Chapter 40

1 THE word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after Nebuzaradan the general of the guard sent him away from Ramtha, when he had taken him bound in chains among all the captives of Jerusalem and Judah who were carried away captive to Babylon.

2 And the general of the guard took Jeremiah, and said to him, The LORD your God has pronounced this evil upon this place.

3 Now the LORD has brought it and done according as he has said, because you have sinned against the LORD and did not obey his voice, therefore this thing has come upon you.

4 And now, behold, I release you this day from the chains which are upon your hands. If you wish to come with me to Babylon, come, and I will take good care of you; but if you do not wish to come with me to Babylon, remain here. Behold, all the land is before you; wherever it seems good and convenient for you to go, thither go.

5 Then he said to him again, If you remain, dwell among the people with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has made governor over the cities of Judah; or go wherever it seems good to you to go. Then Nebuzaradan, the general of the guard gave him presents after the custom and let him go.

6 Then Jeremiah went to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, to Mizpah, and dwelt with him among the people who were left in the land.

7 Now when all the captains of the forces who were in the villages and their men heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land and had committed to him men and women and children and some of the poor of the land who had not been carried away captive to Babylon,

8 Then they came to Gedaliah at Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite and Jezaniah the son of Maacath, they and their men.

9 And Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan swore to them and to their men, saying, Fear not to serve the Chaldeans; dwell in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.

10 As for me, behold, I will dwell in Mizpah, to stand before the Chaldeans who will come to us; but you gather wheat, wine, oil, and summer fruits, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in the cities that you have taken.

11 Likewise when all the Jews who were in Edom, Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in all other countries heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah and that he had appointed over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan;

12 Then all the Jews returned from all the places to which they had been driven and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, to Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits very much.

13 Moreover, Johanan the son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces who were in the villages came to Gedaliah to Mizpah,

14 And said to him, Do you not know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to slay you? But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam did not believe them.

15 Then Johanan the son of Kareah spoke secretly to Gedaliah at Mizpah, saying, Let me go and slay Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it; lest he slay you, and all the Jews who are gathered to you should be scattered, and the remnant of the Jews should perish.

16 But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said to Johanan the son of Kareah, You shall not do this thing; for you are speaking falsely of Ishmael.

1 Слово, которое было к Иеремии от Иеговы, после того, как Невузарадан, начальник телохранителей, отпустил его из Рамы, где он взял его, скованного цепями, среди прочих пленных иерусалимлян и иудеев, переселяемых в Вавилон.

2 Начальник телохранителей взял Иеремию, и сказал ему: Иегова Бог твой изрек сие бедствие на место сие;

3 И навел оное, и выполнил Иегова то, что сказал; поелику вы согрешили пред Иеговою, и не слушали гласа Его, то и сделалось у вас такое дело.

4 Итак вот я освобождаю тебя сегодня от цепей, которые на руках твоих; если тебе угодно идти со мною в Вавилон, пойди, и я буду смотреть на тебя милостивым оком; а если не угодно тебе идти со мною в Вавилон, не ходи. Вот, вся земля перед тобою; куда тебе угодно, и куда глазам твоим нравится идти, туда и пойди.

5 И когда он еще не отходил, пойди, сказал он, к Гедалии, сыну Ахикама, сына Шафанова, которому царь вавилонский вверил города иудейские, и оставайся с ним среди народа; или пойди, куда глазам твоим нравится идти. И дал ему начальник телохранителей постоянное жалованье и подарок, и отпустил его.

6 И пришел Иеремия к Гедалии, сыну Ахикамову, в Мицфу, и стал жить с ним среди народа, остававшегося на земле.

7 Все военачальники, бывшие в поле, и люди их, услышали, что царь вавилонский вверил землю Гедалии, сыну Ахикамову, и что он поручил ему тех мужчин и женщин, и детей, и тех из бедности земли, которых не переселил в Вавилон;

8 И пришли к Гедалии в Мицфу, и Исмаил, сын Нефании, и Иоханан, и Ионафан, сыны Керея, и Сераия, сын Ианхумефа, и сыновья Ефаия из Нетофафа, и Иезания, сын Маахитянина, они, и люди их.

9 И поклялся Гедалия, сын Ахикама, сына Шафанова, им и людям их, говоря: не бойтесь служить халдеям, селитесь на земле и служите царю вавилонскому, и будет вам хорошо.

10 А я, вот остаюсь жить в Мицфе, чтоб являться на лице к халдеям, которые будут приходить к нам. Вы же собирайте вино, и плоды летние, и масло, и кладите в свои сосуды; и живите в своих городах, которые займете.

11 Равно и прочие иудеи, которые находились в моавитской земле, и у сынов Аммоновых, и в Идумеи, и во всех других землях, услышали, что дал царь вавилонский остаток Иуде, и что он поставил над ними Гедалию, сына Ахикама, сына Шафанова;

12 И возвратились все сии иудеи из всех мест, куда они разбежались; и пришли в землю иудейскую к Гедалии в Мицфу; и собрали вина и летних плодов весьма много.

13 После того Иоханан, сын Кареев, и все военачальники бывшие в поле, пришли к Гедалии в Мицфу,

14 И сказали ему: знаешь ли, что Ваалис, царь сынов Аммоновых, присылал к Исмаилу, сыну Нефанииу, чтоб он убил тебя? Но Гедалия, сын Ахикамов, им не поверил.

15 Иоханан, сын Карея, сказал потом Гедалии тайно в Мицфе: пойду я, и убью Исмаила, сына Нефаниина, и никто не будет знать; зачем допускать, чтоб он убил тебя, и чтоб все иудеи, собравшиеся к тебе, рассеялись, и чтоб погиб остаток Иуды?

16 Но Гедалия, сын Ахикамов, сказал Иоханану, сыну Карееву: не делай сего, ибо ты неправду говоришь об Исмаиле.

1 THE word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after Nebuzaradan the general of the guard sent him away from Ramtha, when he had taken him bound in chains among all the captives of Jerusalem and Judah who were carried away captive to Babylon.

1 Слово, которое было к Иеремии от Иеговы, после того, как Невузарадан, начальник телохранителей, отпустил его из Рамы, где он взял его, скованного цепями, среди прочих пленных иерусалимлян и иудеев, переселяемых в Вавилон.

2 And the general of the guard took Jeremiah, and said to him, The LORD your God has pronounced this evil upon this place.

2 Начальник телохранителей взял Иеремию, и сказал ему: Иегова Бог твой изрек сие бедствие на место сие;

3 Now the LORD has brought it and done according as he has said, because you have sinned against the LORD and did not obey his voice, therefore this thing has come upon you.

3 И навел оное, и выполнил Иегова то, что сказал; поелику вы согрешили пред Иеговою, и не слушали гласа Его, то и сделалось у вас такое дело.

4 And now, behold, I release you this day from the chains which are upon your hands. If you wish to come with me to Babylon, come, and I will take good care of you; but if you do not wish to come with me to Babylon, remain here. Behold, all the land is before you; wherever it seems good and convenient for you to go, thither go.

4 Итак вот я освобождаю тебя сегодня от цепей, которые на руках твоих; если тебе угодно идти со мною в Вавилон, пойди, и я буду смотреть на тебя милостивым оком; а если не угодно тебе идти со мною в Вавилон, не ходи. Вот, вся земля перед тобою; куда тебе угодно, и куда глазам твоим нравится идти, туда и пойди.

5 Then he said to him again, If you remain, dwell among the people with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has made governor over the cities of Judah; or go wherever it seems good to you to go. Then Nebuzaradan, the general of the guard gave him presents after the custom and let him go.

5 И когда он еще не отходил, пойди, сказал он, к Гедалии, сыну Ахикама, сына Шафанова, которому царь вавилонский вверил города иудейские, и оставайся с ним среди народа; или пойди, куда глазам твоим нравится идти. И дал ему начальник телохранителей постоянное жалованье и подарок, и отпустил его.

6 Then Jeremiah went to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, to Mizpah, and dwelt with him among the people who were left in the land.

6 И пришел Иеремия к Гедалии, сыну Ахикамову, в Мицфу, и стал жить с ним среди народа, остававшегося на земле.

7 Now when all the captains of the forces who were in the villages and their men heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land and had committed to him men and women and children and some of the poor of the land who had not been carried away captive to Babylon,

7 Все военачальники, бывшие в поле, и люди их, услышали, что царь вавилонский вверил землю Гедалии, сыну Ахикамову, и что он поручил ему тех мужчин и женщин, и детей, и тех из бедности земли, которых не переселил в Вавилон;

8 Then they came to Gedaliah at Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite and Jezaniah the son of Maacath, they and their men.

8 И пришли к Гедалии в Мицфу, и Исмаил, сын Нефании, и Иоханан, и Ионафан, сыны Керея, и Сераия, сын Ианхумефа, и сыновья Ефаия из Нетофафа, и Иезания, сын Маахитянина, они, и люди их.

9 And Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan swore to them and to their men, saying, Fear not to serve the Chaldeans; dwell in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.

9 И поклялся Гедалия, сын Ахикама, сына Шафанова, им и людям их, говоря: не бойтесь служить халдеям, селитесь на земле и служите царю вавилонскому, и будет вам хорошо.

10 As for me, behold, I will dwell in Mizpah, to stand before the Chaldeans who will come to us; but you gather wheat, wine, oil, and summer fruits, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in the cities that you have taken.

10 А я, вот остаюсь жить в Мицфе, чтоб являться на лице к халдеям, которые будут приходить к нам. Вы же собирайте вино, и плоды летние, и масло, и кладите в свои сосуды; и живите в своих городах, которые займете.

11 Likewise when all the Jews who were in Edom, Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in all other countries heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah and that he had appointed over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan;

11 Равно и прочие иудеи, которые находились в моавитской земле, и у сынов Аммоновых, и в Идумеи, и во всех других землях, услышали, что дал царь вавилонский остаток Иуде, и что он поставил над ними Гедалию, сына Ахикама, сына Шафанова;

12 Then all the Jews returned from all the places to which they had been driven and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, to Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits very much.

12 И возвратились все сии иудеи из всех мест, куда они разбежались; и пришли в землю иудейскую к Гедалии в Мицфу; и собрали вина и летних плодов весьма много.

13 Moreover, Johanan the son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces who were in the villages came to Gedaliah to Mizpah,

13 После того Иоханан, сын Кареев, и все военачальники бывшие в поле, пришли к Гедалии в Мицфу,

14 And said to him, Do you not know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to slay you? But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam did not believe them.

14 И сказали ему: знаешь ли, что Ваалис, царь сынов Аммоновых, присылал к Исмаилу, сыну Нефанииу, чтоб он убил тебя? Но Гедалия, сын Ахикамов, им не поверил.

15 Then Johanan the son of Kareah spoke secretly to Gedaliah at Mizpah, saying, Let me go and slay Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it; lest he slay you, and all the Jews who are gathered to you should be scattered, and the remnant of the Jews should perish.

15 Иоханан, сын Карея, сказал потом Гедалии тайно в Мицфе: пойду я, и убью Исмаила, сына Нефаниина, и никто не будет знать; зачем допускать, чтоб он убил тебя, и чтоб все иудеи, собравшиеся к тебе, рассеялись, и чтоб погиб остаток Иуды?

16 But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said to Johanan the son of Kareah, You shall not do this thing; for you are speaking falsely of Ishmael.

16 Но Гедалия, сын Ахикамов, сказал Иоханану, сыну Карееву: не делай сего, ибо ты неправду говоришь об Исмаиле.
