Chapter 39

1 DO you know the time when wild goats bring forth in the steep rocks? Or can you watch the calving of hinds?

2 Can you number the months that they fulfill, and know the time when they bring forth?

3 And do you know when they kneel and bring forth their young ones?

4 They bring up their young ones, until they grow up and are weaned.

5 Who has left the wild ass to be free, and made him to escape the yoke?

6 For he has made the plain his house, and the salt land his dwelling place.

7 He scorns the multitude of cities, and is not afraid of the voice of rulers.

8 The tops of mountains are his pasture, and he treads over every green thing.

9 Will the unicorn be willing to serve you, or will he spend the night at your crib?

10 Can you bind the yoke on the neck of the unicorn? Or will he harrow in a rugged place?

11 Will you have confidence in him, because his strength is great? Or will you leave your labor to him?

12 Do you trust him, that he will winnow your threshing and gather your grain into the barn?

13 The ostrich rouses herself up haughtily; then she comes and makes her nest;

14 But she leaves her eggs in the earth to be warmed on the ground.

15 And because she has the feet of a bird, forgets that the wild beast may trample them.

16 She multiplies her young ones, though they do not stay with her; although her labor is in vain, she has no fear:

17 God has increased wisdom, but he has not given her a portion of it.

18 She raises herself high like a palm tree; she laughs at the horse and his rider.

19 Have you given the horse strength? Have you clothed his neck with armour?

20 Can you make him move like the locust? Or can you make him afraid?

21 He paws in the plain, and rejoices in the valley; he goes forth armed to the battle.

22 He laughs at a pit, and is not frightened; neither does he turn back from the sword.

23 The quiver rattles against him, the glittering spear and the lance.

24 He gallops with rage that makes the ground to tremble, nor does he fear the sound of the trumpet.

25 He makes the sound, Aha, aha; and he smells the battle from afar; he terrifies the officers with his neighing.

26 Is it by your wisdom that the hawk was created and wings his way toward the south?

27 Does the eagle soar at your command, and make his nest in steep rocks?

28 He dwells and lodges on the rock, upon the cliff of the precipice.

29 He is sustained by his prey, his eyes behold afar off.

30 His young ones suck up blood; and where the slain are, there is he.

1 «Иов, знаешь ли время ты, когда рождаются горные козы, видел ли ты роды оленихи?

2 Знаешь ли ты, сколько месяцев должны вынашивать своих детей и горная коза, и олениха? Знаешь ли ты, когда им время рожать?

3 Они изгибаются в муках родовых, а затем появляются на свет их дети.

4 Дети этих зверей набирают силу в полях,

5 Кто даёт свободу дикому ослу, кто с него снимает поводья?

6 Я дал пустыню дикому ослу как дом, солончаки жилищем сделал.

7 Он счастлив находиться вдали от шумных городов и никогда не слышать наездников кричащих.

8 Он живёт в горах, на пастбищах своих, там пропитание он себе находит.

9 Согласится ли дикий бык тебе служить, останется ли он в твоём амбаре на ночь?

10 Позволит ли тебе, Иов, себя запрячь для пашни дикий бык?

11 Силён дикий бык, но доверишь ли ты ему свою работу?

12 Доверишь ли ты ему сбор урожая, чтобы он принёс зерно на молотилку?

13 Страус, когда взволнован, машет своими крыльями, но взлететь не может — крылья его и перья не те, что у аиста.

14 Страус откладывает яйца в песке, который согревает их.

15 Он забывает, что кто-нибудь может на них наступить или способен раздавить их зверь.

16 Страус птенцов своих бросает, будто они чужие. И если они умирают, страусу всё равно, что труд его напрасен.

17 Страусу не дал Я мудрости, страус глуп, таким его Я сотворил.

18 Но, когда он встаёт для бега, он смеётся над лошадью и ездоком, потому что страус бегает быстрее любого коня.

19 Ты ли, Иов, дал силу коню, ты ли украсил его шею гривой?

20 Ты ль заставляешь прыгать коня как саранчу? Кони громко хрипят, и это пугает людей.

21 Конь счастлив силой своей, он бьёт по земле копытом и мчится битве навстречу.

22 Конь смеётся над страхом, поэтому он не бежит с поля битвы.

23 Колчан звенит с боку коня, копьё и оружие всадника сверкают на солнце.

24 Конь возбуждён битвой, он летит галопом над землёю и не может стоять при звуке трубы.

25 Конь фыркает „Ура”, услышав звуки боевого горна, он издалёка чует битву и слышит крик и голоса вождей.

26 Ты ли, Иов, ястреба научил раскидывать крылья и лететь на юг?

27 Ты ли сказал орлу парить высоко в небе и вить гнездо в горах?

28 Орел живёт на скале, она — его крепость.

29 Оттуда он себе высматривает пищу, он может видеть очень далеко.

30 Орлы собираются возле павших и их птенцы пьют кровь».

2 Can you number the months that they fulfill, and know the time when they bring forth?	2 Знаешь ли ты, сколько месяцев должны вынашивать своих детей и горная коза, и олениха? Знаешь ли ты, когда им время рожать?
3 And do you know when they kneel and bring forth their young ones?	3 Они изгибаются в муках родовых, а затем появляются на свет их дети.
4 They bring up their young ones, until they grow up and are weaned.	4 Дети этих зверей набирают силу в полях,

19 Have you given the horse strength? Have you clothed his neck with armour?	19 Ты ли, Иов, дал силу коню, ты ли украсил его шею гривой?
