Chapter 7

1 WHEN he had finished all of these words, in the hearing of the people, Jesus entered Capernaum.

2 Now the servant of a centurion was seriously sick, one who was very dear to him; and he was near death.

3 And when he heard about Jesus, he sent to him Jewish elders, and besought him to come and heal his servant.

4 When they came to Jesus, they begged him earnestly, saying, He is worthy to have this done for him;

5 For he loves our people, and has even built us a synagogue.

6 Jesus went with them. And when he was not far from the house, the centurion sent some of his friends to him, and said, My Lord, do not trouble yourself; for I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof;

7 That is why I was not worthy to come to you; but just say a word and my boy will be healed.

8 For I am also a man in government service, and there are soldiers under my command; and I say to this one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my servant, Do this, and he does it.

9 When Jesus heard these things, he was amazed at him, and he turned and said to the people who followed him, I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such faith as this.

10 So those who were sent returned to the house, and found the servant who was sick, healed.

11 And it came to pass on the next day, he was going to a city called Nain; and his disciples were with him, and many people.

12 And when they came near the gate of the city, he saw a dead man being carried out, who was the only son of his mother, and his mother was a widow; and many people of the city were with her.

13 When Jesus saw her, he had compassion on her, and said to her, Weep not.

14 Then he went and touched the bier, and those who carried it stood still. And he said, Young man, I tell you, Arise.

15 And the dead man sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother.

16 And all men were seized with fear; and they praised God, saying, A great prophet is risen among us; and, God has visited his people.

17 And this word about him went out through all Judaea, and through the country around them.

18 And John's disciples told him all these things.

19 So John called two of his disciples, and sent them to Jesus, and said, Are you the one who is to come? or are we to expect another one?

20 And they came to Jesus and said to him, John the Baptist has sent us to you, saying, Are you the one who is to come? or are we to expect another one?

21 In that very hour, he healed a great many of their diseases and plagues, and of evil spirits; and he gave sight to many blind men.

22 So Jesus answered and said to them, Go and tell John everything that you have seen and heard; that the blind see, and the lame walk, and the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead rise up, and the poor are given hope.

23 And blessed is he, who does not stumble on account of me.

24 When John's disciples had gone, Jesus began to speak to the people concerning John, What did you go out to the wilderness to see? A reed which is shaken by the wind?

25 If not so, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? Behold, those who wear fine clothes and live delicately are in kings' houses.

26 And if not so, what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and much more than a prophet.

27 This is he of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before your face, to prepare the way before you.

28 I say to you that there is no prophet among those who are born of women, who is greater than John the Baptist; and yet even the least person in the kingdom of God is greater than he.

29 And all the people who heard it, even the publicans, justified themselves before God, for they were baptized with the baptism of John.

30 But the Pharisees and the scribes suppressed the will of God in themselves, because they were not baptized by him.

31 To whom, therefore, shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?

32 They are like boys who sit in the street, and call to their friends and say, We have sung to you but you did not dance; and we have wailed to you and you did not weep.

33 For John the Baptist came, neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and you say, He is insane.

34 The Son of man came, eating and drinking; and you say, Behold, a glutton and a winebibber, and a friend of publicans and sinners!

35 And yet wisdom is justified by all its works.

36 Then one of the Pharisees came and asked him to eat with him. And he entered the house of that Pharisee and reclined as a guest.

37 Now there was in that city a woman who was a sinner; and when she knew that he was a guest in the Pharisee's house, she took an alabaster cruse of perfume,

38 And she stood behind him at his feet, weeping, and she began to wet his feet with her tears, and to wipe them with the hair of her head, and she kissed his feet, and anointed them with perfume.

39 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he reasoned in himself and said, If this man were a prophet, he would have known who she was and her reputation; for the woman who has touched him is a sinner.

40 Jesus answered and said to him, Simon, I have something to tell you. He said to him, Say it, teacher. Jesus said to him,

41 There were two men who were debtors to a creditor; one of them owed him five hundred pence, and the other one fifty pence.

42 And because they had nothing to pay, he forgave them both. Which one of them will love him more?

43 Simon answered and said, I think the one to whom he forgave more. Jesus said to him, You have judged truly.

44 And he turned to the woman, and said to Simon, Do you see this woman? I entered your house, you did not give me even water for my feet; but she has wet my feet with her tears, and wiped them with her hair.

45 You did not kiss me; but she, since she entered, has not ceased to kiss my feet.

46 You did not anoint my head with oil; but she has anointed my feet with perfume.

47 For this reason, I say to you, Her many sins are forgiven, because she loved much; but he to whom little is forgiven, loves little.

48 And he said to the woman, Your sins are forgiven.

49 Then the guests began to say within themselves, Who is this man, who forgives even sins?

50 Jesus said to the woman, Your faith has saved you; go in peace.

2 Там у одного сотника был болен и лежал при смерти слуга. Сотник очень дорожил этим своим слугой,

3 и когда он услышал об Иисусе, то послал к Нему иудейских старейшин с просьбой прийти и исцелить его слугу.

4 Старейшины пришли к Иисусу и стали горячо просить Его: — Этот человек заслуживает Твоей помощи,

5 потому что он любит наш народ, и это он построил нам синагогу.

6 Иисус пошел с ними. Он уже подходил к дому, когда сотник послал к Нему друзей передать: — Господи, не утруждай Себя, так как я не достоин, чтобы Ты вошел под крышу моего дома.

7 Я и себя не счел достойным прийти к Тебе. Но скажи лишь слово, и мой слуга выздоровеет.

8 Ведь и сам я подчиняюсь приказам, и у меня в подчинении тоже есть воины. Я говорю одному: «Ступай!» — и он идет, другому: «Ко мне!» — и тот приходит. Слуге моему говорю: «Сделай это!» — и он делает.

9 Иисус, услышав это, удивился и, обернувшись к толпе, шедшей за Ним, сказал: — Говорю вам, что даже в Израиле Я не встречал такой сильной веры.

10 Когда посланные возвратились в дом, они нашли слугу здоровым.

11 Вскоре после этого Иисус пошел в город, называемый Наин, с Ним были Его ученики и много других людей.

12 Когда Он подходил к воротам города, из них выносили умершего, единственного сына у матери, а она была вдовой. Вместе с ней из города выходила большая толпа.

13 Когда Господь увидел эту женщину, Он сжалился над ней. — Не плачь, — сказал Он ей.

14 Затем Он подошел и прикоснулся к носилкам. Те, кто нес их, остановились, и Иисус сказал: — Юноша, говорю тебе: встань!

15 Умерший сел и начал говорить, и Иисус передал его матери.

16 Всех, кто там был, охватил страх, и люди прославляли Бога: — Великий пророк появился среди нас! Бог посетил Свой народ!

17 И молва об Иисусе распространилась по всей Иудее и в окружающих ее землях.

18 Ученики Иоанна рассказали ему обо всех этих событиях. И тогда Иоанн позвал к себе двоих из них

19 и послал их к Господу спросить: — Ты ли Тот, Кто должен прийти, или нам ожидать кого-то другого?

20 Они пришли к Иисусу и сказали: — Иоанн Креститель послал нас к Тебе спросить: Ты ли Тот, Кто должен прийти, или нам ожидать кого-то другого?

21 Иисус как раз в это время исцелил множество людей от болезней, недугов, от одержимости злыми духами и многим слепым даровал зрение.

22 И Он ответил посланным: — Пойдите и расскажите Иоанну о том, что вы увидели и услышали: слепые прозревают, хромые ходят, прокаженные очищаются, глухие слышат, мертвые воскресают и бедным возвещается Радостная Весть.

23 Блажен тот, кто не усомнится во Мне.

24 Когда посланцы Иоанна ушли, Иисус начал говорить народу об Иоанне: — Что вы ходили смотреть в пустыню? Тростник, колеблемый ветром?

25 Тогда что же вы ходили смотреть? Человека, одетого в роскошные одежды? Нет, те, кто одевается в дорогую одежду и живет в роскоши, находятся в царских дворцах.

26 Тогда что же вы ходили смотреть? Пророка? Да, и говорю вам, что больше, чем пророка.

27 Он тот, о ком написано: «Вот, Я посылаю перед Тобой Моего вестника, который приготовит перед Тобой Твой путь».

28 Говорю вам, среди всех рожденных женщинами нет более великого, чем Иоанн. Но наименьший в Божьем Царстве — больше его.

29 (И весь народ, и даже сборщики налогов, услышав слова Иисуса, признали Божий путь правым, потому что они приняли крещение Иоанна.

30 Фарисеи же и учители Закона, отказавшись принять крещение от него, отвергли Божью волю.)

31 — С кем тогда Мне сравнить людей этого поколения? — продолжал Иисус. — На кого они похожи?

32 Они как дети, которые сидят на площади и кричат друг другу: «Мы играли вам на свирели, а вы не плясали; мы пели вам похоронные песни, а вы не плакали».

33 Смотрите, вот пришел Иоанн Креститель, не ест хлеба и не пьет вина, и вы говорите: «В нем демон».

34 Пришел Сын Человеческий, ест и пьет, и вы говорите: «Вот обжора и пьяница, друг сборщиков налогов и грешников».

35 Но мудрость оправдана всеми детьми ее.

36 Один из фарисеев пригласил Иисуса к себе на обед. Иисус пришел к нему в дом и возлег у стола.

37 В это время одна женщина из этого города, которая была известна как грешница, узнав, что Иисус обедает в доме фарисея, принесла туда алебастровый кувшин, в котором было очень дорогое ароматическое масло.

38 Женщина встала сзади у ног Иисуса и, плача, обливала Его ноги слезами. Она стала вытирать Ему ноги своими волосами, целовала их и натирала ароматическим маслом.

39 Когда фарисей, пригласивший Иисуса, увидел это, он подумал: «Если бы Этот Человек действительно был пророком, то Он бы знал, что женщина, которая к Нему прикасается, — грешница».

40 Тогда Иисус сказал ему: — Симон, Я хочу тебе что-то сказать. — Говори, Учитель, — ответил тот.

41 — Два человека были должны одному и тому же заимодавцу, — начал Иисус. — Один должен был пятьсот динариев, а другой — пятьдесят.

42 И тому, и другому было нечем вернуть долг, и кредитор простил долг им обоим. Кто из них, по-твоему, будет больше любить его?

43 Симон ответил: — Я думаю, тот, кому был прощен больший долг. — Ты правильно рассудил, — сказал Иисус.

44 И, повернувшись к женщине, сказал Симону: — Ты видишь эту женщину? Я пришел в твой дом, и ты не дал Мне даже воды, чтобы вымыть ноги, а она омыла Мои ноги слезами и вытерла своими волосами!

45 Ты даже не поцеловал Меня при встрече, а эта женщина, с тех пор как Я вошел в дом, не перестает целовать Мне ноги.

46 Ты не помазал Мне голову маслом, а она драгоценным ароматическим маслом помазала Мне ноги.

47 Поэтому Я говорю тебе: ей прощены все грехи, из-за этого она и возлюбила так сильно. А тот, кому мало прощено, и любит мало.

48 Потом Иисус сказал женщине: — Твои грехи прощены.

49 Но другие гости, возлежащие за столом, начали переговариваться: — Кто Он такой, что даже грехи прощает?

50 Иисус же сказал женщине: — Твоя вера спасла тебя, иди с миром.

3 And when he heard about Jesus, he sent to him Jewish elders, and besought him to come and heal his servant.	3 и когда он услышал об Иисусе, то послал к Нему иудейских старейшин с просьбой прийти и исцелить его слугу.
4 When they came to Jesus, they begged him earnestly, saying, He is worthy to have this done for him;	4 Старейшины пришли к Иисусу и стали горячо просить Его: — Этот человек заслуживает Твоей помощи,
5 For he loves our people, and has even built us a synagogue.	5 потому что он любит наш народ, и это он построил нам синагогу.
6 Jesus went with them. And when he was not far from the house, the centurion sent some of his friends to him, and said, My Lord, do not trouble yourself; for I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof;	6 Иисус пошел с ними. 9 When Jesus heard these things, he was amazed at him, and he turned and said to the people who followed him, I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such faith as this.	9 Иисус, услышав это, удивился и, обернувшись к толпе, шедшей за Ним, сказал: — Говорю вам, что даже в Израиле Я не встречал такой сильной веры.

11 And it came to pass on the next day, he was going to a city called Nain; and his disciples were with him, and many people.	11 Вскоре после этого Иисус пошел в город, называемый Наин, с Ним были Его ученики и много других людей.

18 And John's disciples told him all these things.	18 Ученики Иоанна рассказали ему обо всех этих событиях. И тогда Иоанн позвал к себе двоих из них

20 And they came to Jesus and said to him, John the Baptist has sent us to you, saying, Are you the one who is to come? or are we to expect another one?	20 Они пришли к Иисусу и сказали: — Иоанн Креститель послал нас к Тебе спросить: Ты ли Тот, Кто должен прийти, или нам ожидать кого-то другого?
21 In that very hour, he healed a great many of their diseases and plagues, and of evil spirits; and he gave sight to many blind men.	21 Иисус как раз в это время исцелил множество людей от болезней, недугов, от одержимости злыми духами и многим слепым даровал зрение.

23 And blessed is he, who does not stumble on account of me.	23 Блажен тот, кто не усомнится во Мне.
24 When John's disciples had gone, Jesus began to speak to the people concerning John, What did you go out to the wilderness to see? 28 I say to you that there is no prophet among those who are born of women, who is greater than John the Baptist; and yet even the least person in the kingdom of God is greater than he.	28 Говорю вам, среди всех рожденных женщинами нет более великого, чем Иоанн. Но наименьший в Божьем Царстве — больше его.
29 And all the people who heard it, even the publicans, justified themselves before God, for they were baptized with the baptism of John.	29 (И весь народ, и даже сборщики налогов, услышав слова Иисуса, признали Божий путь правым, потому что они приняли крещение Иоанна.
30 But the Pharisees and the scribes suppressed the will of God in themselves, because they were not baptized by him.	30 Фарисеи же и учители Закона, отказавшись принять крещение от него, отвергли Божью волю.)
31 To whom, therefore, shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?	31 — С кем тогда Мне сравнить людей этого поколения? — продолжал Иисус. — На кого они похожи?
32 They are like boys who sit in the street, and call to their friends and say, We have sung to you but you did not dance; and we have wailed to you and you did not weep.	32 Они как дети, которые сидят на площади и кричат друг другу: «Мы играли вам на свирели, а вы не плясали; мы пели вам похоронные песни, а вы не плакали».
33 For John the Baptist came, neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and you say, He is insane.	33 Смотрите, вот пришел Иоанн Креститель, не ест хлеба и не пьет вина, и вы говорите: «В нем демон».
34 The Son of man came, eating and drinking; and you say, Behold, a glutton and a winebibber, and a friend of publicans and sinners!	34 Пришел Сын Человеческий, ест и пьет, и вы говорите: «Вот обжора и пьяница, друг сборщиков налогов и грешников».
35 And yet wisdom is justified by all its works.	35 Но мудрость оправдана всеми детьми ее.
36 Then one of the Pharisees came and asked him to eat with him. And he entered the house of that Pharisee and reclined as a guest.	36 Один из фарисеев пригласил Иисуса к себе на обед. Иисус пришел к нему в дом и возлег у стола.
37 Now there was in that city a woman who was a sinner; and when she knew that he was a guest in the Pharisee's house, she took an alabaster cruse of perfume,	37 В это время одна женщина из этого города, которая была известна как грешница, узнав, что Иисус обедает в доме фарисея, принесла туда алебастровый кувшин, в котором было очень дорогое ароматическое масло.
38 And she stood behind him at his feet, weeping, and she began to wet his feet with her tears, and to wipe them with the hair of her head, and she kissed his feet, and anointed them with perfume.	38 Женщина встала сзади у ног Иисуса и, плача, обливала Его ноги слезами. Она стала вытирать Ему ноги своими волосами, целовала их и натирала ароматическим маслом.
39 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he reasoned in himself and said, If this man were a prophet, he would have known who she was and her reputation; for the woman who has touched him is a sinner.	39 Когда фарисей, пригласивший Иисуса, увидел это, он подумал: «Если бы Этот Человек действительно был пророком, то Он бы знал, что женщина, которая к Нему прикасается, — грешница».
40 Jesus answered and said to him, Simon, I have something to tell you. He said to him, Say it, teacher. Jesus said to him,	40 Тогда Иисус сказал ему: — Симон, Я хочу тебе что-то сказать. — Говори, Учитель, — ответил тот.

44 And he turned to the woman, and said to Simon, Do you see this woman? 48 And he said to the woman, Your sins are forgiven.	48 Потом Иисус сказал женщине: — Твои грехи прощены.
49 Then the guests began to say within themselves, Who is this man, who forgives even sins?	49 Но другие гости, возлежащие за столом, начали переговариваться: — Кто Он такой, что даже грехи прощает?
50 Jesus said to the woman, Your faith has saved you; go in peace.	50 Иисус же сказал женщине: — Твоя вера спасла тебя, иди с миром.
