2 Разве ты определил, сколько месяцев им вынашивать? Тебе ведомо, когда им рождать,

3 как им устроиться, чтобы детенышей родить и разрешиться от бремени?

4 Крепнут их отпрыски, вырастают на воле, уходят и более к ним не возвратятся.

5 Кто даровал волю дикому ослу, кто от пут избавил это дикое животное?

6 Я назначил ему жить в пустыне, обитать на солончаках.

7 Презирает он суету городскую и криков погонщика не слышит.

8 В горах высматривает себе пропитание, каждую травинку отыскивает.

9 Пожелает ли тебе служить дикий буйвол, ночевать у тебя в стойле?

10 Разве удержишь его при бороне веревкой, разве станет боронить он долину, следуя за тобой послушно?

11 Сможешь ли на великую силу его опереться, взвалить на него свою работу?

12 Доверишь ли ему зерно твое отвезти, на гумне твоем сложить?

13 Самка страуса шумно бьет крылом, да разве сравнить его с перьями и крылами аиста?

14 Откладывает она на земле яйца и в горячей пыли оставляет греться,

15 забывая, что растоптать их могут, что дикий зверь их раздавит.

16 К птенцам своим она жестока, словно они ей чужие, не страшно ей, что все заботы ее были впустую,

17 потому что обделил ее Бог мудростью, разума ей не дал.

18 Но когда поднимется она и помчится — посрамит коня с его всадником.

19 Или ты даровал мощь коню, облек шею его гривой?

20 Сможешь ли испугать его, словно саранчу? Величавый храп его ужасен!

21 Копытом он взметывает пыль, радуется силе, бежит навстречу битве!

22 Над опасностью он смеется, ничего не боится, перед мечом не отступит.

23 Колчан на нем стучит, блещут копье и дротик.

24 Дрожа от нетерпения, поглощает пространство, не удержишь его при зове рога.

25 Заслышав рог, ржет нетерпеливо, сраженье издалека чует, крики вождей и клич боевой.

26 По твоему ли промыслу ястреб парит в небе, крылья свои простирает к югу?

27 По твоему ли веленью орел в небо взмывает, на высоком месте гнездо себе вьет?

28 На скалах он живет, там ночует, на откосе скалы неприступной,

29 оттуда высматривает пищу, зорко око его.

30 Его птенцы питаются кровью, и где мертвечина — там и он».
