第4章

1 我又轉念,察看[considered]日光之下所行的一切欺壓;看哪,受欺壓的流淚,且無人安慰;欺壓他們的有勢力,也無人安慰他們。

2 因此,我讚歎那早已死的死人,勝過那還活著的活人。

3 並且我以為那未曾生的,就是未見過日光之下所行之[that is done]惡事的,比這兩等人更強。

4 我又察見[considered]人為一切的勞苦[travail]和各樣正當[right]的工作就被鄰居嫉妒。這也是虛空,使心靈憂傷[vexation of spirit]

5 愚昧人抱著手,吃自己的肉。

6 滿了一把,得享安靜,勝過[Better]滿了兩把,勞苦靈累[travail and vexation of spirit]

7 我又轉念,見日光之下有一件虛空的事:

8 有人孤單無二,無子無兄,竟勞碌不息,眼目也不以錢財為足。他也不[neither]說:「我勞勞碌碌,刻苦自己,不享福樂,到底是為誰呢?」這也是虛空,是極重的勞苦。

9 兩個人總比一個人好,因為二人勞碌同得美好的果效。

10 若是跌倒,這人可以扶起他的同伴;若是孤身跌倒,沒有別人扶起他來,這人就有禍了。

11 再者,二人同睡就都暖和,一人獨睡怎能暖和呢?

12 有人攻勝孤身一人,若有二人便能敵擋他;三股合成的繩子不容易折斷。

13 貧窮而有智慧的孩童[child]勝過年老不肯納諫的愚昧王。

14 這人是從監牢中出來作王,在他國中,生來原是貧窮的。

15察看[considered]日光之下一切行動的活人都隨從那第二個,就是起來代替老王的孩童[child]

16 他所治理的眾人就是他的百姓,多得無數;在他後來的人尚且不喜悅他。這真是虛空,也使心靈憂傷[vexation of spirit]

3 Yes, better2896 is he than both8147 they, which834 has not yet5728 been,1961 who834 has not seen7200 the evil7451 work4639 that is done6213 under8478 the sun.8121

4 Again, I considered7200 all3605 travail,5999 and every3605 right3788 work,4639 that for this1931 a man376 is envied7068 of his neighbor.7453 This2088 is also1571 vanity1892 and vexation7469 of spirit.7307

5 The fool3684 folds2263 his hands3027 together, and eats398 his own flesh.1320

12 And if518 one259 prevail8630 against him, two8147 shall withstand5975 him; and a threefold8027 cord2339 is not quickly4120 broken.5423

13 Better2896 is a poor4542 and a wise2450 child3206 than an old2205 and foolish3684 king,4428 who834 will3045 no3808 more5750 be admonished.2094

14 For out of prison1004 612 he comes3318 to reign;4427 whereas3588 also1571 he that is born3205 in his kingdom4438 becomes poor.7326
