Chapter 14

1 Man120 that is born3205 of a woman802 is of few7116 days 3117and full7646 of trouble.7267

2 He comes3318 forth3318 like a flower,6731 and is cut5243 down: he flees1272 also as a shadow,6738 and continues5975 not.

3 And does you open6491 your eyes5869 on such2088 an one, and bring935 me into judgment4941 with you?

4 Who4310 can bring5414 a clean2889 thing out of an unclean?2931 not one.259

5 Seeing518 his days3117 are determined,2782 the number4557 of his months2320 are with you, you have appointed6213 his bounds2706 that he cannot3808 pass;5674

6 Turn8159 from him, that he may rest,2308 till5704 he shall accomplish,7521 as an hireling,7916 his day.3117

7 For there is hope8615 of a tree,6086 if it be cut3772 down, that it will sprout2498 again,5750 and that the tender3127 branch thereof will not cease.2308

8 Though518 the root8328 thereof wax old2204 in the earth,776 and the stock1503 thereof die4191 in the ground;6083

9 Yet through the scent7381 of water4325 it will bud,6524 and bring6213 forth6213 boughs7105 like3644 a plant.5194

10 But man1397 dies,4191 and wastes2522 away: yes, man120 gives1478 up the ghost,1478 and where346 is he?

11 As the waters4325 fail235 from the sea,3220 and the flood5104 decays2717 and dries3001 up:

12 So man376 lies7901 down,7901 and rises6965 not: till5704 the heavens8064 be no1115 more, they shall not awake,6974 nor3808 be raised5782 out of their sleep.8142

13 O that you would hide6845 me in the grave,7585 that you would keep me secret,5641 until5704 your wrath639 be past,7725 that you would appoint7896 me a set2706 time, and remember2142 me!

14 If518 a man1397 die,4191 shall he live2421 again? all3605 the days3117 of my appointed6635 time6635 will I wait,3176 till5704 my change2487 come.935

15 You shall call,7121 and I will answer6030 you: you will have a desire3700 to the work4639 of your hands.3027

16 For now6258 you number5608 my steps:6806 do you not watch8104 over5921 my sin?2403

17 My transgression6588 is sealed2856 up in a bag,6872 and you sew2950 up my iniquity.5771

18 And surely199 the mountains2022 falling5307 comes5034 to nothing,5034 and the rock6697 is removed6275 out of his place.4725

19 The waters4325 wear7833 the stones:68 you wash7857 away the things which grow5599 out of the dust6083 of the earth;776 and you destroy6 the hope8615 of man.582

20 You prevail8630 for ever5331 against him, and he passes:1980 you change8138 his countenance,6440 and send7971 him away.

21 His sons1121 come to honor,3513 and he knows3045 it not; and they are brought6819 low,6819 but he perceives995 it not of them.

22 But his flesh1320 on him shall have pain,3510 and his soul5315 within5921 him shall mourn.56

3 人旣如是、爾何必過於追求、鞫其是非哉。

4 未有源濁而流清者。

5 人之生也、其數有定、其限難越、爾使之然、

6 姑舍我、俾得息肩、樂終天年、猶傭之喜於入息。

7 林木旣斫、萌櫱可望、生機難遏。

8 其植於地也、根雖老、幹雖槁、

9 潤以雨露、芽萌株發、可儗新栽。

10 人則異是、始則血衰、旣而氣絕、歸於無有。

11 如潦之易竭、如澮之立涸、

12 屈而不伸、寢而不寤、必也彼蒼窮盡之日、斯人有復生之時。

13 願上帝藏我於墓寢、否則處我於隱僻、以俟災消禍弭、又不然、定以何日、然後釋我。

14 人旣死亡、豈能復生、我生苦境、必有終年、乃逝世。

15 爾問我答、我爲爾所造、爾當眷顧。

16 乃勘我行事、察我愆尤、

17 錄我罪弗忘、增我過維倍。

18 山頹不起、磐移不囘。

19 霤穿石則漸靡、浪淘沙則不見、人而絕望亦若是。

20 爾殘人生命、使之逝世。變人容色、使之絕氣。

21 子孫之榮辱、俱不及知。

22 惟其身痛楚、其心殷憂而已。
