Chapter 18

1 AND the LORD revealed himself to him by the oak of Mamre, as he was sitting at the door of the tent in the heat of the day;

2 And he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, three men stood at a distance from him; and when he saw them, he ran from the door of the tent to meet them and bowed himself to the ground,

3 And said, O LORD, if now I have found mercy in thy sight, do not pass away from thy servant;

4 Let me bring a little water and wash your feet and rest yourselves under the tree;

5 And take a morsel of bread and sustain your hearts; after that you shall go on your way, since you have come to your servant. And they said, So do as you have said.

6 So Abraham hastened into the tent to Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine flour, knead it, and make cakes on a griddle.

7 And Abraham ran to the herd, and took a calf fat and good, and gave it to a servant, and he hastened to prepare it.

8 And he took butter and milk and the calf which he had prepared, and set them before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they ate.

9 And they said to him, Where is Sarah your wife? And he said, Behold, she is in the tent.

10 And the LORD said, I will certainly return to you at this time next year, and 1o, Sarah your wife shall be with child, and shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door which was behind her.

11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well advanced in years; and Sarah was beyond the age of childbearing.

12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am grown old, shall I renew my youth, my lord being old also?

13 And the LORD said to Abraham, Why did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I truly bear a child, when I am so old?

14 Is anything too hard for the LORD? I will return to you at this season, and Sarah your wife shall be with child, and shall have a son.

15 Then Sarah denied, saying, I did not laugh; because she was afraid. And he said, No; but you did laugh.

16 And the men rose up from there and looked toward Sodom; and Abraham went with them to see them off.

17 And the LORD said, Shall I hide from my servant Abraham the thing which I am going to do,

18 Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed through him?

19 For I know him well, and that he will command his children and his household after him, to keep the ways of the LORD, to do justice and righteousness; for the LORD shall fulfil for Abraham the thing that he has spoken concerning him.

20 And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah has come before me and their sins are very grievous,

21 I will go down now and see whether they have done altogether according to their cry which has come before me; and if not, I will know.

22 So the men turned from there and went toward Sodom; but Abraham stood yet before the LORD.

23 And Abraham drew near and said, Wilt thou in thine anger destroy the righteous with the sinners?

24 Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city; wilt thou in thine anger destroy it, and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous that are in it?

25 Far be it from thee to do such a thing as this, to slay the innocent with the guilty, far be it from thee, O thou Judge of the whole earth! Such a judgment should never be carried out.

26 And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare the whole country for their sake.

27 And Abraham answered and said, Behold, I have ventured to speak before the LORD, and yet I am but dust and ashes;

28 Suppose there shall lack five of the fifty righteous; wilt thou destroy the whole city for the lack of five men? And he said, If I find there forty-five, I will not destroy it.

29 And Abraham spoke to him and said, Suppose there shall be forty found there? And he said, I will not destroy it, if I find there forty.

30 Then Abraham said, Oh let not the LORD be displeased and I will speak: Suppose there shall thirty be found there? And he said, I will not destroy it, if I find thirty there.

31 And he said, Behold, I have ventured to speak before the LORD; suppose there shall be twenty found there? And he said, I will not destroy it for the sake of twenty.

32 And he said, Oh, let not the LORD be displeased, and I will speak only once more; suppose ten shall be found there? And he said, I will not destroy it for the sake of ten.

33 And the LORD went his way when he had finished communing with Abraham; and Abraham returned to his place.

5 а я принесу3947 хлеба,65953899 и вы подкрепите5582 сердца3820 ваши; потом310 пойдите;5674 так как вы идете5674 мимо5921 раба5650 вашего. Они сказали:1696 сделай6213 так, как говоришь.559

7 И побежал7323 Авраам85 к стаду,1241 и взял3947 теленка11211241 нежного7390 и хорошего,2896 и дал5414 отроку,5288 и тот поспешил4116 приготовить6213 его.

8 И взял3947 масла2529 и молока2461 и теленка11211241 приготовленного,6213 и поставил5414 перед3942 ними, а сам стоял5975 подле них под деревом.6086 И они ели.398

9 И сказали559 ему: где346 Сарра,8283 жена802 твоя? Он отвечал:559 здесь, в шатре.168

10 И сказал559 один из них: Я опять7725 буду7725 у тебя в это же время,62562416 и будет сын1121 у Сарры,8283 жены802 твоей. А Сарра8283 слушала8085 у входа6607 в шатер,168 сзади310 его.

11 Авраам85 же и Сарра8283 были стары2205 и в летах3117 преклонных,935 и обыкновенное734 у женщин802 у Сарры8283 прекратилось.2308

12 Сарра8283 внутренно7130 рассмеялась,6711 сказав:559 мне ли, когда310 я состарилась,1086 иметь сие утешение?5730 и господин113 мой стар.2204

13 И сказал559 Господь3068 Аврааму:85 отчего4100 это рассмеялась6711 Сарра,8283 сказав:559 «неужели я действительно552 могу3205 родить,3205 когда589 я состарилась»?2204

14 Есть ли что1697 трудное6381 для Господа?3068 В назначенный4150 срок4150 буду7725 Я у тебя в следующем году,62562416 и у Сарры8283 будет сын.1121

15 Сарра8283 же не призналась,3584 а сказала:559 я не смеялась.6711 Ибо она испугалась.3372 Но Он сказал:559 нет,3808 ты рассмеялась.6711

16 И встали6965 те мужи582 и оттуда отправились8259 к59216440 Содому;5467 Авраам85 же пошел1980 с ними, проводить7971 их.

18 От Авраама85 точно произойдет народ1471 великий1419 и сильный,6099 и благословятся1288 в нем все народы1471 земли,776

23 И подошел5066 Авраам85 и сказал:559 неужели Ты погубишь5595 праведного6662 с5973 нечестивым?7563

24 может быть,3426 есть в8432 этом городе5892 пятьдесят2572 праведников?6662 неужели Ты погубишь,5595 и не пощадишь5375 места4725 сего ради4616 пятидесяти2572 праведников,6662 в7130 нем?

25 не может быть,2486 чтобы Ты поступил6213 так,1697 чтобы Ты погубил4191 праведного6662 с нечестивым,7563 чтобы то же было с праведником,6662 что с нечестивым;7563 не может быть2486 от Тебя! Судия8199 всей земли776 поступит6213 ли неправосудно?4941

26 Господь3068 сказал:559 если Я найду4672 в8432 городе5892 Содоме5467 пятьдесят2572 праведников,6662 то Я ради них пощажу5375 все место4725 сие.

27 Авраам85 сказал559 в6030 ответ:6030 вот, я решился2974 говорить1696 Владыке,136 я,595 прах6083 и пепел:665

28 может быть, до пятидесяти2572 праведников6662 недостанет2637 пяти,2568 неужели за недостатком пяти2568 Ты истребишь7843 весь город?5892 Он сказал:559 не истреблю,7843 если найду4672 там сорок705 пять.2568

29 Авраам продолжал1696 говорить3254 с Ним и сказал:559 может быть, найдется4672 там сорок?705 Он сказал:559 не сделаю6213 того и ради сорока.705

30 И сказал559 Авраам: да4994 не прогневается2734 Владыка,136 что я буду1696 говорить:1696 может быть, найдется4672 там тридцать?7970 Он сказал:559 не сделаю,6213 если найдется4672 там тридцать.7970

31 Авраам сказал:559 вот, я решился2974 говорить1696 Владыке:136 может быть, найдется4672 там двадцать?6242 Он сказал:559 не истреблю7843 ради двадцати.6242

18 Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed through him?

19 For I know him well, and that he will command his children and his household after him, to keep the ways of the LORD, to do justice and righteousness; for the LORD shall fulfil for Abraham the thing that he has spoken concerning him.

26 And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare the whole country for their sake.

27 And Abraham answered and said, Behold, I have ventured to speak before the LORD, and yet I am but dust and ashes;

29 And Abraham spoke to him and said, Suppose there shall be forty found there? And he said, I will not destroy it, if I find there forty.
