me in this land.

9 And our forefathers were jealous of Joseph; so they sold him into Egypt; but God was with him.

10 And he saved him from all his oppressors and gave him favor and wisdom before Pharaoh, king of Egypt; and Pharaoh appointed Joseph an overlord over Egypt and over all his house.

11 Now1161 there came2064 a dearth3042 over1909 all3650 the land1093 of Egypt125 and Chanaan,5477 and great3173 affliction:2347 and our fathers3962 found2147 no3756 sustenance.5527

11 Now there came a famine which brought great distress throughout Egypt and in the land of Ca'naan so that our forefathers found no sustenance.

12 But when Jacob heard that there was wheat in Egypt, he sent out our forefathers on their first venture.

13 And at1722 the second1208 time Joseph2501 was made319 known319 to his brothers;80 and Joseph's2501 kindred1085 was made1096 known5318 to Pharaoh.5328

13 When they went the second time, Joseph made himself known to his brothers; and Joseph's family was made known to Pharaoh.

14 Then1161 sent649 Joseph,2501 and called3333 his father3962 Jacob2384 to him, and all3956 his kindred,4772 three score1440 and fifteen1440 4002 souls.5590

14 Then Joseph sent and brought his father Jacob and all his family, seventy-five souls in number.

15 So1161 Jacob2384 went2597 down2597 into1519 Egypt,125 and died,5053 he, and our fathers,3962

15 So Jacob went down to Egypt where he and our forefathers died.

16 And were carried3346 over3346 into1519 Sychem,4966 and laid5087 in the sepulcher3418 that Abraham11 bought5608 for a sum5092 of money694 of the sons5207 of Emmor1697 the father of Sychem.4966

16 And he was removed to Sy'chem and buried in the sepulchre which Abraham had bought for a sum of money from the sons of Ha'mor.

17 But when2531 the time5550 of the promise1860 drew near,1448 which3739 God2316 had sworn3660 to Abraham,11 the people2992 grew837 and multiplied4129 in Egypt,125

17 But when the time of the promise was at hand, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people had already increased and become strong in Egypt,

18 Till891 3757 another2087 king935 arose,450 which3739 knew1492 not Joseph.2501

18 Till another king reigned over Egypt who knew not Joseph.

19 The same3778 dealt2686 subtly2686 with our kindred,1085 and evil2559 entreated2559 our fathers,3962 so that they cast4160 1570 out their young1025 children,1025 to the end1519 they might not live.2225

19 He dealt deceitfully with our kindred, ill treated our forefathers, and commanded that they cast out their male children to the end that they might not live.

20 In which3739 time2540 Moses3475 was born,1080 and was exceeding3588 2316 fair,791 and nourished397 up in his father's3962 house3624 three5140 months:3376

20 During that very period Moses was born, and he was favored before God, so that for three months he was nourished in his father's house.

21 And when he was cast1620 out, Pharaoh's5328 daughter2364 took337 him up, and nourished397 him for her own1438 son.5207

21 And when he was cast away by his mother, Pharaoh's daughter found him and reared him as a son for herself.

22 And Moses3475 was learned3811 in all3956 the wisdom4678 of the Egyptians,124 and was mighty1415 in words3056 and in deeds.2041

22 So Moses was trained in all the wisdom of the E-gyp'tians and he was well versed in his words and also in his deeds.

23 And when5613 he was full4137 forty5063 years5063 old,5550 it came305 into1909 his heart2588 to visit1980 his brothers80 the children5207 of Israel.2474

23 And when he was forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren, the children of Israel.

24 And seeing1492 one5100 of them suffer wrong,91 he defended292 him, and avenged4160 1557 him that was oppressed,2669 and smote3960 the Egyptian:124

24 When he saw one of his own kindred mistreated, he avenged him and did justice to him, and killed the E-gyp'tian who had mistreated him.

25 For he supposed3543 his brothers80 would have understood4920 how that God2316 by his hand5495 would deliver1325 them: but they understood4920 not.

25 For he thought his brethren, the Is'ra-elites, would understand that God would grant them deliverance by his hand, but they understood not.

26 And the next1966 day2250 he showed3700 himself to them as they strove,3164 and would have set4900 them at1519 one1515 again,1515 saying,2036 Sirs,435 you are brothers;80 why2444 do91 you wrong91 one240 to another?240

26 And the next day he found them quarreling one with another and he pleaded with them that they might be reconciled, saying, Men, you are brothers; why are you wronging one another?

27 But he that did91 his neighbor4139 wrong91 thrust683 him away,683 saying,2036 Who5101 made2525 you a ruler758 and a judge1348 over1909 us?

27 But the one who was wronging his fellow thrust him aside and said to him, Who appointed you leader and judge over us?

28 Will2309 you kill337 me, as you did337 the Egyptian124 yesterday?5504

28 Perhaps you want to kill me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday.

29 Then1161 fled5343 Moses3475 at1722 this5129 saying,3056 and was a stranger3941 in the land1093 of Madian,3099 where3757 he begat1080 two1417 sons.5207

29 And because of this saying, Moses fled and took refuge in the land of Ma'di-an where two sons were born to him.

30 And when forty5062 years2094 were expired,4137 there appeared3700 to him in the wilderness2048 of mount3735 Sina4614 an angel32 of the Lord2962 in a flame5395 of fire4442 in a bush.942

30 And when he had completed forty years, there appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Si'nai, an angel of the LORD in a flame of fire in a bush.

31 When Moses3475 saw1492 it, he wondered2296 at the sight:3705 and as he drew4334 near4334 to behold2657 it, the voice5456 of the LORD2962 came1096 to him,

31 When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to look at it, the LORD spoke to him in a loud voice,

32 Saying, I am the God2316 of your fathers,3962 the God2316 of Abraham,11 and the God2316 of Isaac,2464 and the God2316 of Jacob.2384 Then1161 Moses3475 trembled,1096 1790 and dared5111 not behold.2657

32 Saying, I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob. And Moses trembled and dared not look at the sight.

33 Then1161 said2036 the Lord2962 to him, Put3089 off3089 your shoes5266 from your feet:4228 for the place5117 where1722 3739 you stand2476 is holy40 ground.1093

33 Then the LORD said to him, Take off your shoes from your feet, for the ground on which you stand is holy.

34 Already I have seen the affliction of my people in Egypt, I have heard their groans, and I have come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send you into Egypt.

35 This Moses whom they had denied, saying, Who appointed you leader and judge over us?, this very one God sent to be a leader and deliverer to them by the hand of the angel which had appeared to him in the bush.

36 He brought1806 them out, after that he had showed4160 wonders5059 and signs4592 in the land1093 of Egypt,125 and in the Red2281 sea,2281 and in the wilderness2048 forty5062 years.2094

36 It was he who brought them out after he had performed miracles, wonders, and signs in the land of Egypt and in the Red sea and in the wilderness for forty years.

37 This3778 is that Moses,3475 which3588 said2036 to the children5207 of Israel,2474 A prophet4396 shall the Lord2962 your5216 God2316 raise450 up to you of your5216 brothers,80 like5613 to me; him shall you hear.191

37 This is the Moses who said to the children of Israel, The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet, like me, from among your brethren; give heed to him.

38 This3778 is he, that was in the church1577 in the wilderness2048 with the angel32 which3588 spoke2980 to him in the mount3735 Sina,4614 and with our fathers:3962 who3739 received1209 the lively2198 oracles3051 to give1325 to us:

38 It was he who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him and to our fathers in Mount Sinai: He is the one who received the living words to give to us.

39 To whom3739 our fathers3962 would2309 not obey,5255 1036 but thrust683 him from them, and in their hearts2588 turned4762 back4762 again4762 into1519 Egypt,125

39 Yet our fathers would not listen to him, but they left him, and in their hearts turned towards Egypt.

40 Saying2036 to Aaron,2 Make4160 us gods2316 to go4313 before4313 us: for as for this3778 Moses,3475 which3739 brought1806 us out of the land1093 of Egypt,125 we know1492 not what5101 is become1096 of him.

40 They said to Aar'on, Make us gods to go before us, for this very Moses who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.

41 And they made3447 a calf3447 in those1565 days,2250 and offered321 sacrifice2378 to the idol,1497 and rejoiced2165 in the works2041 of their own hands.5495

41 And they made a calf for themselves in those days and offered sacrifices to idols and were pleased with the work of their hands.

42 Then God turned and gave them up that they might worship the host of heaven as it is written in the book of the prophets, O Is'rael- ites, why have you offered me slain animals or sacrifices during the period of forty years in the wilderness?

43 Yes,2532 you took353 up the tabernacle4633 of Moloch,3434 and the star798 of your5216 god2316 Remphan,4481 figures5179 which3739 you made4160 to worship4352 them: and I will carry3351 you away3351 beyond1900 Babylon.897

43 Indeed you have borne the tabernacle of Mo'loch and the star of the god Rem'phan; and you have made images to worship them; therefore I will remove you beyond Bab'ylon.

44 Our fathers3962 had1510 the tabernacle4633 of witness3142 in the wilderness,2048 as he had appointed,1299 speaking2980 to Moses,3475 that he should make4160 it according2596 to the fashion5179 that he had seen.3708

44 Behold the tabernacle of the testimony of our fathers was in the wilderness just as he who spoke to Moses had commanded him to make it after the pattern which he had shown him.

45 And this very tabernacle, our fathers, together with Joshua, brought into the land which God took away from the peoples whom he drove out before them and gave it to them for an inheritance, and it was handed down until the days of David:

46 Who3739 found2147 favor5485 before1799 God,2316 and desired154 to find2147 a tabernacle4638 for the God2316 of Jacob.2384

46 Who found favor before God and asked that he might find a dwelling place for the God of Jacob.

47 But Solomon4672 built3618 him an house.3624

47 But Solomon built God a house.

48 However,235 the most5310 High5310 dwells2730 not in temples3485 made5499 with hands;5499 as said3004 the prophet,4396

48 Yet the Most High did not dwell in temples made with hands for, as the prophet had said,

49 Heaven3772 is my throne,2362 and earth1093 is my footstool:5286 4228 what4169 house3624 will you build3618 me? said3004 the Lord:2962 or2228 what5101 is the place5117 of my rest?2663

49 Heaven is my throne, and earth is the footstool under my feet. What kind of house will you build me? says the LORD, or Where is the place of my rest?

50 Has not my hand5495 made4160 all3956 these5023 things?

50 Behold, has not my hand made all these things?

51 You stiff necked4644 and uncircumcised564 in heart2588 and ears,3775 you do always104 resist496 the Holy40 Ghost:4151 as your5216 fathers3962 did, so2532 do you.

51 O you stubborn and insincere in heart and hearing, you always resist the Holy Spirit: as your fathers did, so do you.

52 Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted and murdered? Especially have they slain those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One whom you betrayed and murdered.

53 Who3748 have received2983 the law3551 by the disposition1296 of angels,32 and have not kept5442 it.

53 You received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it.

54 When they heard191 these5023 things, they were cut1282 to the heart,2588 and they gnashed1031 on1909 him with their teeth.3599

54 When they heard these things, they were enraged, and gnashed their teeth at him.

55 But he, being5225 full4134 of the Holy40 Ghost,4151 looked816 up steadfastly816 into1519 heaven,3772 and saw1492 the glory1391 of God,2316 and Jesus2424 standing2476 on1537 the right1188 hand of God,2316

55 But he, full of faith and Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.

56 And said,2036 Behold,2400 I see2334 the heavens3772 opened,455 and the Son5207 of man444 standing2476 on1537 the right1188 hand of God.2316

56 And he said, Behold I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.

57 Then1161 they cried2896 out with a loud3173 voice,5456 and stopped4912 their ears,3775 and ran3729 on him with one3661 accord,3661

57 Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears and with one accord, shouted threats against Stephen.

58 And cast1544 him out of the city,4172 and stoned3036 him: and the witnesses3144 laid659 down their clothes2440 at3844 a young3494 man's3494 feet,4228 whose name2564 was Saul.4569

58 And they seized him and took him outside the city and began to stone him. Those who testified against him placed their clothes under the care of a young man called Saul.

59 And they stoned3036 Stephen,4736 calling1941 on God, and saying,3004 Lord2962 Jesus,2424 receive1209 my spirit.4151

59 And they stoned Stephen as he prayed, saying, Our LORD Jesus, accept my spirit.

60 And he kneeled5087 1119 down, and cried2896 with a loud3173 voice,5456 Lord,2962 lay2476 not this5026 sin266 to their charge.846 And when he had said2036 this,5124 he fell asleep.2837

60 And as he knelt down, he cried with a loud voice and said, Our LORD, do not hold this sin against them. When he had said this, he passed away.
