第21章

1 住南地的迦南人亞拉得王，聽說以色列［Israel］從探子之路［way of the spies］來；他［he］就和以色列［Israel］爭戰，帶走他們幾個人作囚［and took some of them prisoners］。

2 以色列［Israel］向耶和華發願說：「你若將這民交付我手，我就把他們的城邑盡行毀滅。」

3 耶和華聽允了以色列的禱告［hearkened to the voice of Israel］，把迦南人交付他們；他們就把迦南人和迦南人的城邑盡行毀滅。他給那地方起名叫［he called the name of the place］何珥瑪。

4 他們從何珥山起行，往紅海那條路走，要繞過以東地。百姓因這路難行，心中甚是煩躁，

5 就妄論［spake against］神和摩西說：「你們為甚麼把我們從埃及領出來、使我們死在曠野呢？這裏沒有糧，沒有水，我們的心厭惡這淡薄的食物。」

6 於是耶和華使火蛇進入百姓中間，蛇就咬他們。以色列人中死了許多。

7 百姓到摩西那裏，說：「我們妄論［spoken against］耶和華和你，有罪了。求你禱告耶和華，叫這些蛇離開我們。」於是摩西為百姓禱告。

8 耶和華對摩西說：「你製造一條火蛇，掛在杆子上；凡被咬的，一望這蛇，就必得活。」

9 摩西便製造一條銅蛇，掛在杆子上；凡被蛇咬的，一望這銅蛇就活了。

10 以色列人起行，安營在阿伯。

11 又從阿伯起行，安營在以耶．亞巴琳，與摩押相對的曠野，向日出之地。

12 從那裏起行，安營在撒烈谷。

13 從那裏起行，安營在亞嫩河那邊。這亞嫩河是在曠野，從亞摩利的境界流出來的；原來亞嫩河是摩押的邊界，在摩押和亞摩利人搭界的地方。

14 所以耶和華的戰記上說：「他所行的事在紅海、亞嫩河［What he did in the Red sea, and in the brooks of Arnon］、

15 並向亞珥城眾溪的溪水［stream of the brooks］，是靠近摩押的境界。」

16 以色列人從那裏到了［from thence they went to］比珥；從前耶和華曉諭［spake unto］摩西說：「招聚百姓，我好給他們水喝」，說的就是這井。

17 當時，以色列［Israel］唱歌說：井啊，湧上水來；你們要向這井歌唱。

18 這井是首領和民中的貴族［nobles］，按著設立律法者所指示的［by the direction of the lawgiver］、用杖所挖所掘的。以色列人從曠野往瑪他拿去，

19 從瑪他拿到拿哈列，從拿哈列到巴末，

20 從巴末到了摩押地的谷，又到那望向耶示門［looketh toward Jeshimon］之毗斯迦的山頂。

21 以色列［Israel］差遣使者去見亞摩利人的王西宏，說：

22 「求你容我們從你的地經過。我們不走田間和葡萄園，也不喝井裏的水，只走王的大道［king's high way］，不偏左右，直到過了你的境界。」

23 西宏不容以色列［Israel］從他的境界經過；西宏乃［but Sihon］招聚他的眾民出到曠野；要攻擊以色列［Israel］；他便［he］到了雅雜，與以色列［Israel］爭戰。

24 以色列［Israel］用刀刃［edge］殺了他，得了他的地，從亞嫩河到雅博河，直到亞捫人的境界；因為亞捫人的境界多有堅壘。

25 以色列［Israel］奪取這一切的城邑；以色列［Israel］也住亞摩利人的城邑，就是希實本與希實本的一切鄉村。

26 這希實本是亞摩利王西宏的京城；西宏曾與摩押的先王爭戰，從他手中奪取了全地，直到亞嫩河。

27 所以那些論俗語［speak in proverbs］的說：你們來到希實本；願西宏的城被修造，被建立。

2 And Israel3478 vowed5087 a vow5088 unto the LORD,3068 and said,559 If518 thou wilt indeed deliver5414 5414 853 this2088 people5971 into my hand,3027 then I will utterly destroy2763 853 their cities.5892

3 And the LORD3068 hearkened8085 to the voice6963 of Israel,3478 and delivered up5414 853 the Canaanites;3669 and they utterly destroyed2763 them and their cities:5892 and he called7121 the name8034 of the place4725 Hormah.2767

4 And they journeyed5265 from mount2022 Hor4480 2023 by the way1870 of the Red5488 sea,3220 to compass5437 853 the land776 of Edom:123 and the soul5315 of the people5971 was much discouraged7114 because of the way.1870

5 And the people5971 spoke1696 against God,430 and against Moses,4872 Wherefore4100 have ye brought us up5927 out of Egypt4480 4714 to die4191 in the wilderness?4057 for3588 there is no369 bread,3899 neither369 is there any water;4325 and our soul5315 loatheth6973 this light7052 bread.3899

6 And the LORD3068 sent7971 853 fiery8314 serpents5175 among the people,5971 and they bit5391 853 the people;5971 and much7227 people5971 of Israel4480 3478 died.4191

7 Therefore the people5971 came935 to413 Moses,4872 and said,559 We have sinned,2398 for3588 we have spoken1696 against the LORD,3068 and against thee; pray6419 unto413 the LORD,3068 that he take away5493 853 the serpents5175 from4480 5921 us. And Moses4872 prayed6419 for1157 the people.5971

8 And the LORD3068 said559 unto413 Moses,4872 Make6213 thee a fiery serpent,8314 and set7760 it upon5921 a pole:5251 and it shall come to pass,1961 that every one3605 that is bitten,5391 when he looketh upon7200 it, shall live.2425

9 And Moses4872 made6213 a serpent5175 of brass,5178 and put7760 it upon5921 a pole,5251 and it came to pass,1961 that if518 a serpent5175 had bitten5391 853 any man,376 when he beheld5027 413 the serpent5175 of brass,5178 he lived.2425

10 And the children1121 of Israel3478 set forward,5265 and pitched2583 in Oboth.88

14 Wherefore5921 3651 it is said559 in the book5612 of the wars4421 of the LORD,3068 853 What he did2052 in the Red sea,5492 and in the brooks5158 of Arnon,769

15 And at the stream793 of the brooks5158 that834 goeth down5186 to the dwelling7675 of Ar,6144 and lieth8172 upon the border1366 of Moab.4124

16 And from thence4480 8033 they went to Beer:876 that1931 is the well875 whereof834 the LORD3068 spoke559 unto Moses,4872 Gather the people together,622 853 5971 and I will give5414 them water.4325

17 Then227 Israel3478 sang7891 853 this2063 song,7892 Spring up,5927 O well;875 sing6030 ye unto it:

18 The princes8269 digged2658 the well,875 the nobles5081 of the people5971 digged3738 it, by the direction of the lawgiver,2710 with their staves.4938 And from the wilderness4480 4057 they went to Mattanah: 4980

19 And from Mattanah4480 4980 to Nahaliel:5160 and from Nahaliel4480 5160 to Bamoth: 1120

20 And from Bamoth4480 1120 in the valley,1516 that834 is in the country7704 of Moab,4124 to the top7218 of Pisgah,6449 which looketh8259 toward5921 6440 Jeshimon.3452

21 And Israel3478 sent7971 messengers4397 unto413 Sihon5511 king4428 of the Amorites,567 saying,559

22 Let me pass5674 through thy land:776 we will not3808 turn5186 into the fields,7704 or into the vineyards;3754 we will not3808 drink8354 of the waters4325 of the well:875 but we will go along1980 by the king's4428 high way,1870 until5704 834 we be past5674 thy borders.1366

23 And Sihon5511 would not3808 suffer5414 853 Israel3478 to pass5674 through his border:1366 but Sihon5511 gathered all his people together,622 853 3605 5971 and went out3318 against7125 Israel3478 into the wilderness:4057 and he came935 to Jahaz,3096 and fought3898 against Israel.3478

24 And Israel3478 smote5221 him with the edge6310 of the sword,2719 and possessed3423 853 his land776 from Arnon4480 769 unto5704 Jabbok,2999 even unto5704 the children1121 of Ammon:5983 for3588 the border1366 of the children1121 of Ammon5983 was strong.5794

25 And Israel3478 took3947 853 all3605 these428 cities:5892 and Israel3478 dwelt3427 in all3605 the cities5892 of the Amorites,567 in Heshbon,2809 and in all3605 the villages1323 thereof.

26 For3588 Heshbon2809 was the city5892 of Sihon5511 the king4428 of the Amorites,567 who1931 had fought3898 against the former7223 king4428 of Moab,4124 and taken3947 853 all3605 his land776 out of his hand,4480 3027 even unto5704 Arnon.769

27 Wherefore5921 3651 they that speak in proverbs4911 say,559 Come935 into Heshbon,2809 let the city5892 of Sihon5511 be built1129 and prepared: 3559

28 For3588 there is a fire784 gone out3318 of Heshbon,4480 2809 a flame3852 from the city4480 7151 of Sihon:5511 it hath consumed398 Ar6144 of Moab,4124 and the lords1167 of the high places1116 of Arnon.769

29 Woe188 to thee, Moab!4124 thou art undone,6 O people5971 of Chemosh:3645 he hath given5414 his sons1121 that escaped,6412 and his daughters,1323 into captivity7628 unto Sihon5511 king4428 of the Amorites.567

30 We have shot3384 at them; Heshbon2809 is perished6 even unto5704 Dibon,1769 and we have laid them waste8074 even unto5704 Nophah,5302 which834 reacheth unto5704 Medeba.4311

31 Thus Israel3478 dwelt3427 in the land776 of the Amorites.567

32 And Moses4872 sent7971 to spy out7270 853 Jaazer,3270 and they took3920 the villages1323 thereof, and drove out3423 853 the Amorites567 that834 were there.8033

33 And they turned6437 and went up5927 by the way1870 of Bashan:1316 and Og5747 the king4428 of Bashan1316 went out3318 against7125 them, he,1931 and all3605 his people,5971 to the battle4421 at Edrei.154

34 And the LORD3068 said559 unto413 Moses,4872 Fear3372 him not:408 for3588 I have delivered5414 him into thy hand,3027 and all3605 his people,5971 and his land;776 and thou shalt do6213 to him as834 thou didst6213 unto Sihon5511 king4428 of the Amorites,567 which834 dwelt3427 at Heshbon.2809

35 So they smote5221 him, and his sons,1121 and all3605 his people,5971 until5704 there was none1115 left7604 him alive:8300 and they possessed3423 853 his land.776

14 所以耶和華的戰記上說：「他所行的事在紅海、亞嫩河［What he did in the Red sea, and in the brooks of Arnon］、
