Глава 41

1 Всякая надежда на поимку обманчива, один вид Левиафана повергает наземь.

2 Нет столь отважного, кто решился бы потревожить его… Кто же предо Мной устоит?

3 Кто против Меня выступит и уцелеет? Всё, что ни есть под небесами, — Мое!

4 Не умолчу о его могучем теле, о силе и красоте устроения.

5 Кому под стать лишить его верхних покровов, сквозь двойной его панцирь кто проникнет?

6 Врата пасти его — кто откроет? Ряды зубов его ужас вызывают!

7 Спина его — ряды щитков, сомкнутых, запечатанных накрепко.

8 Один к другому они прижаты, даже воздух не пройдет меж ними.

9 Каждый соединен с остальными, сцеплены все неразрывно.

10 Всхрапнет он — молнии сверкают, глаза его — словно сиянье зари.

11 Из пасти его пламя вырывается, огненные искры сыплются.

12 Из ноздрей пар валит, словно от котла кипящего, раскаленного.

13 От дыхания его рдеют угли, из пасти пламя пышет.

14 В шее его мощь сокрыта, перед ним ужас вздымается.

15 Части плоти его крепко сомкнуты, слиты на нем недвижимо.

16 Сердце его твердо, как камень, твердо, как мельничный жёрнов.

17 Когда поднимается он, страшатся и боги, когда обрушивается вниз, отступают в испуге.

18 В битве против него меч бессилен, и копье, и стрела, и дротик.

19 Железо для него что солома, медь — что деревяшка гнилая.

20 Стрелы не обратят его в бегство, камни из пращи для него мякине подобны.

21 Дубину он считает за мякину, над свистом копья лишь посмеется.

22 Брюхо его словно острыми черепками покрыто, ползет он по грязи, как молотильные сани.

23 Глубь морская из-за него, как котел, вскипает, море, словно варево, клокочет.

24 За собой он след светящийся оставляет и бездна начинает отливать сединой.

25 Нет подобного ему на земле — он создан не ведающим страха.

26 На всё он взирает свысока, над всеми гордыми — он царь!»
