Chapter 5

1 And they came2064 over to the other4008 side4008 of the sea,2281 into1519 the country5561 of the Gadarenes.1046

2 And when he was come1831 out of the ship,4143 immediately2112 there met528 him out of the tombs3419 a man444 with an unclean169 spirit,4151

3 Who3739 had2192 his dwelling2731 among1722 the tombs;3419 and no3762 man3762 could1410 bind1210 him, no,3777 not with chains:254

4 Because1223 that he had been often4178 bound1210 with fetters3976 and chains,254 and the chains254 had been plucked1288 asunder1288 by him, and the fetters3976 broken4937 in pieces: neither2532 3762 could2480 any3762 man tame1150 him.

5 And always,1275 night3571 and day,2250 he was in the mountains,3735 and in the tombs,3418 crying,2896 and cutting2629 himself1438 with stones.3037

6 But when he saw1492 Jesus2424 afar3113 off,575 he ran5143 and worshipped4352 him,

7 And cried2896 with a loud3173 voice,5456 and said,2036 What5101 have I to do with you, Jesus,2424 you Son5207 of the most5310 high5310 God?2316 I adjure3726 you by God,2316 that you torment928 me not.

8 For he said3004 to him, Come1831 out of the man,444 you unclean169 spirit.4151

9 And he asked1905 him, What5101 is your name?3686 And he answered,611 saying,3004 My name3686 is Legion:3003 for we are many.4183

10 And he sought3870 him much4183 that he would not send649 them away649 out of the country.5561

11 Now1161 there1563 was there near4314 to the mountains3735 a great3173 herd34 of swine5519 feeding.1006

12 And all3956 the devils1142 sought3870 him, saying,3004 Send3992 us into1519 the swine,5519 that we may enter1525 into1519 them.

13 And immediately2112 Jesus2424 gave2010 them leave.2010 And the unclean169 spirits4151 went1831 out, and entered1525 into1519 the swine:5519 and the herd34 ran3729 violently down2596 a steep2911 place into1519 the sea,2281 (they were about5613 two1367 thousand;1367) and were choked4155 in the sea.2281

14 And they that fed1006 the swine5519 fled,5343 and told312 it in the city,4172 and in the country.68 And they went1831 out to see1492 what5101 it was that was done.1096

15 And they come2064 to Jesus,2424 and see2334 him that was possessed1139 with the devil,1139 and had2192 the legion,3003 sitting,2521 and clothed,2439 and in his right4993 mind:4993 and they were afraid.5399

16 And they that saw1492 it told1334 them how4459 it befell1096 to him that was possessed1139 with the devil,1139 and also concerning4012 the swine.5519

17 And they began756 to pray3870 him to depart565 out of their coasts.3725

18 And when he was come1684 into1519 the ship,4143 he that had been possessed1139 with the devil1139 prayed3870 him that he might be with him.

19 However, Jesus2424 suffered863 him not, but said3004 to him, Go5217 home3624 to your friends,4674 and tell312 them how3745 great3745 things the Lord2962 has done4160 for you, and has had compassion1653 on you.

20 And he departed,565 and began756 to publish2784 in Decapolis1179 how3745 great3745 things Jesus2424 had done4160 for him: and all3956 men did marvel.2296

21 And when Jesus2424 was passed1276 over1276 again3825 by ship4143 to the other4008 side,4008 much4183 people3793 gathered4863 to him: and he was near3844 to the sea.2281

22 And, behold,2400 there comes2064 one1520 of the rulers752 of the synagogue,752 Jairus2383 by name;3686 and when he saw1492 him, he fell4098 at4314 his feet,4228

23 And sought3870 him greatly,4183 saying,3004 My little2365 daughter2365 lies2192 at the point2079 of death:2079 I pray you, come2064 and lay2007 your hands5495 on2007 her, that she may be healed;4982 and she shall live.2198

24 And Jesus went565 with him; and much4183 people3793 followed190 him, and thronged4918 him.

25 And a certain woman,1135 which had1510 an issue4511 of blood129 twelve1427 years,2094

26 And had suffered3958 many4183 things of many4183 physicians,2395 and had spent1159 all3956 that she had,3844 and was nothing3367 bettered,5623 but rather3123 grew2064 worse,5501

27 When she had heard191 of Jesus,2424 came2064 in the press3793 behind,3693 and touched680 his garment.2440

28 For she said,3004 If2579 I may touch680 but his clothes,2440 I shall be whole.4982

29 And straightway2112 the fountain4077 of her blood129 was dried3583 up; and she felt1097 in her body4983 that she was healed2390 of that plague.3148

30 And Jesus,2424 immediately2112 knowing1921 in himself1438 that virtue1411 had gone1831 out of him, turned1994 him about1994 in the press,3793 and said,3004 Who5101 touched680 my clothes?2440

31 And his disciples3101 said3004 to him, You see991 the multitude3793 thronging4918 you, and say3004 you, Who5101 touched680 me?

32 And he looked4017 round4017 about4017 to see1492 her that had done4160 this5124 thing.

33 But the woman1135 fearing5399 and trembling,5141 knowing1492 what3739 was done1096 in her, came2064 and fell4363 down before4363 him, and told2036 him all3956 the truth.225

34 And he said2036 to her, Daughter,2364 your faith4102 has made4982 you whole;4982 go5217 in peace,1515 and be whole5199 of your plague.3148

35 While he yet2089 spoke,2980 there came2064 from the ruler752 of the synagogue's752 house certain which said,3004 Your daughter2364 is dead:599 why5101 trouble4660 you the Master1320 any2089 further?2089

36 As soon2112 as Jesus2424 heard191 the word3056 that was spoken,2980 he said3004 to the ruler752 of the synagogue,752 Be not afraid,5399 only3440 believe.4100

37 And he suffered863 no3762 man3762 to follow4870 him, save1508 Peter,4074 and James,2385 and John2491 the brother80 of James.2385

38 And he comes2064 to the house3624 of the ruler752 of the synagogue,752 and sees2334 the tumult,2351 and them that wept2799 and wailed214 greatly.4183

39 And when he was come1525 in, he said3004 to them, Why5101 make2350 you this ado,2350 and weep?2799 the damsel3813 is not dead,599 but sleeps.2518

40 And they laughed2606 him to scorn.2606 But when he had put1544 them all537 out, he takes3880 the father3962 and the mother3384 of the damsel,3813 and them that were with him, and enters1531 in where3699 the damsel3813 was lying.345

41 And he took2902 the damsel3813 by the hand,5495 and said3004 to her, Talitha5008 cumi;2891 which3739 is, being interpreted,3177 Damsel,2877 I say3004 to you, arise.1453

42 And straightway2112 the damsel2877 arose,450 and walked;4043 for she was of the age of twelve1427 years.2094 And they were astonished1839 with a great3173 astonishment.1611

43 And he charged1291 them straightly4183 that no3367 man3367 should know1097 it; and commanded2036 that something should be given1325 her to eat.5315

Chapter 5

1 AND they reached the port on the other side of the sea, in the country of the Gadarenes.

2 And as he went out of the boat, he was met by a man from the cemetery, who had an unclean spirit.

3 He lived in the cemetery, and no man could bind him in chains;

4 Because whenever he was bound with fetters and chains, he broke the chains and cut the fetters, and no man could control him.

5 And always, night and day, he was in the cemetery and in the mountains, crying aloud and cutting himself with stones.

6 When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshipped him,

7 And he cried with a loud voice and said, What have we got together, Jesus, Son of the most high God? I adjure you by God, not to torment me.

8 For he said to him, Get out of the man, O you unclean spirit.

9 And he asked him, What is your name? And he said to him, Our name is Legion, because we are many.

10 And he begged him much that he would not send him out of the country.

11 Now there was there, near the mountain a large herd of swine feeding.

12 And the lunatics begged him saying, Send us to the swine, that we may attack * them.

13 And he permitted them. And the lunatics went out, and attacked the swine; and the herd ran to the steep rocks, and fell into the sea; they were about two thousand, and they were drowned in the water.

14 And those who fed them, fled, and told it in the city and also in the villages. So they went out to see what had happened.

15 And they came to Jesus, and saw the lunatic, * clothed and well behaved, and sitting down; even the one who once had the legion within him; and they were afraid.

16 And those who saw it told them just how it happened to the lunatic and also to the swine.

17 So they began to urge him to leave their border.

18 As he went up to the boat, the lunatic begged him to remain with him.

19 And he would not permit him, but said to him, Go to your home, to your own people, and tell them what the Lord has done for you, and had mercy on you.

20 And he went away, and began to preach in the ten cities about what Jesus had done for him; and they were all surprised.

21 When Jesus crossed in the boat to the other side, large crowds again gathered around him, while he was by the sea.

22 And there came one of the leaders of the synagogue, whose name was Jairus; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,

23 And he beseeched him much and said to him, My daughter is very seriously ill; come and lay your hand on her, and she will be healed, and live.

24 So Jesus went with him; and a large multitude followed him, and they pressed on him.

25 And there was a woman who had had the hemorrhage for twelve years,

26 Who had suffered much at the hands of many doctors, and had spent everything she had, and was not helped at all, but rather became worse.

27 When she heard concerning Jesus, she came through the dense crowd from behind him, and touched his cloak.

28 For she said, If I can only touch his cloak, I will live.

29 And immediately the hemorrhage was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease.

30 Jesus instantly knew that some power had gone out of him; so he turned around to the people and said, Who touched my garments?

31 His disciples said to him, You see the people pressing on you, and yet you say, Who touched me?

32 And he was looking round to see who had done this.

33 But the woman, frightened and trembling, because she knew what had happened to her, came and fell before him and told him the whole truth.

34 He said to her, My daughter, your faith has healed you; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.

35 While he was still talking, some men came from the house of the leader of the synagogue, saying, Your daughter is dead; why do you trouble the Teacher?

36 Jesus heard the word which they spoke, and he said to the leader of the synagogue, Fear not, only believe.

37 And he did not permit any man to go with him, except Simon Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.

38 And they came to the house of the leader of the synagogue, and he saw them in a tumult, weeping and wailing.

39 So he entered and said to them, Why are you excited and crying? The little girl is not dead, but she is asleep.

40 And they laughed at him. But Jesus put them all out, and took the little girl's father and mother and those who were with him, and he entered where the little girl was laid.

41 And he took the little girl by her hand, and said to her, Talitha, koomi, which means, Little girl, rise up.

42 And immediately the little girl got up and walked; for she was twelve years old. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.

43 But he commanded them that no man should know this; and he told them to give her something to eat.

32 And he looked4017 round4017 about4017 to see1492 her that had done4160 this5124 thing.

32 And he was looking round to see who had done this.

33 But the woman1135 fearing5399 and trembling,5141 knowing1492 what3739 was done1096 in her, came2064 and fell4363 down before4363 him, and told2036 him all3956 the truth.225

33 But the woman, frightened and trembling, because she knew what had happened to her, came and fell before him and told him the whole truth.

34 And he said2036 to her, Daughter,2364 your faith4102 has made4982 you whole;4982 go5217 in peace,1515 and be whole5199 of your plague.3148

34 He said to her, My daughter, your faith has healed you; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.

35 While he yet2089 spoke,2980 there came2064 from the ruler752 of the synagogue's752 house certain which said,3004 Your daughter2364 is dead:599 why5101 trouble4660 you the Master1320 any2089 further?2089

35 While he was still talking, some men came from the house of the leader of the synagogue, saying, Your daughter is dead; why do you trouble the Teacher?

36 As soon2112 as Jesus2424 heard191 the word3056 that was spoken,2980 he said3004 to the ruler752 of the synagogue,752 Be not afraid,5399 only3440 believe.4100

36 Jesus heard the word which they spoke, and he said to the leader of the synagogue, Fear not, only believe.

37 And he suffered863 no3762 man3762 to follow4870 him, save1508 Peter,4074 and James,2385 and John2491 the brother80 of James.2385

37 And he did not permit any man to go with him, except Simon Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.

38 And he comes2064 to the house3624 of the ruler752 of the synagogue,752 and sees2334 the tumult,2351 and them that wept2799 and wailed214 greatly.4183

38 And they came to the house of the leader of the synagogue, and he saw them in a tumult, weeping and wailing.

39 And when he was come1525 in, he said3004 to them, Why5101 make2350 you this ado,2350 and weep?2799 the damsel3813 is not dead,599 but sleeps.2518

39 So he entered and said to them, Why are you excited and crying? The little girl is not dead, but she is asleep.
