2 If we assay5254 to commune1697 with you, will you be grieved?3811 but who4310 can3201 withhold6113 himself from speaking?4405

3 Behold,2009 you have instructed3256 many,7227 and you have strengthened2388 the weak7504 hands.3027

4 Your words4405 have upheld6965 him that was falling,3782 and you have strengthened553 the feeble3766 knees.1290

5 But now6258 it is come935 on you, and you faint;3811 it touches5060 you, and you are troubled.926

6 Is not this your fear,3374 your confidence,3690 your hope,8615 and the uprightness8537 of your ways?1870

7 Remember,2142 I pray4994 you, who4310 ever perished,6 being innocent?5355 or where375 were the righteous6662 cut3582 off?

8 Even as I have seen,7200 they that plow2790 iniquity,205 and sow2232 wickedness,5999 reap7114 the same.

9 By the blast5397 of God433 they perish,6 and by the breath7307 of his nostrils639 are they consumed.3615

10 The roaring7581 of the lion,738 and the voice6963 of the fierce7826 lion,7826 and the teeth8127 of the young3715 lions,3715 are broken.5421

11 The old lion3918 perishes6 for lack1097 of prey,2964 and the stout lion's3833 whelps1121 are scattered6504 abroad.6504

18 Behold,2005 he put no3808 trust539 in his servants;5650 and his angels4397 he charged7760 with folly:8417

19 How637 much637 less in them that dwell7931 in houses1004 of clay,2563 whose834 foundation3247 is in the dust,6083 which are crushed1792 before6440 the moth?6211

20 They are destroyed3807 from morning1242 to evening:6153 they perish6 for ever5331 without any regarding7760 it.

21 Does not their excellency3499 which is in them go5265 away?5265 they die,4191 even without3808 wisdom.2451

2 «Если я осмелюсь тебе ответить, выдержишь ли ты? Но как же удержать слово?

3 Ты сам наставлял многих, рукам ослабевшим придавал силу.

4 Споткнувшегося слово твое поднимало, дрожащие колени ты укреплял.

5 А теперь пришли к тебе беды — и ты не выдержал, коснулось тебя несчастье — и ты впал в отчаяние.

6 Разве благоговение пред Богом — не твоя опора? Разве праведная жизнь — не твоя надежда?

7 Вспомни, прошу, разве погибает невиновный? Разве стирают праведного с лица земли?

8 Но вот что видел я: кто вспахивает зло и горе сеет — сам его и пожнет!

9 От дуновения Божьего сгинут они, ударом гнева Его будут сметены.

10 Умолкнет рев львиный и рык могучего зверя, и сокрушены будут зубы льва молодого.

11 Погибнет царь зверей без добычи, и детеныши львицы разбегутся.

12 Прокралось ко мне слово, ухо мое шепот услышало.

13 Среди раздумий о ночных видениях, когда глубокий сон одолевает людей,

14 объяли меня страх и трепет, дрожь сотрясла всё тело мое.

15 В лицо мне ветер дохнул, и волосы мои стали дыбом.

16 Некто встал предо мной и замер. Облика его не мог я различить — лишь образ некий пред глазами. И в тишине услышал я голос:

17 „Как человеку пред Богом оправдаться? Разве может кто быть чистым перед своим Творцом?

18 Он и слугам Своим не доверяет, и в ангелах находит изъяны,

19 тем более в жителях домов из глины, что стоят на прахе, и кого прихлопнуть проще моли.

20 С утра до самой ночи их истребляют, гибнут они и навеки всеми забыты.

21 Рвется нить их, и они умирают без всякой мудрости“.
