Matthew

Chapter 26

1 And2532 it came to pass,1096 when3753 Jesus2424 had finished5055 all3956 these5128 sayings,3056 he said2036 unto his848 disciples,3101

2 Ye know1492 that3754 after3326 two1417 days2250 is1096 the feast of the3588 passover,3957 and2532 the3588 Son5207 of man444 is betrayed3860 to be crucified.4717

3 Then5119 assembled together4863 the3588 chief priests,749 and2532 the3588 scribes,1122 and2532 the3588 elders4245 of the3588 people,2992 unto1519 the3588 palace833 of the3588 high priest,749 who was called3004 Caiaphas,2533

4 And2532 consulted4823 that2443 they might take2902 Jesus2424 by subtlety,1388 and2532 kill615 him.

5 But1161 they said,3004 Not3361 on1722 the3588 feast1859 day, lest3363 there be1096 an uproar2351 among1722 the3588 people.2992

6 Now1161 when Jesus2424 was1096 in1722 Bethany,963 in1722 the house3614 of Simon4613 the3588 leper,3015

7 There came4334 unto him846 a woman1135 having2192 an alabaster box211 of very precious927 ointment,3464 and2532 poured2708 it on1909 his846 head,2776 as he sat345 at meat.

8 But1161 when his846 disciples3101 saw1492 it, they had indignation,23 saying,3004 To1519 what purpose5101 is this3778 waste?684

9 For1063 this5124 ointment3464 might1410 have been sold4097 for much,4183 and2532 given1325 to the poor.4434

10 When1161 Jesus2424 understood1097 it, he said2036 unto them,846 Why5101 trouble3930 2873 ye the3588 woman?1135 for1063 she hath wrought2038 a good2570 work2041 upon1519 me.1691

11 For1063 ye have2192 the3588 poor4434 always3842 with3326 you;1438 but1161 me1691 ye have2192 not3756 always.3842

12 For1063 in that3778 she hath poured906 this5124 ointment3464 on1909 my3450 body,4983 she did4160 it for my3165 burial.1779

13 Verily281 I say3004 unto you,5213 Wheresoever3699 1437 this5124 gospel2098 shall be preached2784 in1722 the3588 whole3650 world,2889 there shall also2532 this,3739 that this woman3778 hath done,4160 be told2980 for1519 a memorial3422 of her.846

14 Then5119 one1520 of the3588 twelve,1427 called3004 Judas2455 Iscariot,2469 went4198 unto4314 the3588 chief priests,749

15 And said2036 unto them, What5101 will2309 ye give1325 me,3427 and I2504 will deliver3860 him846 unto you?5213 And1161 they3588 covenanted2476 with him846 for thirty5144 pieces of silver.694

16 And2532 from575 that time5119 he sought2212 opportunity2120 to2443 betray3860 him.846

17 Now1161 the3588 first4413 day of the3588 feast of unleavened bread106 the3588 disciples3101 came4334 to Jesus,2424 saying3004 unto him,846 Where4226 wilt2309 thou that we prepare2090 for thee4671 to eat5315 the3588 passover?3957

18 And1161 he3588 said,2036 Go5217 into1519 the3588 city4172 to4314 such a man,1170 and2532 say2036 unto him,846 The3588 Master1320 saith,3004 My3450 time2540 is2076 at hand;1451 I will keep4160 the3588 passover3957 at4314 thy house4571 with3326 my3450 disciples.3101

19 And2532 the3588 disciples3101 did4160 as5613 Jesus2424 had appointed4929 them;846 and2532 they made ready2090 the3588 passover.3957

20 Now1161 when the even3798 was come,1096 he sat down345 with3326 the3588 twelve.1427

21 And2532 as they846 did eat,2068 he said,2036 Verily281 I say3004 unto you,5213 that3754 one1520 of1537 you5216 shall betray3860 me.3165

22 And2532 they were exceeding sorrowful,3076 4970 and began756 every one1538 of them846 to say3004 unto him,846 Lord,2962 3385 is1510 it I?1473

23 And1161 he3588 answered611 and said,2036 He that dippeth1686 his hand5495 with3326 me1700 in1722 the3588 dish,5165 the same3778 shall betray3860 me.3165

24 The3588 Son5207 of man444 goeth5217 as2531 it3303 is written1125 of4012 him: 846 but1161 woe3759 unto that1565 man444 by1223 whom3739 the3588 Son5207 of man444 is betrayed!3860 it had been2258 good2570 for846 that1565 man444 if1487 he had not3756 been born.1080

25 Then1161 Judas,2455 which betrayed3860 him,846 answered611 and said,2036 Master,4461 3385 is1510 it I?1473 He said3004 unto him,846 Thou4771 hast said.2036

26 And1161 as they846 were eating,2068 Jesus2424 took2983 bread,740 and2532 blessed2127 it, and broke2806 it, and2532 gave1325 it to the3588 disciples,3101 and2532 said,2036 Take,2983 eat;5315 this5124 is2076 my3450 body.4983

27 And2532 he took2983 the3588 cup,4221 and2532 gave thanks,2168 and gave1325 it to them,846 saying,3004 Drink4095 ye all3956 of1537 it;846

28 For1063 this5124 is2076 my3450 blood129 of3588 the3588 new2537 testament,1242 which is shed1632 for4012 many4183 for1519 the remission859 of sins.266

29 But1161 I say3004 unto you,5213 I will not3364 drink4095 henceforth575 737 of1537 this5127 fruit1081 of the3588 vine,288 until2193 that1565 day2250 when3752 I drink4095 it846 new2537 with3326 you5216 in1722 my3450 Father's3962 kingdom.932

30 And2532 when they had sung a hymn,5214 they went out1831 into1519 the3588 mount3735 of Olives.1636

31 Then5119 saith3004 Jesus2424 unto them,846 All3956 ye5210 shall be offended4624 because1722 of me1698 1722 this5026 night: 3571 for1063 it is written,1125 I will smite3960 the3588 shepherd,4166 and2532 the3588 sheep4263 of the3588 flock4167 shall be scattered abroad.1287

32 But1161 after I3165 am risen again,1453 I will go before4254 you5209 into1519 Galilee.1056

33 1161 Peter4074 answered611 and said2036 unto him,846 Though1499 all3956 men shall be offended4624 because1722 of thee,4671 yet will I1473 never3763 be offended.4624

34 Jesus2424 said5346 unto him,846 Verily281 I say3004 unto thee,4671 That3754 1722 this5026 night,3571 before4250 the cock220 crow,5455 thou shalt deny533 me3165 thrice.5151

35 Peter4074 said3004 unto him,846 Though2579 I3165 should1163 die599 with4862 thee,4671 yet will I not3364 deny533 thee.4571 Likewise3668 also2532 said2036 all3956 the3588 disciples.3101

36 Then5119 cometh2064 Jesus2424 with3326 them846 unto1519 a place5564 called3004 Gethsemane,1068 and2532 saith3004 unto the3588 disciples,3101 Sit2523 ye here,847 while2193 3739 I go565 and pray4336 yonder.1563

37 And2532 he took with3880 him Peter4074 and2532 the3588 two1417 sons5207 of Zebedee,2199 and began756 to be sorrowful3076 and2532 very heavy.85

38 Then5119 saith3004 he unto them,846 My3450 soul5590 is2076 exceeding sorrowful,4036 even unto2193 death: 2288 tarry3306 ye here,5602 and2532 watch1127 with3326 me.1700

39 And2532 he went4281 a little farther,3397 and fell4098 on1909 his848 face,4383 and prayed,4336 2532 saying,3004 O my3450 Father,3962 if1487 it be2076 possible,1415 let this5124 cup4221 pass3928 from575 me: 1700 nevertheless4133 not3756 as5613 I1473 will,2309 but235 as5613 thou4771 wilt.

40 And2532 he cometh2064 unto4314 the3588 disciples,3101 and2532 findeth2147 them846 asleep,2518 and2532 saith3004 unto Peter,4074 What,3779 could2480 ye not3756 watch1127 with3326 me1700 one3391 hour?5610

41 Watch1127 and2532 pray,4336 that2443 ye enter1525 not3361 into1519 temptation: 3986 the3588 spirit4151 indeed3303 is willing,4289 but1161 the3588 flesh4561 is weak.772

42 He went away565 again3825 the1537 second time,1208 and prayed,4336 saying,3004 O my3450 Father,3962 if1487 this5124 cup4221 may1410 not3756 pass away3928 from575 me,1700 except3362 I drink4095 it,846 thy4675 will2307 be done.1096

43 And2532 he came2064 and found2147 them846 asleep2518 again:3825 for1063 their846 eyes3788 were2258 heavy.916

44 And2532 he left863 them,846 and went away565 again,3825 and prayed4336 the1537 third time,5154 saying2036 the3588 same848 words.3056

45 Then5119 cometh2064 he to4314 his848 disciples,3101 and2532 saith3004 unto them,846 Sleep on2518 now,3063 and2532 take your rest: 373 behold,2400 the3588 hour5610 is at hand,1448 and2532 the3588 Son5207 of man444 is betrayed3860 into1519 the hands5495 of sinners.268

46 Rise,1453 let us be going: 71 behold,2400 he is at hand1448 that doth betray3860 me.3165

47 And2532 while he846 yet2089 spake,2980 lo,2400 Judas,2455 one1520 of the3588 twelve,1427 came,2064 and2532 with3326 him846 a great4183 multitude3793 with3326 swords3162 and2532 staves,3586 from575 the3588 chief priests749 and2532 elders4245 of the3588 people.2992

48 Now1161 he that betrayed3860 him846 gave1325 them846 a sign,4592 saying,3004 Whomsoever3739 302 I shall kiss,5368 that same846 is2076 he: hold him fast.2902 846

49 And2532 forthwith2112 he came4334 to Jesus,2424 and said,2036 Hail,5463 master;4461 and2532 kissed2705 him.846

50 And1161 Jesus2424 said2036 unto him,846 Friend,2083 wherefore1909 3739 art thou come? Then3918 came4334 they, and laid1911 hands5495 on1909 Jesus,2424 and2532 took2902 him.846

51 And,2532 behold,2400 one1520 of them3588 which were with3326 Jesus2424 stretched out1614 his hand,5495 and drew645 his848 sword,3162 and2532 struck3960 a servant1401 of the3588 high priest's,749 and smote off851 his846 ear.5621

52 Then5119 said3004 Jesus2424 unto him,846 Put up again654 thy4675 sword3162 into1519 his846 place: 5117 for1063 all3956 they that take2983 the sword3162 shall perish622 with1722 the sword.3162

53 2228 Thinkest1380 thou that3754 I cannot1410 3756 now737 pray3870 to my3450 Father,3962 and2532 he shall presently give3936 me3427 more4119 than2228 twelve1427 legions3003 of angels?32

54 But how4459 then3767 shall the3588 Scriptures1124 be fulfilled,4137 that3754 thus3779 it must1163 be?1096

55 In1722 that same1565 hour5610 said2036 Jesus2424 to the3588 multitudes,3793 Are ye come out1831 as5613 against1909 a thief3027 with3326 swords3162 and2532 staves3586 for to take4815 me?3165 I sat2516 daily2596 2250 with4314 you5209 teaching1321 in1722 the3588 temple,2411 and2532 ye laid no hold2902 3756 on me.3165

56 But1161 all3650 this5124 was done,1096 that2443 the3588 Scriptures1124 of the3588 prophets4396 might be fulfilled.4137 Then5119 all3956 the3588 disciples3101 forsook863 him,846 and fled.5343

57 And1161 they that had laid hold2902 on Jesus2424 led him away520 to4314 Caiaphas2533 the3588 high priest,749 where3699 the3588 scribes1122 and2532 the3588 elders4245 were assembled.4863

58 But1161 Peter4074 followed190 him846 afar off575 3113 unto2193 the3588 high priest's749 palace,833 and2532 went1525 in,2080 and sat2521 with3326 the3588 servants,5257 to see1492 the3588 end.5056

59 Now1161 the3588 chief priests,749 and2532 elders,4245 and2532 all3650 the3588 council,4892 sought2212 false witness5577 against2596 Jesus,2424 to3704 put him to death;2289 846

60 But2532 found2147 none:3756 yea, though2532 many4183 false witnesses5575 came,4334 yet found2147 they none.3756 At the last1161 5305 came4334 two1417 false witnesses,5575

61 And said,2036 this3778 fellow said,5346 I am able1410 to destroy2647 the3588 temple3485 of God,2316 and2532 to build3618 it846 in1223 three5140 days.2250

62 And2532 the3588 high priest749 arose,450 and said2036 unto him,846 Answerest611 thou nothing?3762 what5101 is it which these3778 witness against2649 thee?4675

63 But1161 Jesus2424 held his peace.4623 And2532 the3588 high priest749 answered611 and said2036 unto him,846 I adjure1844 thee4571 by2596 the3588 living2198 God,2316 that2443 thou tell2036 us2254 whether1487 thou4771 be1488 the3588 Christ,5547 the3588 Son5207 of God.2316

64 Jesus2424 saith3004 unto him,846 Thou4771 hast said: 2036 nevertheless4133 I say3004 unto you,5213 Hereafter575 737 shall ye see3700 the3588 Son5207 of man444 sitting2521 on1537 the right hand1188 of power,1411 and2532 coming2064 in1909 the3588 clouds3507 of heaven.3772

65 Then5119 the3588 high priest749 rent1284 his848 clothes,2440 saying,3004 He hath spoken blasphemy;987 what5101 further2089 need5532 have2192 we of witnesses?3144 behold,2396 now3568 ye have heard191 his846 blasphemy.988

66 What5101 think1380 ye?5213 1161 They3588 answered611 and said,2036 He is2076 guilty1777 of death.2288

67 Then5119 did they spit1716 in1519 his846 face,4383 and2532 buffeted2852 him;846 and1161 others3588 smote him with the palms of their hands,4474

68 saying,3004 Prophesy4395 unto us,2254 thou Christ,5547 Who5101 is2076 he that smote3817 thee?4571

69 Now1161 Peter4074 sat2521 without1854 in1722 the3588 palace:833 and2532 a3391 damsel3814 came4334 unto him,846 saying,3004 Thou4771 also2532 wast2258 with3326 Jesus2424 of Galilee.1057

70 But1161 he3588 denied720 before1715 them all,3956 saying,3004 I know1492 not3756 what5101 thou sayest.3004

71 And1161 when he846 was gone out1831 into1519 the3588 porch,4440 another243 maid saw1492 him,846 and2532 said3004 unto them3588 that were there,1563 This3778 fellow was2258 also2532 with3326 Jesus2424 of Nazareth.3480

72 And2532 again3825 he denied720 with3326 an oath,3727 I do not3756 know1492 the3588 man.444

73 And1161 after3326 a while3397 came4334 unto him they that stood by,2476 and said2036 to Peter,4074 Surely230 thou4771 also2532 art1488 one of1537 them;846 for1063 thy4675 speech2981 betrayeth4160 1212 thee.4571

74 Then5119 began756 he to curse2653 and2532 to swear,3660 saying, I know1492 not3756 the3588 man.444 And2532 immediately2112 the cock220 crew.5455

75 And2532 Peter4074 remembered3415 the3588 word4487 of Jesus,2424 which said2046 unto him,846 Before4250 the cock220 crow,5455 thou shalt deny533 me3165 thrice.5151 And2532 he went1831 out,1854 and wept2799 bitterly.4090

Matthew

Chapter 26

1 WHEN Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said to his disciples,

2 You know that after two days will be the passover, and the Son of man will be betrayed to be crucified.

3 Then the high priests and the scribes and the elders of the people assembled in the court yard of the high priest, who is called Caiaphas.

4 And they took counsel concerning Jesus, to arrest him by a snare and kill him.

5 And they said, Not on the feast day, so as not to cause a riot among the people.

6 And when Jesus was at Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

7 A woman came up to him with an alabaster vessel of precious perfume, and she poured it upon the head of Jesus, while he was reclining.

8 When his disciples saw it, they were dis- pleased, and said, Why is this loss?

9 For it could have been sold for a great deal, and given to the poor.

10 But Jesus understood it and said to them, Why are you troubling the woman? She has done a good work to me.

11 For you always have the poor with you, but you will not have me always.

12 But this one who poured the perfume on my body, did it as for my burial.

13 And truly I say to you, Wherever this my gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told as a memorial to her.

14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas of Iscariot, went to the high priests;

15 And he said to them, What are you willing to give me, and I will deliver him to you? And they promised him thirty pieces of silver.

16 And from that time he sought an opportunity to betray him.

17 On the first day of unleavened bread, the disciples came up to Jesus and said to him, Where do you wish that we may prepare the passover for you to eat?

18 And he said to them, Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, Our Master says, My time has come, I will observe the passover with my disciples at your house.

19 And his disciples did as Jesus had commanded them; and they prepared the passover.

20 And when it was evening, he was reclining with his twelve disciples.

21 And while they were eating he said, Truly I say to you, that one of you will betray me.

22 And they felt very sad, and began to say to him one by one, Why, is it I, my Lord?

23 And he answered and said, He who dips his hand with me in the dish, he will betray me.

24 The Son of man is going through, just as it is written concerning him; but woe to the man by whose hand the Son of man is betrayed! it would have been far better for that man never to have been born.

25 Then Judas the traitor answered and said, Master, perhaps it is I? Jesus said to him, You say that.

26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread and blessed it, and he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and he said, Take, eat; this is my body.

27 Then he took the cup and gave thanks, and gave it to them and said, Take, drink of it, all of you.

28 This is my blood of the new covenant which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

29 But I say to you, from now on I shall not drink from this fruit of the vine, until the day when I drink it anew with you in the kingdom of God.

30 And they offered praise, and went out to the Mount of Olives.

31 Then Jesus said to them, All of you will deny me this night; for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of his flock will be scattered.

32 But after I am risen, I will be in Galilee before you.

33 Peter answered and said to him, Even if every man should deny you, I will never deny you.

34 Jesus said to him, Truly I say to you, that in this very night, before the cock crows, you will deny me three times.

35 Peter said to him, Even if I must die with you, I will never deny you. All the disciples said likewise.

36 Then Jesus came with them to a place which is called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, Sit down here, while I go to pray.

37 And he took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and he began to be sorrowful and oppressed.

38 He said to them, My soul is sorrowful even to death; wait for me here, and watch with me.

39 And he went a little further and fell on his face, and prayed saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; but let it be, not as I will, but as you.

40 Then he came to his disciples and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, So, you were not able to watch with me even for one hour?

41 Awake and pray, that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is ready, but the body is weak.

42 He went away again the second time and prayed and said, O my Father, if this cup cannot pass, and if I have to drink it, let it be according to your will.

43 He came again and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.

44 And he left them and went away again and prayed the third time, and he said the same word.

45 Then he came to his disciples and said to them, Sleep from now on and get your rest; behold, the hour has come, and the Son of man will be delivered into the hands of sinners.

46 Arise, let us go; behold, he who is to deliver me has arrived.

47 While he was speaking, behold, Judas the traitor, one of the twelve, came and with him a large crowd with swords and staves, from the high priests and the elders of the people.

48 Now Judas the traitor had given them a sign, saying, He whom I kiss, it is he, arrest him.

49 And immediately he came up to Jesus and said, Peace, Master; and he kissed him.

50 Jesus said to him, Is it for this that you have come, my friend? Then they came near and laid hands on Jesus, and arrested him.

51 And behold, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew a sword, and struck it at the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.

52 Then Jesus said to him, Return the sword to its place; for all who take swords will die by swords.

53 Or do you think that I cannot ask of my Father, and he will now raise up for me more than twelve legions of angels?

54 How then could the scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?

55 At that very hour Jesus said to the people, Have you come out with swords and staves to arrest me like a bandit? I sat with you every day, teaching in the temple, and you did not arrest me.

56 But this has happened so that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples left him, and fled.

57 And those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had assembled.

58 But Simon Peter followed him afar off, up to the courtyard of the high priest, and he went inside and sat with the soldiers, to see the end.

59 Now the high priests and the elders and the whole council were seeking witnesses against Jesus, so that they might put him to death.

60 But they could not find any; then there came a great many false witnesses; but at the end two came forward,

61 And said, This man said, I can tear down the temple of God, and build it in three days.

62 And the high priest stood up and said to him, You are not answering anything. What is it that these men testify against you?

63 But Jesus was silent. Then the high priest answered and said to him, I adjure you by the living God, to tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God?

64 Jesus said to him, You say that. But I say to you that from henceforth you will see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of the power, and coming upon the clouds of the sky.

65 The high priest then rent his clothes and said, Behold, he is blaspheming; why therefore do we need witnesses? behold, you have now heard his blasphemy.

66 What else do you want? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.

67 Then they spat in his face, and struck him on his head, and others beat him,

68 Saying, O Christ, prophesy to us; who smote you?

69 Now Peter sat outside in the courtyard; and a maidservant came up to him, and said to him, You also were with Jesus the Nazarene.

70 But he denied it before all of them, and said, I do not understand what you are saying.

71 And as he was going to the porch, another one saw him, and she said to them, This man was also there with Jesus the Nazarene.

72 Again he denied it with oaths, I do not know the man.

73 After a while, those who were standing came up, and said to Peter, Truly you also are one of them, for even your speech proves it.

74 Then he began to curse and to swear, I do not know the man. At that very hour the cock crowed.

75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which he had said to him, Before the cock crows, you will deny me three times. And he went outside and wept bitterly.

Matthew

Chapter 26

1 And2532 it came to pass,1096 when3753 Jesus2424 had finished5055 all3956 these5128 sayings,3056 he said2036 unto his848 disciples,3101

1 WHEN Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said to his disciples,

2 Ye know1492 that3754 after3326 two1417 days2250 is1096 the feast of the3588 passover,3957 and2532 the3588 Son5207 of man444 is betrayed3860 to be crucified.4717

2 You know that after two days will be the passover, and the Son of man will be betrayed to be crucified.

3 Then the high priests and the scribes and the elders of the people assembled in the court yard of the high priest, who is called Caiaphas.

4 And2532 consulted4823 that2443 they might take2902 Jesus2424 by subtlety,1388 and2532 kill615 him.

4 And they took counsel concerning Jesus, to arrest him by a snare and kill him.

5 But1161 they said,3004 Not3361 on1722 the3588 feast1859 day, lest3363 there be1096 an uproar2351 among1722 the3588 people.2992

5 And they said, Not on the feast day, so as not to cause a riot among the people.

6 Now1161 when Jesus2424 was1096 in1722 Bethany,963 in1722 the house3614 of Simon4613 the3588 leper,3015

6 And when Jesus was at Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

7 There came4334 unto him846 a woman1135 having2192 an alabaster box211 of very precious927 ointment,3464 and2532 poured2708 it on1909 his846 head,2776 as he sat345 at meat.

7 A woman came up to him with an alabaster vessel of precious perfume, and she poured it upon the head of Jesus, while he was reclining.

8 But1161 when his846 disciples3101 saw1492 it, they had indignation,23 saying,3004 To1519 what purpose5101 is this3778 waste?684

8 When his disciples saw it, they were dis- pleased, and said, Why is this loss?

9 For1063 this5124 ointment3464 might1410 have been sold4097 for much,4183 and2532 given1325 to the poor.4434

9 For it could have been sold for a great deal, and given to the poor.

10 When1161 Jesus2424 understood1097 it, he said2036 unto them,846 Why5101 trouble3930 2873 ye the3588 woman?1135 for1063 she hath wrought2038 a good2570 work2041 upon1519 me.1691

10 But Jesus understood it and said to them, Why are you troubling the woman? She has done a good work to me.

11 For1063 ye have2192 the3588 poor4434 always3842 with3326 you;1438 but1161 me1691 ye have2192 not3756 always.3842

11 For you always have the poor with you, but you will not have me always.

12 For1063 in that3778 she hath poured906 this5124 ointment3464 on1909 my3450 body,4983 she did4160 it for my3165 burial.1779

12 But this one who poured the perfume on my body, did it as for my burial.

13 And truly I say to you, Wherever this my gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told as a memorial to her.

14 Then5119 one1520 of the3588 twelve,1427 called3004 Judas2455 Iscariot,2469 went4198 unto4314 the3588 chief priests,749

14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas of Iscariot, went to the high priests;

15 And said2036 unto them, What5101 will2309 ye give1325 me,3427 and I2504 will deliver3860 him846 unto you?5213 And1161 they3588 covenanted2476 with him846 for thirty5144 pieces of silver.694

15 And he said to them, What are you willing to give me, and I will deliver him to you? And they promised him thirty pieces of silver.

16 And2532 from575 that time5119 he sought2212 opportunity2120 to2443 betray3860 him.846

16 And from that time he sought an opportunity to betray him.

17 On the first day of unleavened bread, the disciples came up to Jesus and said to him, Where do you wish that we may prepare the passover for you to eat?

18 And1161 he3588 said,2036 Go5217 into1519 the3588 city4172 to4314 such a man,1170 and2532 say2036 unto him,846 The3588 Master1320 saith,3004 My3450 time2540 is2076 at hand;1451 I will keep4160 the3588 passover3957 at4314 thy house4571 with3326 my3450 disciples.3101

18 And he said to them, Go into the city to a certain man, and say to him, Our Master says, My time has come, I will observe the passover with my disciples at your house.

19 And2532 the3588 disciples3101 did4160 as5613 Jesus2424 had appointed4929 them;846 and2532 they made ready2090 the3588 passover.3957

19 And his disciples did as Jesus had commanded them; and they prepared the passover.

20 Now1161 when the even3798 was come,1096 he sat down345 with3326 the3588 twelve.1427

20 And when it was evening, he was reclining with his twelve disciples.

21 And2532 as they846 did eat,2068 he said,2036 Verily281 I say3004 unto you,5213 that3754 one1520 of1537 you5216 shall betray3860 me.3165

21 And while they were eating he said, Truly I say to you, that one of you will betray me.

22 And2532 they were exceeding sorrowful,3076 4970 and began756 every one1538 of them846 to say3004 unto him,846 Lord,2962 3385 is1510 it I?1473

22 And they felt very sad, and began to say to him one by one, Why, is it I, my Lord?

23 And1161 he3588 answered611 and said,2036 He that dippeth1686 his hand5495 with3326 me1700 in1722 the3588 dish,5165 the same3778 shall betray3860 me.3165

23 And he answered and said, He who dips his hand with me in the dish, he will betray me.

24 The Son of man is going through, just as it is written concerning him; but woe to the man by whose hand the Son of man is betrayed! it would have been far better for that man never to have been born.

25 Then1161 Judas,2455 which betrayed3860 him,846 answered611 and said,2036 Master,4461 3385 is1510 it I?1473 He said3004 unto him,846 Thou4771 hast said.2036

25 Then Judas the traitor answered and said, Master, perhaps it is I? Jesus said to him, You say that.

26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread and blessed it, and he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and he said, Take, eat; this is my body.

27 And2532 he took2983 the3588 cup,4221 and2532 gave thanks,2168 and gave1325 it to them,846 saying,3004 Drink4095 ye all3956 of1537 it;846

27 Then he took the cup and gave thanks, and gave it to them and said, Take, drink of it, all of you.

28 For1063 this5124 is2076 my3450 blood129 of3588 the3588 new2537 testament,1242 which is shed1632 for4012 many4183 for1519 the remission859 of sins.266

28 This is my blood of the new covenant which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

29 But I say to you, from now on I shall not drink from this fruit of the vine, until the day when I drink it anew with you in the kingdom of God.

30 And2532 when they had sung a hymn,5214 they went out1831 into1519 the3588 mount3735 of Olives.1636

30 And they offered praise, and went out to the Mount of Olives.

31 Then Jesus said to them, All of you will deny me this night; for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of his flock will be scattered.

32 But1161 after I3165 am risen again,1453 I will go before4254 you5209 into1519 Galilee.1056

32 But after I am risen, I will be in Galilee before you.

33 1161 Peter4074 answered611 and said2036 unto him,846 Though1499 all3956 men shall be offended4624 because1722 of thee,4671 yet will I1473 never3763 be offended.4624

33 Peter answered and said to him, Even if every man should deny you, I will never deny you.

34 Jesus2424 said5346 unto him,846 Verily281 I say3004 unto thee,4671 That3754 1722 this5026 night,3571 before4250 the cock220 crow,5455 thou shalt deny533 me3165 thrice.5151

34 Jesus said to him, Truly I say to you, that in this very night, before the cock crows, you will deny me three times.

35 Peter4074 said3004 unto him,846 Though2579 I3165 should1163 die599 with4862 thee,4671 yet will I not3364 deny533 thee.4571 Likewise3668 also2532 said2036 all3956 the3588 disciples.3101

35 Peter said to him, Even if I must die with you, I will never deny you. All the disciples said likewise.

36 Then Jesus came with them to a place which is called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, Sit down here, while I go to pray.

37 And2532 he took with3880 him Peter4074 and2532 the3588 two1417 sons5207 of Zebedee,2199 and began756 to be sorrowful3076 and2532 very heavy.85

37 And he took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and he began to be sorrowful and oppressed.

38 Then5119 saith3004 he unto them,846 My3450 soul5590 is2076 exceeding sorrowful,4036 even unto2193 death: 2288 tarry3306 ye here,5602 and2532 watch1127 with3326 me.1700

38 He said to them, My soul is sorrowful even to death; wait for me here, and watch with me.

39 And he went a little further and fell on his face, and prayed saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; but let it be, not as I will, but as you.

40 Then he came to his disciples and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, So, you were not able to watch with me even for one hour?

41 Watch1127 and2532 pray,4336 that2443 ye enter1525 not3361 into1519 temptation: 3986 the3588 spirit4151 indeed3303 is willing,4289 but1161 the3588 flesh4561 is weak.772

41 Awake and pray, that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is ready, but the body is weak.

42 He went away again the second time and prayed and said, O my Father, if this cup cannot pass, and if I have to drink it, let it be according to your will.

43 And2532 he came2064 and found2147 them846 asleep2518 again:3825 for1063 their846 eyes3788 were2258 heavy.916

43 He came again and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.

44 And2532 he left863 them,846 and went away565 again,3825 and prayed4336 the1537 third time,5154 saying2036 the3588 same848 words.3056

44 And he left them and went away again and prayed the third time, and he said the same word.

45 Then he came to his disciples and said to them, Sleep from now on and get your rest; behold, the hour has come, and the Son of man will be delivered into the hands of sinners.

46 Rise,1453 let us be going: 71 behold,2400 he is at hand1448 that doth betray3860 me.3165

46 Arise, let us go; behold, he who is to deliver me has arrived.

47 While he was speaking, behold, Judas the traitor, one of the twelve, came and with him a large crowd with swords and staves, from the high priests and the elders of the people.

48 Now1161 he that betrayed3860 him846 gave1325 them846 a sign,4592 saying,3004 Whomsoever3739 302 I shall kiss,5368 that same846 is2076 he: hold him fast.2902 846

48 Now Judas the traitor had given them a sign, saying, He whom I kiss, it is he, arrest him.

49 And2532 forthwith2112 he came4334 to Jesus,2424 and said,2036 Hail,5463 master;4461 and2532 kissed2705 him.846

49 And immediately he came up to Jesus and said, Peace, Master; and he kissed him.

50 And1161 Jesus2424 said2036 unto him,846 Friend,2083 wherefore1909 3739 art thou come? Then3918 came4334 they, and laid1911 hands5495 on1909 Jesus,2424 and2532 took2902 him.846

50 Jesus said to him, Is it for this that you have come, my friend? Then they came near and laid hands on Jesus, and arrested him.

51 And behold, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew a sword, and struck it at the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.

52 Then5119 said3004 Jesus2424 unto him,846 Put up again654 thy4675 sword3162 into1519 his846 place: 5117 for1063 all3956 they that take2983 the sword3162 shall perish622 with1722 the sword.3162

52 Then Jesus said to him, Return the sword to its place; for all who take swords will die by swords.

53 2228 Thinkest1380 thou that3754 I cannot1410 3756 now737 pray3870 to my3450 Father,3962 and2532 he shall presently give3936 me3427 more4119 than2228 twelve1427 legions3003 of angels?32

53 Or do you think that I cannot ask of my Father, and he will now raise up for me more than twelve legions of angels?

54 But how4459 then3767 shall the3588 Scriptures1124 be fulfilled,4137 that3754 thus3779 it must1163 be?1096

54 How then could the scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?

55 In1722 that same1565 hour5610 said2036 Jesus2424 to the3588 multitudes,3793 Are ye come out1831 as5613 against1909 a thief3027 with3326 swords3162 and2532 staves3586 for to take4815 me?3165 I sat2516 daily2596 2250 with4314 you5209 teaching1321 in1722 the3588 temple,2411 and2532 ye laid no hold2902 3756 on me.3165

55 At that very hour Jesus said to the people, Have you come out with swords and staves to arrest me like a bandit? I sat with you every day, teaching in the temple, and you did not arrest me.

56 But1161 all3650 this5124 was done,1096 that2443 the3588 Scriptures1124 of the3588 prophets4396 might be fulfilled.4137 Then5119 all3956 the3588 disciples3101 forsook863 him,846 and fled.5343

56 But this has happened so that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples left him, and fled.

57 And1161 they that had laid hold2902 on Jesus2424 led him away520 to4314 Caiaphas2533 the3588 high priest,749 where3699 the3588 scribes1122 and2532 the3588 elders4245 were assembled.4863

57 And those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had assembled.

58 But1161 Peter4074 followed190 him846 afar off575 3113 unto2193 the3588 high priest's749 palace,833 and2532 went1525 in,2080 and sat2521 with3326 the3588 servants,5257 to see1492 the3588 end.5056

58 But Simon Peter followed him afar off, up to the courtyard of the high priest, and he went inside and sat with the soldiers, to see the end.

59 Now1161 the3588 chief priests,749 and2532 elders,4245 and2532 all3650 the3588 council,4892 sought2212 false witness5577 against2596 Jesus,2424 to3704 put him to death;2289 846

59 Now the high priests and the elders and the whole council were seeking witnesses against Jesus, so that they might put him to death.

60 But2532 found2147 none:3756 yea, though2532 many4183 false witnesses5575 came,4334 yet found2147 they none.3756 At the last1161 5305 came4334 two1417 false witnesses,5575

60 But they could not find any; then there came a great many false witnesses; but at the end two came forward,

61 And said,2036 this3778 fellow said,5346 I am able1410 to destroy2647 the3588 temple3485 of God,2316 and2532 to build3618 it846 in1223 three5140 days.2250

61 And said, This man said, I can tear down the temple of God, and build it in three days.

62 And2532 the3588 high priest749 arose,450 and said2036 unto him,846 Answerest611 thou nothing?3762 what5101 is it which these3778 witness against2649 thee?4675

62 And the high priest stood up and said to him, You are not answering anything. What is it that these men testify against you?

63 But1161 Jesus2424 held his peace.4623 And2532 the3588 high priest749 answered611 and said2036 unto him,846 I adjure1844 thee4571 by2596 the3588 living2198 God,2316 that2443 thou tell2036 us2254 whether1487 thou4771 be1488 the3588 Christ,5547 the3588 Son5207 of God.2316

63 But Jesus was silent. Then the high priest answered and said to him, I adjure you by the living God, to tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God?

64 Jesus2424 saith3004 unto him,846 Thou4771 hast said: 2036 nevertheless4133 I say3004 unto you,5213 Hereafter575 737 shall ye see3700 the3588 Son5207 of man444 sitting2521 on1537 the right hand1188 of power,1411 and2532 coming2064 in1909 the3588 clouds3507 of heaven.3772

64 Jesus said to him, You say that. But I say to you that from henceforth you will see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of the power, and coming upon the clouds of the sky.

65 The high priest then rent his clothes and said, Behold, he is blaspheming; why therefore do we need witnesses? behold, you have now heard his blasphemy.

66 What5101 think1380 ye?5213 1161 They3588 answered611 and said,2036 He is2076 guilty1777 of death.2288

66 What else do you want? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.

67 Then5119 did they spit1716 in1519 his846 face,4383 and2532 buffeted2852 him;846 and1161 others3588 smote him with the palms of their hands,4474

67 Then they spat in his face, and struck him on his head, and others beat him,

68 saying,3004 Prophesy4395 unto us,2254 thou Christ,5547 Who5101 is2076 he that smote3817 thee?4571

68 Saying, O Christ, prophesy to us; who smote you?

69 Now1161 Peter4074 sat2521 without1854 in1722 the3588 palace:833 and2532 a3391 damsel3814 came4334 unto him,846 saying,3004 Thou4771 also2532 wast2258 with3326 Jesus2424 of Galilee.1057

69 Now Peter sat outside in the courtyard; and a maidservant came up to him, and said to him, You also were with Jesus the Nazarene.

70 But1161 he3588 denied720 before1715 them all,3956 saying,3004 I know1492 not3756 what5101 thou sayest.3004

70 But he denied it before all of them, and said, I do not understand what you are saying.

71 And as he was going to the porch, another one saw him, and she said to them, This man was also there with Jesus the Nazarene.

72 And2532 again3825 he denied720 with3326 an oath,3727 I do not3756 know1492 the3588 man.444

72 Again he denied it with oaths, I do not know the man.

73 After a while, those who were standing came up, and said to Peter, Truly you also are one of them, for even your speech proves it.

74 Then5119 began756 he to curse2653 and2532 to swear,3660 saying, I know1492 not3756 the3588 man.444 And2532 immediately2112 the cock220 crew.5455

74 Then he began to curse and to swear, I do not know the man. At that very hour the cock crowed.

75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which he had said to him, Before the cock crows, you will deny me three times. And he went outside and wept bitterly.
