Chapter 19

1 IN the third month after the departure of the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt, on the same day they came to the wilderness of Seen.

2 Then they journeyed from Rephidim and came to the wilderness of Sinai, and they encamped in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mountain.

3 And Moses went up to God, and God called to him out of the mountain and said to him, Thus shall you say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel,

4 You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you as though you were on eagles' wings and brought you to myself.

5 Now therefore, if you will obey my voice indeed and keep my covenant, then you shall be my beloved ones above all peoples, for all the earth is mine;

6 And you shall be to me a kingdom and priests and an holy people. These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.

7 And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and said in their presence all these words which the LORD commanded him.

8 And all the people answered together and said, All that the LORD has spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people to the LORD.

9 And the LORD said to Moses, Lo, I am coming to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you and also believe you for ever. And Moses told the words of the people before the LORD.

10 And the LORD said to Moses, Go to the people and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes,

11 And be ready by the third day; for on the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.

12 And you shall publish a warning among the people, saying, Take heed to yourselves, neither go up into the mountain, nor draw near to the border of it; whoever draws near to the mountain shall be put to death:

13 No hand shall touch it, but he shall surely be stoned and hurled down; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live; when the trumpet is silent, then you are permitted to ascend the mountain.

14 And Moses went down from the mountain to the people and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.

15 And he said to the people, Be ready on the third day; do not touch your wives.

16 And it came to pass on the third day in the morning that there were thunders and lightnings and a thick cloud appeared upon the mountain and the sound of the trumpet exceedingly loud; so that all the people that were in the camp trembled.

17 Then Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet God; and they stood at the base of the mountain.

18 And the whole mountain of Sinai was smoking because the LORD descended upon it in fire; and the smoke thereof ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly.

19 And when the blast of the trumpet sounded long and grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by a voice.

20 And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai, to the very top of the mountain: and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mountain; and Moses went up.

21 And the LORD said to Moses, Go down, warn the people, test they break through to the LORD to gaze, and many of them perish.

22 And let the priests also who come near to the LORD sanctify themselves, lest the LORD break forth upon them.

23 And Moses said to the LORD, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai; for thou didst warn us, saying, Set bounds about the mountain and sanctify it.

24 And the LORD said to him, Hasten, go down, and then come up, you, and Aaron your brother with you; but let not the priests and the people break through to come up before the LORD, test he kill them.

25 So Moses went down to the people and told them.

1 [1-2] Покинув свою стоянку в Рефидиме, израильтяне достигли Синайской пустыни и там расположились станом у горы; произошло это к третьему месяцу после их ухода из Египта… в этот день вошли они в Синайскую пустыню.

3 И как только Моисей стал восходить на гору, чтобы встретиться с Богом, ГОСПОДЬ воззвал к нему с горы: «Вот что от имени Моего ты должен сказать дому Иакова, возвестить сынам Израилевым:

4 „Вы видели, что Я сделал с египтянами и как Я поднимал и подхватывал вас, словно орел птенцов на крыльях, и как привел к Себе.

5 И теперь, если вы будете слушать слова Мои и чтить Завет Мой, то вас предпочту Я всем иным народам — вы будете Моим особым достоянием. Вся земля, все народы на ней — Мои,

6 но вы будете у Меня царством священников, святым народом“. Перескажи эти слова сынам Израилевым».

7 Когда Моисей вернулся, он созвал старейшин народа и передал им то, что поручил ему ГОСПОДЬ.

8 Они откликнулись единодушно: «Всё, что велит ГОСПОДЬ, будем делать!» С этим ответом старейшин народа Моисей предстал пред ГОСПОДОМ.

9 «Знай же! — сказал ему ГОСПОДЬ. — Я снизойду к тебе в густом облаке и буду говорить с тобой в присутствии народа, чтобы его доверие к тебе никогда не ослабевало». Это было сказано после того, как Моисей пересказал слова народа ГОСПОДУ.

10 И дал тогда ГОСПОДЬ Моисею такой наказ: «Пойди к народу и сделай нынешний и завтрашний дни его днями освящения. Пусть выстирают они одежды свои

11 и приготовятся к третьему дню, ибо в третий день сойду Я на глазах у всего народа на гору Синай.

12 Очерти границу вокруг горы и скажи людям: „Смотрите, не пытайтесь подниматься на гору эту и даже подножия ее не касайтесь! Всякий, кто коснется горы, должен быть предан смерти.

13 Его надо либо побить камнями, либо стрелою сразить насмерть, чтобы не притрагиваться к нему руками. Кто бы это ни был — животное или человек, — не может он оставаться в живых. Лишь когда раздастся протяжный трубный звук, смогут они — те, кто будет позван, — к горе подойти“».

14 Сошел Моисей с горы к израильтянам и велел им совершить всё то, что было нужно для их освящения. И выстирали они в знак освящения одежды свои.

15 А Моисей сказал им: «Готовьтесь к третьему дню. К женам не прикасайтесь».

16 В третий день, рано утром, послышались раскаты грома, засверкали молнии, и гору покрыло густое облако. За всем этим последовал столь сильный звук трубы, что люди в стане затрепетали от страха.

17 Тогда Моисей повел их из стана навстречу Богу, и стали они у подножия горы.

18 А гора Синай сокрылась в дыму, ибо огнем сошел ГОСПОДЬ на нее. Дым, как из печи плавильной, восходил клубами вверх. Вся гора сотрясалась,

19 и трубный звук всё нарастал и нарастал. Но Бог на всякое слово Моисея отвечал ему голосом ясным.

20 ГОСПОДЬ, как только сошел Он на гору Синай, на вершину ее, велел и Моисею подняться туда. Когда же Моисей поднялся на гору,

21 ГОСПОДЬ сказал ему: «Спустись и предупреди еще раз народ очень строго, чтобы не пытался никто переступить границу очерченную, желая увидеть ГОСПОДА, — иначе многие из народа погибнут.

22 Священники же, которые при служении своем приближаются к ГОСПОДУ, непременно должны освятить себя ныне, дабы не уничтожил их ГОСПОДЬ».

23 Моисей поспешил заверить ГОСПОДА: «Не решится народ подняться на гору Синай, ибо строго повелел Ты нам очертить вокруг горы границу и блюсти ее как святыню».

24 ГОСПОДЬ на это сказал: «Теперь сойди к народу, а затем возвращайся сюда с Аароном. Но ни священники, ни народ пусть не порываются взойти сюда к ГОСПОДУ, иначе Я уничтожу их».

25 Моисей спустился к народу и пересказал ему всё, что услышал от Бога.

1 IN the third month after the departure of the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt, on the same day they came to the wilderness of Seen.

1 [1-2] Покинув свою стоянку в Рефидиме, израильтяне достигли Синайской пустыни и там расположились станом у горы; произошло это к третьему месяцу после их ухода из Египта… в этот день вошли они в Синайскую пустыню.

2 Then they journeyed from Rephidim and came to the wilderness of Sinai, and they encamped in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mountain.

3 And Moses went up to God, and God called to him out of the mountain and said to him, Thus shall you say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel,

3 И как только Моисей стал восходить на гору, чтобы встретиться с Богом, ГОСПОДЬ воззвал к нему с горы: «Вот что от имени Моего ты должен сказать дому Иакова, возвестить сынам Израилевым:

4 You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you as though you were on eagles' wings and brought you to myself.

4 „Вы видели, что Я сделал с египтянами и как Я поднимал и подхватывал вас, словно орел птенцов на крыльях, и как привел к Себе.

5 И теперь, если вы будете слушать слова Мои и чтить Завет Мой, то вас предпочту Я всем иным народам — вы будете Моим особым достоянием. Вся земля, все народы на ней — Мои,

6 And you shall be to me a kingdom and priests and an holy people. These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.

6 но вы будете у Меня царством священников, святым народом“. Перескажи эти слова сынам Израилевым».

7 And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and said in their presence all these words which the LORD commanded him.

7 Когда Моисей вернулся, он созвал старейшин народа и передал им то, что поручил ему ГОСПОДЬ.

8 And all the people answered together and said, All that the LORD has spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people to the LORD.

8 Они откликнулись единодушно: «Всё, что велит ГОСПОДЬ, будем делать!» С этим ответом старейшин народа Моисей предстал пред ГОСПОДОМ.

9 And the LORD said to Moses, Lo, I am coming to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you and also believe you for ever. And Moses told the words of the people before the LORD.

9 «Знай же! — сказал ему ГОСПОДЬ. — Я снизойду к тебе в густом облаке и буду говорить с тобой в присутствии народа, чтобы его доверие к тебе никогда не ослабевало». Это было сказано после того, как Моисей пересказал слова народа ГОСПОДУ.

10 And the LORD said to Moses, Go to the people and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes,

10 И дал тогда ГОСПОДЬ Моисею такой наказ: «Пойди к народу и сделай нынешний и завтрашний дни его днями освящения. Пусть выстирают они одежды свои

11 And be ready by the third day; for on the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.

11 и приготовятся к третьему дню, ибо в третий день сойду Я на глазах у всего народа на гору Синай.

12 And you shall publish a warning among the people, saying, Take heed to yourselves, neither go up into the mountain, nor draw near to the border of it; whoever draws near to the mountain shall be put to death:

12 Очерти границу вокруг горы и скажи людям: „Смотрите, не пытайтесь подниматься на гору эту и даже подножия ее не касайтесь! Всякий, кто коснется горы, должен быть предан смерти.

13 No hand shall touch it, but he shall surely be stoned and hurled down; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live; when the trumpet is silent, then you are permitted to ascend the mountain.

13 Его надо либо побить камнями, либо стрелою сразить насмерть, чтобы не притрагиваться к нему руками. Кто бы это ни был — животное или человек, — не может он оставаться в живых. Лишь когда раздастся протяжный трубный звук, смогут они — те, кто будет позван, — к горе подойти“».

14 And Moses went down from the mountain to the people and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.

14 Сошел Моисей с горы к израильтянам и велел им совершить всё то, что было нужно для их освящения. И выстирали они в знак освящения одежды свои.

15 And he said to the people, Be ready on the third day; do not touch your wives.

15 А Моисей сказал им: «Готовьтесь к третьему дню. К женам не прикасайтесь».

16 And it came to pass on the third day in the morning that there were thunders and lightnings and a thick cloud appeared upon the mountain and the sound of the trumpet exceedingly loud; so that all the people that were in the camp trembled.

16 В третий день, рано утром, послышались раскаты грома, засверкали молнии, и гору покрыло густое облако. За всем этим последовал столь сильный звук трубы, что люди в стане затрепетали от страха.

17 Then Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet God; and they stood at the base of the mountain.

17 Тогда Моисей повел их из стана навстречу Богу, и стали они у подножия горы.

18 And the whole mountain of Sinai was smoking because the LORD descended upon it in fire; and the smoke thereof ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly.

18 А гора Синай сокрылась в дыму, ибо огнем сошел ГОСПОДЬ на нее. Дым, как из печи плавильной, восходил клубами вверх. Вся гора сотрясалась,

19 And when the blast of the trumpet sounded long and grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by a voice.

19 и трубный звук всё нарастал и нарастал. Но Бог на всякое слово Моисея отвечал ему голосом ясным.

20 And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai, to the very top of the mountain: and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mountain; and Moses went up.

20 ГОСПОДЬ, как только сошел Он на гору Синай, на вершину ее, велел и Моисею подняться туда. Когда же Моисей поднялся на гору,

21 And the LORD said to Moses, Go down, warn the people, test they break through to the LORD to gaze, and many of them perish.

21 ГОСПОДЬ сказал ему: «Спустись и предупреди еще раз народ очень строго, чтобы не пытался никто переступить границу очерченную, желая увидеть ГОСПОДА, — иначе многие из народа погибнут.

22 And let the priests also who come near to the LORD sanctify themselves, lest the LORD break forth upon them.

22 Священники же, которые при служении своем приближаются к ГОСПОДУ, непременно должны освятить себя ныне, дабы не уничтожил их ГОСПОДЬ».

23 And Moses said to the LORD, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai; for thou didst warn us, saying, Set bounds about the mountain and sanctify it.

23 Моисей поспешил заверить ГОСПОДА: «Не решится народ подняться на гору Синай, ибо строго повелел Ты нам очертить вокруг горы границу и блюсти ее как святыню».

24 And the LORD said to him, Hasten, go down, and then come up, you, and Aaron your brother with you; but let not the priests and the people break through to come up before the LORD, test he kill them.

24 ГОСПОДЬ на это сказал: «Теперь сойди к народу, а затем возвращайся сюда с Аароном. Но ни священники, ни народ пусть не порываются взойти сюда к ГОСПОДУ, иначе Я уничтожу их».

25 So Moses went down to the people and told them.

25 Моисей спустился к народу и пересказал ему всё, что услышал от Бога.
