Exodus

Chapter 32

1 And when the people5971 saw7200 that3588 Moses4872 delayed954 to come down3381 out of4480 the mount,2022 the people5971 gathered themselves together6950 unto5921 Aaron,175 and said559 unto413 him, Up,6965 make6213 us gods,430 which834 shall go1980 before6440 us; for3588 as for this2088 Moses,4872 the man376 that834 brought us up5927 out of the land4480 776 of Egypt,4714 we know3045 not3808 what4100 is become1961 of him.

2 And Aaron175 said559 unto413 them, Break off6561 the golden2091 earrings,5141 which834 are in the ears241 of your wives,802 of your sons,1121 and of your daughters,1323 and bring935 them unto413 me.

3 And all3605 the people5971 broke off6561 853 the golden2091 earrings5141 which834 were in their ears,241 and brought935 them unto413 Aaron.175

4 And he received3947 them at their hand,4480 3027 and fashioned6696 it with a graving tool,2747 after he had made6213 it a molten4541 calf:5695 and they said,559 These428 be thy gods,430 O Israel,3478 which834 brought thee up5927 out of the land4480 776 of Egypt.4714

5 And when Aaron175 saw7200 it, he built1129 an altar4196 before6440 it; and Aaron175 made proclamation,7121 and said,559 Tomorrow4279 is a feast2282 to the LORD.3068

6 And they rose up early7925 on the morrow,4480 4283 and offered5927 burnt offerings,5930 and brought5066 peace offerings;8002 and the people5971 sat down3427 to eat398 and to drink,8354 and rose up6965 to play.6711

7 And the LORD3068 said1696 unto413 Moses,4872 Go,1980 get thee down;3381 for3588 thy people,5971 which834 thou broughtest5927 out of the land4480 776 of Egypt,4714 have corrupted7843 themselves:

8 They have turned aside5493 quickly4118 out of4480 the way1870 which834 I commanded6680 them: they have made6213 them a molten4541 calf,5695 and have worshiped7812 it, and have sacrificed2076 thereunto, and said,559 These428 be thy gods,430 O Israel,3478 which834 have brought thee up5927 out of the land4480 776 of Egypt.4714

9 And the LORD3068 said559 unto413 Moses,4872 I have seen7200 853 this2088 people,5971 and, behold,2009 it1931 is a stiffnecked7186 6203 people: 5971

10 Now6258 therefore let me alone,5117 that my wrath639 may wax hot2734 against them, and that I may consume3615 them: and I will make6213 of thee a great1419 nation.1471

11 And Moses4872 besought2470 853 the LORD3068 his God,430 and said,559 LORD,3068 why4100 doth thy wrath639 wax hot2734 against thy people,5971 which834 thou hast brought forth3318 out of the land4480 776 of Egypt4714 with great1419 power,3581 and with a mighty2389 hand?3027

12 Wherefore4100 should the Egyptians4714 speak,559 and say,559 For mischief7451 did he bring them out,3318 to slay2026 them in the mountains,2022 and to consume3615 them from4480 5921 the face6440 of the earth?127 Turn7725 from thy fierce wrath,4480 2740 639 and repent5162 of5921 this evil7451 against thy people.5971

13 Remember2142 Abraham,85 Isaac,3327 and Israel,3478 thy servants,5650 to whom834 thou sworest7650 by thine own self, and saidst1696 unto413 them, I will multiply7235 853 your seed2233 as the stars3556 of heaven,8064 and all3605 this2063 land776 that834 I have spoken559 of will I give5414 unto your seed,2233 and they shall inherit5157 it forever.5769

14 And the LORD3068 repented5162 of5921 the evil7451 which834 he thought1696 to do6213 unto his people.5971

15 And Moses4872 turned,6437 and went down3381 from4480 the mount,2022 and the two8147 tables3871 of the testimony5715 were in his hand:3027 the tables3871 were written3789 on both4480 8147 their sides;5676 on the one side4480 2088 and on the other4480 2088 were they1992 written.3789

16 And the tables3871 were the work4639 of God,430 and the writing4385 was the writing4385 of God,430 graven2801 upon5921 the tables.3871

17 And when Joshua3091 heard8085 853 the noise6963 of the people5971 as they shouted,7452 he said559 unto413 Moses,4872 There is a noise6963 of war4421 in the camp.4264

18 And he said,559 It is not369 the voice6963 of them that shout6030 for mastery,1369 neither369 is it the voice6963 of them that cry6030 for being overcome:2476 but the noise6963 of them that sing6031 do I595 hear.8085

19 And it came to pass,1961 as soon as834 he came nigh7126 unto413 the camp,4264 that he saw7200 853 the calf,5695 and the dancing:4246 and Moses'4872 anger639 waxed hot,2734 and he cast7993 853 the tables3871 out of his hands,4480 3027 and broke7665 them beneath8478 the mount.2022

20 And he took3947 853 the calf5695 which834 they had made,6213 and burnt8313 it in the fire,784 and ground2912 it to5704 powder,834 1854 and strewed2219 it upon5921 6440 the water,4325 and made853 the children1121 of Israel3478 drink8248 of it.

21 And Moses4872 said559 unto413 Aaron,175 What4100 did6213 this2088 people5971 unto thee, that3588 thou hast brought935 so great1419 a sin2401 upon5921 them?

22 And Aaron175 said,559 Let not408 the anger639 of my lord113 wax hot:2734 thou859 knowest3045 853 the people,5971 that3588 they1931 are set on mischief.7451

23 For they said559 unto me, Make6213 us gods,430 which834 shall go1980 before6440 us: for3588 as for this2088 Moses,4872 the man376 that834 brought us up5927 out of the land4480 776 of Egypt,4714 we know3045 not3808 what4100 is become1961 of him.

24 And I said559 unto them, Whosoever4310 hath any gold,2091 let them break it off.6561 So they gave5414 it me: then I cast7993 it into the fire,784 and there came out3318 this2088 calf.5695

25 And when Moses4872 saw7200 that3588 853 the people5971 were naked;6544 (for3588 Aaron175 had made them naked6544 unto their shame8103 among their enemies: )6965

26 Then Moses4872 stood5975 in the gate8179 of the camp,4264 and said,559 Who4310 is on the LORD's3068 side? let him come unto413 me. And all3605 the sons1121 of Levi3878 gathered themselves together622 unto413 him.

27 And he said559 unto them, Thus3541 saith559 the LORD3068 God430 of Israel,3478 Put7760 every man376 his sword2719 by5921 his side,3409 and go in5674 and out7725 from gate4480 8179 to gate8179 throughout the camp,4264 and slay2026 every man376 853 his brother,251 and every man376 853 his companion,7453 and every man376 853 his neighbor.7138

28 And the children1121 of Levi3878 did6213 according to the word1697 of Moses:4872 and there fell5307 of4480 the people5971 that1931 day3117 about three7969 thousand505 men.376

29 For Moses4872 had said,559 Consecrate4390 3027 yourselves today3117 to the LORD,3068 even3588 every man376 upon his son,1121 and upon his brother;251 that he may bestow5414 upon5921 you a blessing1293 this day.3117

30 And it came to pass1961 on the morrow,4480 4283 that Moses4872 said559 unto413 the people,5971 Ye859 have sinned2398 a great1419 sin:2401 and now6258 I will go up5927 unto413 the LORD;3068 peradventure194 I shall make an atonement3722 for1157 your sin.2403

31 And Moses4872 returned7725 unto413 the LORD,3068 and said,559 Oh,577 this2088 people5971 have sinned2398 a great1419 sin,2401 and have made6213 them gods430 of gold.2091

32 Yet now,6258 if518 thou wilt forgive5375 their sin;2403 and if518 not,369 blot4229 me, I pray thee,4994 out of thy book4480 5612 which834 thou hast written.3789

33 And the LORD3068 said559 unto413 Moses,4872 Whosoever4310 834 hath sinned2398 against me, him will I blot out4229 of my book.4480 5612

34 Therefore now6258 go,1980 lead5148 853 the people5971 unto413 the place of which834 I have spoken1696 unto thee: behold,2009 mine Angel4397 shall go1980 before6440 thee: nevertheless in the day3117 when I visit6485 I will visit6485 their sin2403 upon5921 them.

35 And the LORD3068 plagued5062 853 the people,5971 because5921 834 they made6213 853 the calf,5695 which834 Aaron175 made.6213

Exodus

Chapter 32

1 WHEN the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, they gathered themselves together unto Aaron and said to him, Arise, make us gods that they may go before us; as for this man Moses who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.

2 And Aaron said to them, Remove the golden earrings which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them to me.

3 So all the people removed the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aaron.

4 And he received them, and drew a design, and made it a molten calf; and they said, This is your god, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.

5 And Aaron was afraid, and he built an altar before it; then Aaron made a proclamation, and said, Tomorrow is a feast to the LORD.

6 And they rose up early on the morrow and offered burnt offerings and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play and to quarrel.

7 And the LORD said to Moses, Go down, get away from here; for your people whom you have brought out of the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves;

8 They have turned aside quickly from the way which I commanded them; they have made for themselves a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed to it, and said, This is your god, O Israel, who has brought you out of the land of Egypt.

9 And the LORD said to Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold it is a stiff-necked people;

10 Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may be kindled against them and that I may destroy them; and I will make of you a great nation.

11 But Moses prayed before the LORD his God and said, Not so, O LORD, let not thy wrath kindle against thy people whom thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand.

12 Why should the Egyptians say, It was for their injury he did bring them out to slay them in the mountains and to consume them from the face of the earth? Rest from thy fierce anger and be reconciled concerning the evil deed of thy people.

13 Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou didst swear by thine own self and didst say to them, I will multiply your descendants as the stars in heaven, and all the land that I have spoken of I will give to thy descendants, and they shall inherit it for ever.

14 And the LORD was reconciled concerning the evil which he had purposed to do to his people.

15 And Moses turned and went down from the mountain, and the two stone tablets of the testimony were in his hand, the tablets that were written on both sides; on the one side and on the other were they written.

16 The tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, engraved upon the tablets.

17 And when Joshua heard the noise of the people fighting, he said to Moses, There is a noise of war in the camp.

18 Moses said to him, It is not the sound of the cry of mighty men, neither is it the sound of the cry of weak men; but it is the sound of sin that I hear.

19 And it came to pass as soon as they came near to the camp, he saw the calf and the cymbals; and Moses' anger raged, and he threw the tablets out of his hand and broke them at the foot of the mountain.

20 And he took the calf which they had made, and burned it in the fire, and filed it with a file until it was ground into dust, and he scattered it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.

21 And Moses said to Aaron, What has this people done to you that you have brought so great a sin upon them?

22 And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my lord rage; you yourself know this people, that they are bad.

23 For they said to me, Make us gods that they shall go before us; as for this Moses who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.

24 And I said to them, Whosoever has any gold bring it to me. So they brought it to me; then I cast it into the fire, and it became this calf.

25 And when Moses saw that the people had sinned; (for Aaron had caused them to sin, and to leave a bad name behind them);

26 Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp and said, Who is on the LORD'S side? Let him come to me. And all the Levites gathered themselves together to him.

27 And Moses said to them, Thus says the LORD God of Israel: Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from door to door throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, his friend, and his neighbor.

28 And the Levites did according to the word of Moses; and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.

29 And Moses said to them, Strengthen yourselves today before the LORD, every man with his son and with his brother; for a blessing shall come upon you today.

30 ¶And it came to pass on the next day, Moses said to the people, You have sinned this great sin; and now I will go up to the LORD; perhaps he may forgive your transgressions.

31 So Moses returned to the LORD and said, I beseech thee, O LORD God, truly this people have sinned a great sin and have made for themselves gods of gold.

32 But now, if thou wilt, forgive their sins; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.

33 And the LORD said to Moses, Whosoever has sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.

34 Therefore now go, lead the people to the place where I tell you; behold, my angel shall go before you; nevertheless in the day when I punish I will visit their sins upon them.

35 And the LORD smote the people because they worshipped the calf which Aaron made.

1 WHEN the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, they gathered themselves together unto Aaron and said to him, Arise, make us gods that they may go before us; as for this man Moses who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.

2 And Aaron175 said559 unto413 them, Break off6561 the golden2091 earrings,5141 which834 are in the ears241 of your wives,802 of your sons,1121 and of your daughters,1323 and bring935 them unto413 me.

2 And Aaron said to them, Remove the golden earrings which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them to me.

3 And all3605 the people5971 broke off6561 853 the golden2091 earrings5141 which834 were in their ears,241 and brought935 them unto413 Aaron.175

3 So all the people removed the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aaron.

4 And he received them, and drew a design, and made it a molten calf; and they said, This is your god, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.

5 And when Aaron175 saw7200 it, he built1129 an altar4196 before6440 it; and Aaron175 made proclamation,7121 and said,559 Tomorrow4279 is a feast2282 to the LORD.3068

5 And Aaron was afraid, and he built an altar before it; then Aaron made a proclamation, and said, Tomorrow is a feast to the LORD.

6 And they rose up early7925 on the morrow,4480 4283 and offered5927 burnt offerings,5930 and brought5066 peace offerings;8002 and the people5971 sat down3427 to eat398 and to drink,8354 and rose up6965 to play.6711

6 And they rose up early on the morrow and offered burnt offerings and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play and to quarrel.

7 And the LORD3068 said1696 unto413 Moses,4872 Go,1980 get thee down;3381 for3588 thy people,5971 which834 thou broughtest5927 out of the land4480 776 of Egypt,4714 have corrupted7843 themselves:

7 And the LORD said to Moses, Go down, get away from here; for your people whom you have brought out of the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves;

8 They have turned aside quickly from the way which I commanded them; they have made for themselves a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed to it, and said, This is your god, O Israel, who has brought you out of the land of Egypt.

9 And the LORD3068 said559 unto413 Moses,4872 I have seen7200 853 this2088 people,5971 and, behold,2009 it1931 is a stiffnecked7186 6203 people: 5971

9 And the LORD said to Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold it is a stiff-necked people;

10 Now6258 therefore let me alone,5117 that my wrath639 may wax hot2734 against them, and that I may consume3615 them: and I will make6213 of thee a great1419 nation.1471

10 Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may be kindled against them and that I may destroy them; and I will make of you a great nation.

11 But Moses prayed before the LORD his God and said, Not so, O LORD, let not thy wrath kindle against thy people whom thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand.

12 Why should the Egyptians say, It was for their injury he did bring them out to slay them in the mountains and to consume them from the face of the earth? Rest from thy fierce anger and be reconciled concerning the evil deed of thy people.

13 Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou didst swear by thine own self and didst say to them, I will multiply your descendants as the stars in heaven, and all the land that I have spoken of I will give to thy descendants, and they shall inherit it for ever.

14 And the LORD3068 repented5162 of5921 the evil7451 which834 he thought1696 to do6213 unto his people.5971

14 And the LORD was reconciled concerning the evil which he had purposed to do to his people.

15 And Moses turned and went down from the mountain, and the two stone tablets of the testimony were in his hand, the tablets that were written on both sides; on the one side and on the other were they written.

16 And the tables3871 were the work4639 of God,430 and the writing4385 was the writing4385 of God,430 graven2801 upon5921 the tables.3871

16 The tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, engraved upon the tablets.

17 And when Joshua3091 heard8085 853 the noise6963 of the people5971 as they shouted,7452 he said559 unto413 Moses,4872 There is a noise6963 of war4421 in the camp.4264

17 And when Joshua heard the noise of the people fighting, he said to Moses, There is a noise of war in the camp.

18 And he said,559 It is not369 the voice6963 of them that shout6030 for mastery,1369 neither369 is it the voice6963 of them that cry6030 for being overcome:2476 but the noise6963 of them that sing6031 do I595 hear.8085

18 Moses said to him, It is not the sound of the cry of mighty men, neither is it the sound of the cry of weak men; but it is the sound of sin that I hear.

19 And it came to pass as soon as they came near to the camp, he saw the calf and the cymbals; and Moses' anger raged, and he threw the tablets out of his hand and broke them at the foot of the mountain.

20 And he took the calf which they had made, and burned it in the fire, and filed it with a file until it was ground into dust, and he scattered it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.

21 And Moses4872 said559 unto413 Aaron,175 What4100 did6213 this2088 people5971 unto thee, that3588 thou hast brought935 so great1419 a sin2401 upon5921 them?

21 And Moses said to Aaron, What has this people done to you that you have brought so great a sin upon them?

22 And Aaron175 said,559 Let not408 the anger639 of my lord113 wax hot:2734 thou859 knowest3045 853 the people,5971 that3588 they1931 are set on mischief.7451

22 And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my lord rage; you yourself know this people, that they are bad.

23 For they said to me, Make us gods that they shall go before us; as for this Moses who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.

24 And I said559 unto them, Whosoever4310 hath any gold,2091 let them break it off.6561 So they gave5414 it me: then I cast7993 it into the fire,784 and there came out3318 this2088 calf.5695

24 And I said to them, Whosoever has any gold bring it to me. So they brought it to me; then I cast it into the fire, and it became this calf.

25 And when Moses4872 saw7200 that3588 853 the people5971 were naked;6544 (for3588 Aaron175 had made them naked6544 unto their shame8103 among their enemies: )6965

25 And when Moses saw that the people had sinned; (for Aaron had caused them to sin, and to leave a bad name behind them);

26 Then Moses4872 stood5975 in the gate8179 of the camp,4264 and said,559 Who4310 is on the LORD's3068 side? let him come unto413 me. And all3605 the sons1121 of Levi3878 gathered themselves together622 unto413 him.

26 Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp and said, Who is on the LORD'S side? Let him come to me. And all the Levites gathered themselves together to him.

27 And Moses said to them, Thus says the LORD God of Israel: Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from door to door throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, his friend, and his neighbor.

28 And the children1121 of Levi3878 did6213 according to the word1697 of Moses:4872 and there fell5307 of4480 the people5971 that1931 day3117 about three7969 thousand505 men.376

28 And the Levites did according to the word of Moses; and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.

29 For Moses4872 had said,559 Consecrate4390 3027 yourselves today3117 to the LORD,3068 even3588 every man376 upon his son,1121 and upon his brother;251 that he may bestow5414 upon5921 you a blessing1293 this day.3117

29 And Moses said to them, Strengthen yourselves today before the LORD, every man with his son and with his brother; for a blessing shall come upon you today.

30 ¶And it came to pass on the next day, Moses said to the people, You have sinned this great sin; and now I will go up to the LORD; perhaps he may forgive your transgressions.

31 And Moses4872 returned7725 unto413 the LORD,3068 and said,559 Oh,577 this2088 people5971 have sinned2398 a great1419 sin,2401 and have made6213 them gods430 of gold.2091

31 So Moses returned to the LORD and said, I beseech thee, O LORD God, truly this people have sinned a great sin and have made for themselves gods of gold.

32 Yet now,6258 if518 thou wilt forgive5375 their sin;2403 and if518 not,369 blot4229 me, I pray thee,4994 out of thy book4480 5612 which834 thou hast written.3789

32 But now, if thou wilt, forgive their sins; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.

33 And the LORD3068 said559 unto413 Moses,4872 Whosoever4310 834 hath sinned2398 against me, him will I blot out4229 of my book.4480 5612

33 And the LORD said to Moses, Whosoever has sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.

34 Therefore now go, lead the people to the place where I tell you; behold, my angel shall go before you; nevertheless in the day when I punish I will visit their sins upon them.

35 And the LORD3068 plagued5062 853 the people,5971 because5921 834 they made6213 853 the calf,5695 which834 Aaron175 made.6213

35 And the LORD smote the people because they worshipped the calf which Aaron made.
