1 And it came1961 to pass, when all3605 the kings4428 which834 were on this side5676 Jordan,3383 in the hills,2022 and in the valleys,8219 and in all3605 the coasts2348 of the great1419 sea3220 over413 4136 against4136 Lebanon,3844 the Hittite,2850 and the Amorite,567 the Canaanite,3669 the Perizzite,6522 the Hivite,2340 and the Jebusite,2983 heard8085 thereof;

2 sammelten6908 sie sich einträchtiglich zuhauf3162, daß6310 sie wider Josua3091 und wider Israel3478 stritten3898.

2 That they gathered6908 themselves together,3162 to fight3898 with Joshua3091 and with Israel,3478 with one259 accord.6310

3 Aber die Bürger zu8085 Gibeon1391, da sie3427 höreten, was Josua3091 mit Jericho3405 und Ai5857 getan hatte6213, erdachten sie eine List;
|
3 And when the inhabitants3427 of Gibeon1391 heard8085 what853 834 Joshua3091 had done6213 to Jericho3405 and to Ai,5857

4 gingen3212 hin und6213 schickten eine Botschaft und nahmen3947 alte1087 Säcke8242 auf ihre Esel2543
|
4 They did6213 work6213 wilily,6195 and went3212 and made as if they had been ambassadors,6735 and took3947 old1087 sacks8242 on their asses,2543 and wine3196 bottles,4997 old,1087 and rent,1234 and bound6887 up;

5 und alte1087 zerrissene, geflickte2921 Weinschläuche und alte1087 geflickte Schuhe5275 an ihre Füße7272 und zogen alte Kleider8008 an, und altes Brot3899, das sie6718 mit sich nahmen, war hart3001 und schimmlig5350.

5 And old1087 shoes5275 and clouted2921 on their feet,7272 and old1087 garments8008 on them; and all3605 the bread3899 of their provision6718 was dry3001 and moldy.5350

6 Und376 gingen3212 zu Josua3091 ins Lager4264 gen Gilgal1537 und sprachen559 zu ihm und zum ganzen Israel3478: Wir kommen935 aus3772 fernen7350 Landen776, so machet nun einen Bund1285 mit uns.

6 And they went3212 to Joshua3091 to the camp4264 at Gilgal,1537 and said559 to him, and to the men376 of Israel,3478 We be come935 from a far7350 country:776 now6258 therefore make3772 you a league1285 with us.

7 Da sprach559 das ganze Israel3478 zu dem Heviter2340: Vielleicht194 möchtest3427 du unter7130 uns wohnend werden; wie könnte ich dann einen376 Bund1285 mit dir machen3772?

7 And the men376 of Israel3478 said559 to the Hivites,2340 Peradventure194 you dwell3427 among7130 us; and how349 shall we make3772 a league1285 with you?

8 Sie aber sprachen559 zu Josua3091: Wir sind deine Knechte5650. Josua3091 sprach559 zu ihnen: Wer seid ihr und von wannen kommt935 ihr?
|
8 And they said559 to Joshua,3091 We are your servants.5650 And Joshua3091 said559 to them, Who4310 are you? and from from where370 come935 you?
|
|
9 Sie sprachen559: Deine Knechte5650 sind935 aus sehr3966 fernen7350 Landen776 kommen um des Namens8034 willen des HErrn3068, deines Gottes430; denn wir haben sein Gerücht8089 gehöret und alles, was er in Ägypten4714 getan6213 hat8085,

9 And they said559 to him, From a very3966 far7350 country776 your servants5650 are come935 because of the name8034 of the LORD3068 your God:430 for we have heard8085 the fame8089 of him, and all3605 that he did6213 in Egypt,4714

10 und alles, was er den zweien Königen4428 der Amoriter567 jenseit5676 des Jordans3383 getan6213 hat, Sihon5511, dem Könige4428 zu Hesbon2809, und Og5747, dem Könige4428 zu Basan1316, der zu Astharoth6252 wohnete.

10 And all3605 that he did6213 to the two8147 kings4428 of the Amorites,567 that were beyond5676 Jordan,3383 to Sihon5511 king4428 of Heshbon,2809 and to Og5747 king4428 of Bashan,1316 which834 was at Ashtaroth.6252

11 Darum sprachen559 unsere Ältesten2205 und559 alle Einwohner3427 unsers Landes776: Nehmet Speise6720 mit euch3027 auf3947 die Reise1870 und559 gehet hin3212 ihnen entgegen7125 und sprechet zu ihnen: Wir sind eure Knechte5650. So machet nun einen Bund1285 mit uns.

11 Why our elders2205 and all3605 the inhabitants3427 of our country776 spoke559 to us, saying,559 Take3947 victuals6720 with you for the journey,1870 and go3212 to meet7125 them, and say559 to them, We are your servants:5650 therefore now6258 make3772 you a league1285 with us.

12 Dies unser Brot3899, das wir2525 aus3318 unsern Häusern1004 zu unserer Speise nahmen6679, war noch3117 frisch, da wir auszogen zu euch3212; nun aber, siehe, es ist hart3001 und schimmlig5350;

12 This2088 our bread3899 we took hot2525 for our provision6679 out of our houses1004 on the day3117 we came3318 forth3318 to go3212 to you; but now,6258 behold,2009 it is dry,3001 and it is moldy:5350

13 und diese Weinschläuche4997 fülleten wir neu2319, und siehe, sie sind4390 zerrissen1234; und diese unsere Kleider8008 und Schuhe5275 sind alt1086 worden über der sehr3966 langen7230 Reise1870.

13 And these428 bottles4997 of wine,3196 which834 we filled,4390 were new;2319 and, behold,2009 they be rent:1234 and these428 our garments8008 and our shoes5275 are become1086 old1086 by reason of the very3966 long7230 journey.1870

14 Da nahmen3947 die Hauptleute582 ihre Speise6718 an und fragten7592 den Mund6310 des HErrn3068 nicht.
|
14 And the men582 took3947 of their victuals,6718 and asked7592 not counsel at the mouth6310 of the LORD.3068
|
|
15 Und Josua3091 machte6213 Frieden7965 mit ihnen5712 und richtete3772 einen Bund1285 mit ihnen auf, daß sie leben2421 bleiben sollten. Und die Obersten5387 der Gemeine schwuren7650 ihnen.
|
15 And Joshua3091 made6213 peace7965 with them, and made6213 a league1285 with them, to let them live:2421 and the princes5387 of the congregation5712 swore7650 to them.
|
|
16 Aber über7097 drei7969 Tage3117, nachdem310 sie mit ihnen einen Bund1285 gemacht3772 hatten3427, kam8085 es vor sie, daß jene nahe bei7138 ihnen wären und würden unter7130 ihnen wohnen.
|
16 And it came1961 to pass at the end7097 of three7969 days3117 after310 they had made3772 a league1285 with them, that they heard8085 that they were their neighbors,7138 and that they dwelled3427 among7130 them.

17 Denn da die Kinder1121 Israel3478 fortzogen, kamen935 sie5265 des dritten7992 Tages3117 zu ihren Städten5892, die hießen Gibeon1391, Kaphira3716, Beeroth881 und5892 Kiriath-Jearim7157.
|
17 And the children1121 of Israel3478 journeyed,5265 and came935 to their cities5892 on the third7992 day.3117 Now their cities5892 were Gibeon,1391 and Chephirah,3716 and Beeroth,881 and Kirjathjearim.7157

|
18 Und1121 schlugen5221 sie nicht, darum daß ihnen5712 die Obersten5387 der Gemeine geschworen7650 hatten bei dem HErrn3068, dem GOtt430 Israels3478. Da aber3885 die ganze Gemeine wider die Obersten5387 murrete,

18 And the children1121 of Israel3478 smote5221 them not, because3588 the princes5387 of the congregation5712 had sworn7650 to them by the LORD3068 God430 of Israel.3478 And all3605 the congregation5712 murmured3885 against5921 the princes.5387

19 sprachen559 alle Obersten5387 der ganzen5712 Gemeine: Wir haben7650 ihnen geschworen bei dem HErrn3068, dem GOtt430 Israels3478; darum können3201 wir sie nicht antasten5060.
|
19 But all3605 the princes5387 said559 to all3605 the congregation,5712 We have sworn7650 to them by the LORD3068 God430 of Israel:3478 now6258 therefore we may3201 not touch5060 them.

|
20 Aber das wollen wir tun: Lasset2421 sie leben, daß nicht ein Zorn7110 über uns komme um des Eides7621 willen, den wir ihnen getan6213 haben7650.
|
20 This2063 we will do6213 to them; we will even let them live,2421 lest3808 wrath7110 be on us, because5921 of the oath7621 which834 we swore7650 to them.

|
21 Und6086 die4325 Obersten5387 sprachen1696 zu ihnen: Lasset2421 sie leben, daß sie Holzhauer2404 und Wasserträger7579 seien der ganzen5712 Gemeine, wie ihnen die Obersten5387 gesagt559 haben.
|
21 And the princes5387 said559 to them, Let them live;2421 but let them be hewers2404 of wood6086 and drawers7579 of water4325 to all3605 the congregation;5712 as the princes5387 had promised1696 them.
|
|
22 Da rief7121 ihnen Josua3091 und redete1696 mit ihnen und sprach559: Warum habt ihr3427 uns betrogen7411 und gesagt559, ihr seid sehr3966 ferne7350 von uns, so ihr doch unter7130 uns wohnet?
|
22 And Joshua3091 called7121 for them, and he spoke1696 to them, saying,559 Why4100 have you beguiled7411 us, saying,559 We are very3966 far7350 from you; when you dwell3427 among7130 us?
|
|
23 Darum sollt ihr verflucht779 sein, daß unter euch nicht aufhören3772 Knechte5650, die Holz6086 hauen2404 und Wasser4325 tragen7579 zum Hause1004 meines Gottes430.
|
23 Now6258 therefore you are cursed,779 and there shall none3808 of you be freed3772 from being slaves,5650 and hewers2404 of wood6086 and drawers7579 of water4325 for the house1004 of my God.430
|
|
24 Sie5046 antworteten6030 Josua3091 und sprachen559: Es ist deinen Knechten5650 angesagt5046, daß der HErr3068, dein GOtt430, Mose4872, seinem Knechte5650, geboten6680 habe, daß er euch5315 das1697 ganze Land776 geben5414 und vor6440 euch her alle Einwohner3427 des Landes776 vertilgen8045 wolle. Da fürchteten3372 wir unsers Lebens vor6440 euch sehr3966 und haben solches getan6213.

24 And they answered6030 Joshua,3091 and said,559 Because3588 it was certainly told5046 your servants,5650 how that the LORD3068 your God430 commanded6680 his servant5650 Moses4872 to give5414 you all3605 the land,776 and to destroy8045 all3605 the inhabitants3427 of the land776 from before6440 you, therefore we were sore3966 afraid3372 of our lives5315 because6440 of you, and have done6213 this2088 thing.1697

25 Nun aber, siehe2009, wir sind in deinen Händen3027; was dich5869 gut2896 und recht3477 dünket, uns zu tun6213, das tue6213.
|
25 And now,6258 behold,2005 we are in your hand:3027 as it seems5869 good2896 and right3477 to you to do6213 to us, do.6213

|
26 Und er tat6213 ihnen also und errettete sie2026 von der Kinder1121 Israel3478 Hand3027, daß sie sie nicht5337 erwürgeten.
|
26 And so3651 did6213 he to them, and delivered5337 them out of the hand3027 of the children1121 of Israel,3478 that they slew2026 them not.
|
|
27 Also machte5414 sie Josua3091 desselben Tages3117 zu Holzhauern2404 und6086 Wasserträgern7579 der Gemeine und zum Altar4196 des HErrn3068 bis auf diesen Tag3117 an dem Ort4725, den er erwählen977 würde.
|
27 And Joshua3091 made5414 them that day3117 hewers2404 of wood6086 and drawers7579 of water4325 for the congregation,5712 and for the altar4196 of the LORD,3068 even to this2088 day,3117 in the place4725 which834 he should choose.977
