Chapter 11

1 AND the apostles and the brethren who were in Judµa heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God.

2 And when Simon Peter had come up to Jerusalem, those who upheld the circumcision contended with him,

3 Saying he had entered into the houses of uncircumcised men and had eaten with them.

4 Then Simon began to recite the facts one after another, saying,

5 As I was praying in Joppa, I saw in a vision something like a linen cloth descending from the sky, and it was tied at its four corners; and it came even to me.

6 And as I looked at it, I saw that there were in it fourfooted beasts, and creeping things of the earth, and fowls of the air.

7 Then I heard a voice saying to me, Simon, arise, kill and eat.

8 And I said, Far be it, my Lord: for never has anything defiled and unclean entered my mouth.

9 But again the voice from heaven said to me, What God has cleansed, do not call unclean.

10 This happened three times: then everything was lifted up into heaven.

11 And in that very hour, three men who were sent to me by Cornelius from Cµs-are'a came and stood at the gate of the courtyard where I was staying.

12 And the spirit said to me, Go with them, doubting nothing. And these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered the man's house.

13 And he related to us how he had seen an angel in his house, who stood and said to him, Send to the city of Joppa, and bring Simon who is called Peter;

14 And he shall speak to you words by which you and all of your household shall be saved.

15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them, as on us at the beginning.

16 Then I remembered that word of our LORD, when he said, John indeed baptized with water; but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.

17 Now, therefore, if God has equally given the gifts to the Gentiles who believe in our LORD Jesus Christ, just as he gave to us, who am I that I should dispute God?

18 When they heard these words, they held their peace and glorified God, saying, Perhaps God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance unto life.

19 Now those who had been dispersed by the persecution which occurred on account of Stephen, traveled as far as Phoe-ni'ci-a and even to the land of Cyprus, and to An'tioch, preaching the word to none but to the Jews only.

20 But there were some men among them from Cyprus and from Cyrene; these men entered into An'ti-och and spoke to the Greeks and preached concerning our LORD Jesus.

21 And the hand of the LORD was with them: and a great number believed, and turned to the LORD.

22 Then tidings of these things came to the attention of the members of the congregation at Jerusalem: and they sent Bar'nabas to An'ti-och.

23 When he came there and saw the grace of God, he was glad, and he pleaded with them that they should follow our LORD with all their hearts.

24 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith: and many people were added to our LORD.

25 Then Bar'na-bas departed to Tar'sus, to seek for Saul.

26 And when he had found him, he brought him to An'ti-och. And for the whole year they assembled together in the church, and taught a great many people. The disciples were called Christians first at An'ti-och and from that time on.

27 And in those days came prophets from Jerusalem to An'ti-och.

28 And one of them, named Ag'a-bus, stood up and foretold by the spirit, that a great famine was to come throughout the land: the famine which occurred in the days of Clau'di-us Cµ'sar.

29 Then the disciples, each one according to his ability, determined to set aside for relief to the brethren who dwelt in Ju-dµ'a.

30 This they did, and sent it there to the elders by the hands of Bar'na-bas and Saul.

Chapter 11

1 And the apostles652 and brothers80 that were in Judaea2449 heard191 that the Gentiles1484 had also2532 received1209 the word3056 of God.2316

2 And when3753 Peter4074 was come305 up to Jerusalem,2414 they that were of the circumcision4061 contended1252 with him,

3 Saying,3004 You went1525 in to men435 uncircumcised,203 2192 and did eat4906 with them.

4 But Peter4074 rehearsed756 the matter from the beginning,756 and expounded1620 it by order2517 to them, saying,3004

5 I was in the city4172 of Joppa2445 praying:4336 and in a trance1611 I saw1492 a vision,3705 A certain5100 vessel4632 descend,2597 as it had been a great3173 sheet,3607 let2524 down2524 from heaven3772 by four5064 corners;746 and it came2064 even891 to me:

6 On the which3739 when I had fastened816 my eyes, I considered,2657 and saw1492 four footed5074 beasts5074 of the earth,1093 and wild2342 beasts,2342 and creeping2062 things, and fowls4071 of the air.3772

7 And I heard191 a voice5456 saying3004 to me, Arise,450 Peter;4074 slay2380 and eat.5315

8 But I said,2036 Not so,3365 Lord:2962 for nothing3956 3763 common2839 or2228 unclean169 has at3763 any3763 time entered1525 into1519 my mouth.4750

9 But the voice5456 answered611 me again1537 1208 from heaven,3772 What3739 God2316 has cleansed,2511 that call2840 not you common.2839

10 And this5124 was done1096 three5151 times:5151 and all537 were drawn385 up again3825 into1519 heaven.3772

11 And, behold,2400 immediately1824 there were three5140 men435 already come2186 to the house3614 where1722 3739 I was, sent649 from Caesarea2542 to me.

12 And the Spirit4151 bade2036 me go4905 with them, nothing3367 doubting.1252 Moreover1161 these3778 six1803 brothers80 accompanied2064 4862 me, and we entered1525 into1519 the man's435 house:3624

13 And he showed518 us how4459 he had seen1492 an angel32 in his house,3624 which stood2476 and said2036 to him, Send649 men435 to Joppa,2445 and call3343 for Simon,4613 whose3588 surname1941 is Peter;4074

14 Who3739 shall tell2980 you words,4487 whereby1722 3739 you and all3956 your house3624 shall be saved.4982

15 And as I began756 to speak,2980 the Holy40 Ghost4151 fell1968 on1909 them, as on1909 us at1722 the beginning.746

16 Then1161 remembered3415 I the word4487 of the Lord,2962 how5613 that he said,3004 John2491 indeed3303 baptized907 with water;5204 but you shall be baptized907 with the Holy40 Ghost.4151

18 When they heard191 these5023 things, they held2270 their peace,2270 and glorified1392 God,2316 saying,3004 Then686 has God2316 also2532 to the Gentiles1484 granted1325 repentance3341 to life.2222

21 And the hand5495 of the Lord2962 was with them: and a great4183 number706 believed,4100 and turned1994 to the Lord.2962

22 Then1161 tidings3056 of these846 things came191 to the ears3775 of the church1577 which3588 was in Jerusalem:2414 and they sent1821 forth1821 Barnabas,921 that he should go1330 as far2193 as Antioch.490

23 Who,3739 when he came,3854 and had seen1492 the grace5485 of God,2316 was glad,5463 and exhorted3870 them all,3956 that with purpose4286 of heart2588 they would hold4347 to the Lord.2962

24 For he was a good18 man,435 and full4134 of the Holy40 Ghost4151 and of faith:4102 and much2425 people3793 was added4369 to the Lord.2962

27 And in these5125 days2250 came2718 prophets4396 from Jerusalem2414 to Antioch.490

28 And there stood450 up one1520 of them named3686 Agabus,13 and signified4591 by the Spirit4151 that there should3195 be great3173 dearth3042 throughout1909 all3650 the world:3625 which3748 came1096 to pass in the days1909 of Claudius2804 Caesar.2541
