9 And2532 call2564 no3361 man your5216 father3962 upon1909 the3588 earth: 1093 for1063 one1520 is2076 your5216 Father,3962 which3588 is in1722 heaven.3772

10 Neither3366 be ye called2564 masters: 2519 for1063 one1520 is2076 your5216 Master,2519 even Christ.5547

11 But1161 he that is greatest3187 among you5216 shall be2071 your5216 servant.1249

12 And1161 whosoever3748 shall exalt5312 himself1438 shall be abased;5013 and2532 he3748 that shall humble5013 himself1438 shall be exalted.5312

13 But1161 woe3759 unto you,5213 scribes1122 and2532 Pharisees,5330 hypocrites!5273 for3754 ye shut up2808 the3588 kingdom932 of heaven3772 against1715 men: 444 for1063 ye5210 neither3756 go in1525 yourselves, neither3761 suffer863 ye them that are entering1525 to go in.1525

14 1161 Woe3759 unto you,5213 scribes1122 and2532 Pharisees,5330 hypocrites!5273 for3754 ye devour2719 widows'5503 houses,3614 and2532 for a pretence4392 make long prayer: 4336 3117 therefore1223 5124 ye shall receive2983 the greater4056 damnation.2917

15 Woe3759 unto you,5213 scribes1122 and2532 Pharisees,5330 hypocrites!5273 for3754 ye compass4013 sea2281 and2532 land3584 to make4160 one1520 proselyte,4339 and2532 when3752 he is made,1096 ye make4160 him846 twofold more1362 the child5207 of hell1067 than yourselves.5216

16 Woe3759 unto you,5213 ye blind5185 guides,3595 which say,3004 Whosoever3739 302 shall swear3660 by1722 the3588 temple,3485 it is2076 nothing;3762 but1161 whosoever3739 302 shall swear3660 by1722 the3588 gold5557 of the3588 temple,3485 he is a debtor!3784

17 Ye fools3474 and2532 blind: 5185 for1063 whether5101 is2076 greater,3187 the3588 gold,5557 or2228 the3588 temple3485 that sanctifieth37 the3588 gold?5557

18 And,2532 Whosoever3739 1437 shall swear3660 by1722 the3588 altar,2379 it is2076 nothing;3762 but1161 whosoever3739 302 sweareth3660 by1722 the3588 gift1435 that3588 is upon1883 it,846 he is guilty.3784

19 Ye fools3474 and2532 blind: 5185 for1063 whether5101 is greater,3187 the3588 gift,1435 or2228 the3588 altar2379 that sanctifieth37 the3588 gift1435

20 Whoso therefore shall swear3660 3767 by1722 the3588 altar,2379 sweareth3660 by1722 it,846 and2532 by1722 all things3956 thereon.1883 846

21 And whoso shall swear3660 by1722 the3588 temple,3485 sweareth3660 by1722 it,846 and2532 by1722 him that dwelleth therein.2730 846

22 And2532 he that shall swear3660 by1722 heaven,3772 sweareth3660 by1722 the3588 throne2362 of God,2316 and2532 by1722 him that sitteth2521 thereon.1883 846

23 Woe3759 unto you,5213 scribes1122 and2532 Pharisees,5330 hypocrites!5273 for1063 ye pay tithe586 of mint2238 and2532 anise432 and2532 cummin,2951 and2532 have omitted863 the3588 weightier926 matters of the3588 law,3551 judgment,2920 2532 mercy,1656 and2532 faith: 4102 these5023 ought1163 ye to have done,4160 and not3361 to leave863 the other2548 undone.863

24 Ye blind5185 guides,3595 which strain1368 at a gnat,2971 and1161 swallow2666 a camel.2574

25 Woe3759 unto you,5213 scribes1122 and2532 Pharisees,5330 hypocrites!5273 for3754 ye make clean2511 the3588 outside1855 of the3588 cup4221 and2532 of the3588 platter,3953 but1161 within2081 they are full1073 of1537 extortion724 and2532 excess.192

26 Thou blind5185 Pharisee,5330 cleanse2511 first4412 that3588 which is within1787 the3588 cup4221 and2532 platter,3953 that2443 the3588 outside1622 of them846 may be1096 clean2513 also.2532

27 Woe3759 unto you,5213 scribes1122 and2532 Pharisees,5330 hypocrites!5273 for3754 ye are like unto3945 whited2867 sepulchers,5028 which3748 indeed3303 appear5316 beautiful5611 outward,1855 but1161 are within full1073 2081 of dead3498 men's bones,3747 and2532 of all3956 uncleanness.167

28 Even so3779 ye5210 also2532 outwardly1855 3303 appear5316 righteous1342 unto men,444 but1161 within2081 ye are2075 full3324 of hypocrisy5272 and2532 iniquity.458

29 Woe3759 unto you,5213 scribes1122 and2532 Pharisees,5330 hypocrites!5273 because3754 ye build3618 the3588 tombs5028 of the3588 prophets,4396 and2532 garnish2885 the3588 sepulchers3419 of the3588 righteous,1342

30 And2532 say,3004 If1487 we had been2258 in1722 the3588 days2250 of our2257 fathers,3962 we would not3756 have been2258 302 partakers2844 with them846 in1722 the3588 blood129 of the3588 prophets.4396

31 Wherefore5620 ye be witnesses3140 unto yourselves,1438 that3754 ye are2075 the children5207 of them which killed5407 the3588 prophets.4396

32 Fill ye up4137 5210 then2532 the3588 measure3358 of your5216 fathers.3962

33 Ye serpents,3789 ye generation1081 of vipers,2191 how4459 can ye escape5343 575 the3588 damnation2920 of hell?1067

34 Wherefore,1223 5124 behold,2400 I1473 send649 unto4314 you5209 prophets,4396 and2532 wise men,4680 and2532 scribes: 1122 and2532 some of1537 them846 ye shall kill615 and2532 crucify;4717 and2532 some of1537 them846 shall ye scourge3146 in1722 your5216 synagogues,4864 and2532 persecute1377 them from575 city4172 to1519 city: 4172

35 That3704 upon1909 you5209 may come2064 all3956 the righteous1342 blood129 shed1632 upon1909 the3588 earth,1093 from575 the3588 blood129 of righteous1342 Abel6 unto2193 the3588 blood129 of Zechariah2197 son5207 of Barachias,914 whom3739 ye slew5407 between3342 the3588 temple3485 and2532 the3588 altar.2379

36 Verily281 I say3004 unto you,5213 All3956 these things5023 shall come2240 upon1909 this5026 generation.1074

37 O Jerusalem,2419 Jerusalem,2419 thou that killest615 the3588 prophets,4396 and2532 stonest3036 them which are sent649 unto4314 thee,846 how often4212 would2309 I have gathered thy children together,1996 4675 5043 even as3739 5158 a hen3733 gathereth1996 her1438 chickens3556 under5259 her wings,4420 and2532 ye would2309 not!3756

Matthew

Chapter 23

1 THEN Jesus spoke with the people and with his disciples.

2 And he said to them, The scribes and the Pharisees sit on the chair of Moses.

3 Therefore whatever they tell you to obey, obey and do it, but do not do according to their works; for they say and do not.

4 And they bind heavy burdens, and put them on men's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to touch them, even with their finger.

5 And all their works they do, just to be seen by men; for they widen the fringes of their garments, and they lengthen the ends of their robes,

6 And they like the chief places at feasts, and the front seats in the synagogues,

7 And the greetings in the streets, and to be called by men, Rabbi.

8 But you do not be called, Rabbi; for one is your Master, and all you are brethren.

9 And call no one on earth, father, for one is your Father in heaven.

10 Nor be called leaders, for one is your leader, the Christ.

11 But he who is greatest among you, let him be your minister.

12 For whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted.

13 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you embezzle the property of widows, with the pretense that you make long prayers; because of this you shall receive a greater judgment.*

14 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you have shut off the kingdom of heaven against men; for you do not enter into it yourselves, and do not permit those who would enter.

15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you traverse sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him the son of hell twice more than yourselves.

16 Woe to you, blind guides, for you say, Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold which is in the temple, he is guilty!

17 O you fools and blind! for which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold?

18 And whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the offering that is on it, he is guilty.

19 O you fools and blind! for which is greater, the offering, or the altar that sanctifies the offering?

20 Therefore he who swears by the altar, he swears by it and by everything that is on it.

21 And whoever swears by the temple, swears by it and by him who dwells in it.

22 And he who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God, and by him who sits on it.

23 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you take tithes on mint, dill, and cummin, and you have overlooked the more important matters of the law, such as justice, mercy, and trustworthiness. These were necessary for you to have done, and the same by no means to have left undone.

24 O blind guides, who strain at gnats and swallow camels!

25 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! you clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside they are full of extortion and iniquity.

26 Blind Pharisees! clean first the inside of the cup and of the dish, so that their outside may also be clean.

27 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you are like tombs painted white, which look beautiful from the outside, but inside are full of dead bones and all kinds of corruption.

28 Even so, from the outside you appear to men to be righteous, but from within you are full of iniquity and hypocrisy.

29 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you build the tombs of the prophets, and you decorate the graves of the righteous;

30 And you say, If we had been living in the days of our forefathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.

31 Now you testify concerning yourselves, that you are the children of those who killed the prophets.

32 You also fill up the measure of your fathers.

33 O you serpents, and seed of scorpions! how can you flee from the judgment of hell?

34 Because of this, I am sending to you prophets and wise men and scribes; some of them you will kill and crucify; and some you will scourge in your synagogues, and pursue them from city to city;

35 So that all the blood of the righteous shed on the ground may come on you, from the blood of Abel the righteous down to the blood of Zachariah, son of Barachiah, whom you killed between the temple and the altar.

36 Truly I say to you, All of these things shall come upon this generation.

37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, murderess of the prophets, and stoner of those who are sent to her! how often I wanted to gather together your children, just as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, and yet you would not!

38 Behold, your house will be left to you desolate.

39 For I say to you, from now you will not see me until you say, Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

27 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you are like tombs painted white, which look beautiful from the outside, but inside are full of dead bones and all kinds of corruption.

28 Even so3779 ye5210 also2532 outwardly1855 3303 appear5316 righteous1342 unto men,444 but1161 within2081 ye are2075 full3324 of hypocrisy5272 and2532 iniquity.458

28 Even so, from the outside you appear to men to be righteous, but from within you are full of iniquity and hypocrisy.

29 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you build the tombs of the prophets, and you decorate the graves of the righteous;

30 And2532 say,3004 If1487 we had been2258 in1722 the3588 days2250 of our2257 fathers,3962 we would not3756 have been2258 302 partakers2844 with them846 in1722 the3588 blood129 of the3588 prophets.4396

30 And you say, If we had been living in the days of our forefathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.

31 Wherefore5620 ye be witnesses3140 unto yourselves,1438 that3754 ye are2075 the children5207 of them which killed5407 the3588 prophets.4396

31 Now you testify concerning yourselves, that you are the children of those who killed the prophets.

32 Fill ye up4137 5210 then2532 the3588 measure3358 of your5216 fathers.3962

32 You also fill up the measure of your fathers.

33 Ye serpents,3789 ye generation1081 of vipers,2191 how4459 can ye escape5343 575 the3588 damnation2920 of hell?1067

33 O you serpents, and seed of scorpions! how can you flee from the judgment of hell?

34 Wherefore,1223 5124 behold,2400 I1473 send649 unto4314 you5209 prophets,4396 and2532 wise men,4680 and2532 scribes: 1122 and2532 some of1537 them846 ye shall kill615 and2532 crucify;4717 and2532 some of1537 them846 shall ye scourge3146 in1722 your5216 synagogues,4864 and2532 persecute1377 them from575 city4172 to1519 city: 4172

34 Because of this, I am sending to you prophets and wise men and scribes; some of them you will kill and crucify; and some you will scourge in your synagogues, and pursue them from city to city;

35 So that all the blood of the righteous shed on the ground may come on you, from the blood of Abel the righteous down to the blood of Zachariah, son of Barachiah, whom you killed between the temple and the altar.

36 Verily281 I say3004 unto you,5213 All3956 these things5023 shall come2240 upon1909 this5026 generation.1074

38 Behold,2400 your5216 house3624 is left863 unto you5213 desolate.2048

38 Behold, your house will be left to you desolate.

39 For1063 I say3004 unto you,5213 Ye shall not3364 see1492 me3165 henceforth,575 737 till2193 302 ye shall say,2036 Blessed2127 is he that cometh2064 in1722 the name3686 of the Lord.2962

39 For I say to you, from now you will not see me until you say, Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
