Chapter 11

1 AND the apostles and the brethren who were in Judµa heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God.

2 And when Simon Peter had come up to Jerusalem, those who upheld the circumcision contended with him,

3 Saying he had entered into the houses of uncircumcised men and had eaten with them.

4 Then Simon began to recite the facts one after another, saying,

5 As I was praying in Joppa, I saw in a vision something like a linen cloth descending from the sky, and it was tied at its four corners; and it came even to me.

6 And as I looked at it, I saw that there were in it fourfooted beasts, and creeping things of the earth, and fowls of the air.

7 Then I heard a voice saying to me, Simon, arise, kill and eat.

8 And I said, Far be it, my Lord: for never has anything defiled and unclean entered my mouth.

9 But again the voice from heaven said to me, What God has cleansed, do not call unclean.

10 This happened three times: then everything was lifted up into heaven.

11 And in that very hour, three men who were sent to me by Cornelius from Cµs-are'a came and stood at the gate of the courtyard where I was staying.

12 And the spirit said to me, Go with them, doubting nothing. And these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered the man's house.

13 And he related to us how he had seen an angel in his house, who stood and said to him, Send to the city of Joppa, and bring Simon who is called Peter;

14 And he shall speak to you words by which you and all of your household shall be saved.

15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them, as on us at the beginning.

16 Then I remembered that word of our LORD, when he said, John indeed baptized with water; but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.

17 Now, therefore, if God has equally given the gifts to the Gentiles who believe in our LORD Jesus Christ, just as he gave to us, who am I that I should dispute God?

18 When they heard these words, they held their peace and glorified God, saying, Perhaps God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance unto life.

19 Now those who had been dispersed by the persecution which occurred on account of Stephen, traveled as far as Phoe-ni'ci-a and even to the land of Cyprus, and to An'tioch, preaching the word to none but to the Jews only.

20 But there were some men among them from Cyprus and from Cyrene; these men entered into An'ti-och and spoke to the Greeks and preached concerning our LORD Jesus.

21 And the hand of the LORD was with them: and a great number believed, and turned to the LORD.

22 Then tidings of these things came to the attention of the members of the congregation at Jerusalem: and they sent Bar'nabas to An'ti-och.

23 When he came there and saw the grace of God, he was glad, and he pleaded with them that they should follow our LORD with all their hearts.

24 For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith: and many people were added to our LORD.

25 Then Bar'na-bas departed to Tar'sus, to seek for Saul.

26 And when he had found him, he brought him to An'ti-och. And for the whole year they assembled together in the church, and taught a great many people. The disciples were called Christians first at An'ti-och and from that time on.

27 And in those days came prophets from Jerusalem to An'ti-och.

28 And one of them, named Ag'a-bus, stood up and foretold by the spirit, that a great famine was to come throughout the land: the famine which occurred in the days of Clau'di-us Cµ'sar.

29 Then the disciples, each one according to his ability, determined to set aside for relief to the brethren who dwelt in Ju-dµ'a.

30 This they did, and sent it there to the elders by the hands of Bar'na-bas and Saul.

1 Es kam191 aber1161 vor2596 die Apostel652 und2532 Brüder80, die in dem jüdischen2449 Lande waren5607, daß3754 auch2532 die Heiden1484 hätten1209 Gottes2316 Wort3056 angenommen1209.

2 Und2532 da3753 Petrus4074 hinaufkam gen1519 Jerusalem2414, zankten1252 mit4314 ihm846, die aus1537 der Beschneidung4061 waren305,

3 und2532 sprachen: Du bist eingegangen1525 zu4314 den Männern435, die Vorhaut haben2192, und hast mit4906 ihnen846 gegessen!

4 Petrus4074 aber1161 hub an756 und erzählte1620 es ihnen846 nacheinander her2517 und sprach3004:

5 Ich1473 war2252 in1722 der Stadt4172 Joppe2445 im Gebet4336 und2532 war2064 entzückt und2532 sah1492 ein5100 Gesicht3705, nämlich ein Gefäß4632 herniederfahren wie5613 ein groß3173 leinen Tuch3607 mit vier5064 Zipfeln746 und niedergelassen2524 vom1537 Himmel3772, und kam2597 bis891 zu1722 mir1700.

6 Darein1519 sah816 ich und2532 ward gewahr2657 und2532 sah1492 vierfüßige Tiere5074 der3739 Erde1093 und2532 wilde Tiere2342 und2532 Gewürm2062 und Vögel4071 des Himmels3772.

7 Ich hörete aber1161 eine Stimme5456, die sprach3004 zu191 mir3427: Stehe auf450, Petrus4074, schlachte2380 und25325315!

8 Ich aber1161 sprach2036: O nein3365, HErr2962; denn3754 es ist1525 nie3763 kein Gemeines2839 noch2228 Unreines169 in1519 meinen3450 Mund4750 gegangen.

9 Aber1161 die Stimme5456 antwortete611 mir3427 zum andernmal1208 vom Himmel3772: Was GOtt2316 gereiniget hat2511, das3739 mache2840 du4771 nicht3361 gemein.

10 Das5124 geschah aber1161 dreimal5151; und2532 ward1096 alles537 wieder3825 hinauf gen1519 Himmel3772 gezogen.

11 Und2532 siehe2400, von575 Stund‘ an1824 stunden drei5140 Männer435 vor1909 dem4314 Hause3614, darinnen ich war2252, gesandt649 von Cäsarea2542 zu2186 mir3165.

12 Der Geist4151 aber1161 sprach2036 zu mir3427, ich sollte mit ihnen gehen1525 und2532 nicht3367 zweifeln1252. Es kamen4905 aber mit mir1698 diese3778 sechs1803 Brüder80, und2532 wir gingen2064 in1519 des846 Mannes435 Haus3624.

13 Und5037 er846 verkündigte518 uns2254, wie4459 er gesehen1492 hätte einen Engel32 in1722 seinem Hause3624 stehen2476, der zu1519 ihm gesprochen hätte: Sende649 Männer435 gen Joppe2445 und2532 laß fordern3343 den Simon4613 mit2532 dem Zunamen1941 Petrus4074;

14 der3739 wird dir4571 Worte4487 sagen, dadurch du2980 selig4982 werdest und2532 dein4675 ganzes3956 Haus3624.

15 Indem aber1161 ich3165 anfing756 zu1722 reden2980, fiel1968 der Heilige40 Geist4151 auf1909 sie846 gleichwie2532 auf1909 uns2248 am1722 ersten Anfang746.

16 Da5613 dachte3415 ich an das Wort4487 des HErrn2962, als er sagte3004: Johannes2491 hat1722 mit Wasser5204 getauft907; ihr5210 aber1161 sollt mit dem Heiligen40 Geist4151 getauft907 werden.

17 So1487 nun3767 GOtt2316 ihnen846 gleiche2470 Gaben gegeben1325 hat wie5613 auch2532 uns2254, die da glauben4100 an1909 den HErrn2962 JEsus2424 Christus, wer5101 war2252 ich1473, daß ich könnte GOtt2316 wehren2967?

18 Da sie1325 das5023 höreten, schwiegen2270 sie stille und1161 lobeten GOtt2316 und2532 sprachen3004: So686 hat191 GOtt2316 auch2532 den Heiden1484 Buße3341 gegeben1325 zum1519 Leben2222!

19 Die aber zerstreuet waren in der Trübsal2347, so sich1289 über1909 Stephanus4736 erhub, gingen umher1330 bis2193 gen Phönizien5403 und2532 Zypern2954 und2532 Antiochien490 und redeten2980 das Wort3056 zu575 niemand3367 denn1508 allein3440 zu den3303 Juden2453.

20 Es waren2258 aber1161 etliche5100 unter ihnen846, Männer435 von1537 Zypern2953 und2532 Kyrene2956, die3748 kamen1525 gen Antiochien490 und redeten2980 auch zu1519 den Griechen1675 und predigten das Evangelium2097 vom HErrn2962 JEsu2424.

21 Und2532 die Hand5495 des846 HErrn2962 war2258 mit3326 ihnen, und5037 eine große4183 Zahl706 ward gläubig4100 und bekehrete sich1994 zu1909 dem HErrn2962.

22 Es kam1330 aber1161 diese Rede3056 von4012 ihnen vor1722 die3588 Ohren191 der Gemeinde1577 zu1519 Jerusalem2414; und2532 sie sandten1821 Barnabas921, daß er846 hinginge bis2193 gen Antiochien490,

23 welcher3739, da er hinkommen war3854 und2532 sah1492 die Gnade5485 Gottes2316, ward er froh und2532 ermahnete sie5463 alle3956, daß sie3870 mit festem4286 Herzen2588 an dem HErrn2962 bleiben wollten4357.

24 Denn3754 er2532 war2258 ein frommer18 Mann435, voll4134 Heiligen40 Geistes4151 und2532 Glaubens4102. Und2532 es ward4369 ein groß Volk3793 dem HErrn2962 zugetan.

25 Barnabas921 aber1161 zog aus1831 gen Tarsus5019, Saulus4569 wieder zu1519 suchen327.

26 Und2532 da er846 ihn fand2147, führete er846 ihn gen Antiochien490. Und1161 sie71 blieben4863 bei1722 der Gemeinde1577 ein ganzes3650 Jahr1763 und2532 lehreten viel2425 Volks3793; daher die Jünger3101 am1722 ersten4412 zu1519 Antiochien490 Christen5546 genannt wurden1096.

27 In1722 denselbigen Tagen2250 kamen2718 Propheten4396 von575 Jerusalem2414 gen1519 Antiochien490.

28 Und1161 einer unter1537 ihnen846, mit1909 Namen3686 Agabus13, stund auf450 und deutete4591 durch1223 den Geist4151 eine große3173 Teurung, die da kommen sollte3195 über1909 den ganzen3650 Kreis der1520 Erde3625, welche geschah1096 unter dem Kaiser2541 Claudius.

29 Aber1161 unter den Jüngern3101 beschloß3724 ein5100 jeglicher1538, nachdem er846 vermochte2141, zu senden3992 eine Handreichung1248 den Brüdern80, die in1722 Judäa2449 wohneten;
