Ruth

Chapter 2

1 AND Naomi had a kinsman of her husband's, a well-known man of wealth, of the family of Elimeleck, whose name was Boaz.

2 And Ruth the Moabitess said to her mother-in-law Naomi, Let me now go to the field and glean ears of wheat after the reapers in whose sight I may find favor. And her mother-in-law said to her, Go, my daughter.

3 So Ruth went to glean ears of wheat after the reapers; and it happened that she came upon a portion of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimeleck.

4 And, behold, Boaz came from Beth-lehem, and said to the reapers, Peace be with you. And they answered him, The LORD bless you.

5 Then Boaz said to the young man who was in charge of the reapers, Whose damsel is this?

6 And the young man answered and said to him, It is the Moabite woman who came back with Naomi from the land of Moab;

7 And she said, Let me glean the ears of wheat after the reapers; so she has been gleaning from the morning until the time of rest.

8 Then Boaz said to Ruth, My daughter, have you not heard the saying, Do not glean in a field which is not yours? Now therefore stay here, and spend the night with my maidens.

9 Look at the field where they are reaping, and follow them; behold, I have charged the young men that no man shall harm you; and when you get thirsty, go and drink from the vessels which the young men have drawn.

10 Then she fell on her face to the ground, and made obeisance to him, and said, Is it because I have found grace in your eyes, that you should recognize me, seeing that I am a stranger?

11 And Boaz said to her, I have been fully en_lbp_informed of all that you have done for your mother-in-law after the death of your husband; and how you have left your father and mother and your family, and come to a people that you did not know before.

12 May the LORD God of Israel reward you, and may the One under whose wings you have come to take shelter recompense you.

13 Then she said to him, Because I have found favor in your sight, my lord, and you have comforted me and have spoken kindly to your handmaid, let me become like one of your maidservants.

14 And Boaz said to her at mealtime, Come near and eat of the bread; and he set her beside the reapers, and gave her barley-meal, and dipped bread in milk; then he gave her parched wheat, and she did eat and was satisfied, and she had some left over.

15 And when she was risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his servants, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and do not harm her;

16 And they let her glean between the sheaves, and they did not harm her.

17 So she gleaned in the field until evening, and beat out what she had gleaned; and it was about an ephah of barley.

18 And she took it up and went into the city; and she showed her mother-in-law what she had gleaned; and she gave her of the food which was left over after she had eaten and was satisfied.

19 And her mother-in-law said to her, Where did you glean today? Blessed be the place in which you were and the man in whose eyes you have found favor. And she told her mother-in-law where she had been, and said, The man's name in whose field I gleaned today is Boaz.

20 And Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, Blessed is the LORD, because he has not caused his kindness to cease from the living nor from the dead. And Naomi said to her, The man is near of kin to us, he is one of our nearest kinsmen.

21 And Ruth said to her mother-in-law, He said to me also, You shall keep close by my servants until all the harvest is finished.

22 And Naomi said to Ruth her daughter-in-law, Happy are you, my daughter, for you have kept close to his maidens, and no man harmed you in the field, whose owner you did not know!

23 So she kept close by the maidservants of Boaz to glean until the end of the barley harvest and of the wheat harvest; and Ruth dwelt with her mother-in-law.

Chapter 2

1 And Naomi5281 had a kinsman3045 of her husband's,376 a mighty1368 man376 of wealth,2428 of the family4940 of Elimelech;458 and his name8034 was Boaz.1162

2 And Ruth7327 the Moabitess4125 said559 to Naomi,5281 Let me now4994 go3212 to the field,7704 and glean3950 ears7641 of corn after310 him in whose834 sight5869 I shall find4672 grace.2580 And she said559 to her, Go,3212 my daughter.1323

3 And she went,3212 and came,935 and gleaned3950 in the field7704 after310 the reapers:7114 and her hap4745 was to light7136 on a part2513 of the field7704 belonging to Boaz,1162 who834 was of the kindred4940 of Elimelech.458

4 And, behold,2009 Boaz1162 came935 from Bethlehem,1035 and said559 to the reapers,7114 The LORD3068 be with you. And they answered559 him, The LORD3068 bless1288 you.

5 Then said559 Boaz1162 to his servant5288 that was set5324 over5921 the reapers,7114 Whose4310 damsel5291 is this?2063

6 And the servant5288 that was set5324 over5921 the reapers7114 answered6030 and said,559 It is the Moabitish4125 damsel5291 that came7725 back7725 with Naomi5281 out of the country7704 of Moab:4124

7 And she said,559 I pray4994 you, let me glean3950 and gather622 after310 the reapers7114 among996 the sheaves:6016 so she came,935 and has continued5975 even227 from the morning1242 until5704 now,6258 that she tarried3427 a little4592 in the house.1004

8 Then said559 Boaz1162 to Ruth,7327 Hear8085 you not, my daughter?1323 Go3212 not to glean3950 in another312 field,7704 neither1571 3808 go5674 from hence,2088 but abide1692 here3541 fast by my maidens:5291

9 Let your eyes5869 be on the field7704 that they do reap,7114 and go1980 you after310 them: have I not charged6680 the young5288 men that they shall not touch5060 you? and when you are thirsty,6770 go1980 to the vessels,3627 and drink8354 of that which834 the young5288 men have drawn.7579

10 Then she fell5307 on5921 her face,6440 and bowed7812 herself to the ground,776 and said559 to him, Why4069 have I found4672 grace2580 in your eyes,5869 that you should take knowledge5234 of me, seeing I am a stranger?5237

11 And Boaz1162 answered6030 and said559 to her, It has fully5046 been showed5046 me, all3605 that you have done6213 to your mother2545 in law2545 since310 the death4194 of your husband:376 and how you have left5800 your father1 and your mother,517 and the land776 of your nativity,4138 and are come1980 to a people5971 which834 you knew3045 not heretofore.8543

12 The LORD3068 recompense7999 your work,6467 and a full8003 reward4909 be given you of the LORD3068 God430 of Israel,3478 under8478 whose834 wings3671 you are come935 to trust.2620

13 Then she said,559 Let me find4672 favor2580 in your sight,5869 my lord;113 for that you have comforted5162 me, and for that you have spoken1696 friendly3820 to your handmaid,8198 though I be not like to one259 of your handmaidens.8198

14 And Boaz1162 said559 to her, At mealtime6256 400 come5060 you here,1988 and eat398 of the bread,3899 and dip2881 your morsel6595 in the vinegar.2558 And she sat3427 beside6654 the reapers:7114 and he reached6642 her parched7039 corn, and she did eat,398 and was sufficed,7646 and left.3498

15 And when she was risen6965 up to glean,3950 Boaz1162 commanded6680 his young5288 men, saying,559 Let her glean3950 even1571 among the sheaves,6016 and reproach3637 her not:

16 And let fall7997 also1571 some of the handfuls6653 of purpose7997 for her, and leave5800 them, that she may glean3950 them, and rebuke1605 her not.

17 So she gleaned3950 in the field7704 until5704 even,6153 and beat2251 out that she had gleaned:3950 and it was about an ephah374 of barley.8184

18 And she took5375 it up, and went935 into the city:5892 and her mother2545 in law2545 saw7200 what853 834 she had gleaned:3950 and she brought3318 forth,3318 and gave5414 to her that she had reserved3498 after she was sufficed.7648

19 And her mother2545 in law2545 said559 to her, Where645 have you gleaned3950 to day?3117 and where375 worked6213 you? blessed1288 be he that did take knowledge5234 of you. And she showed5046 her mother2545 in law2545 with whom834 5973 she had worked,6213 and said,559 The man's376 name8034 with whom834 5973 I worked6213 to day3117 is Boaz.1162

20 And Naomi5281 said559 to her daughter3618 in law,3618 Blessed1288 be he of the LORD,3068 who834 has not left5800 off his kindness2617 to the living2416 and to the dead.4191 And Naomi5281 said559 to her, The man376 is near7138 of kin to us, one of our next kinsmen.1350

21 And Ruth7327 the Moabitess4125 said,559 He said559 to me also, You shall keep1692 fast by my young5288 men, until5704 518 they have ended3615 all3605 my harvest.7105

22 And Naomi5281 said559 to Ruth7327 her daughter3618 in law,3618 It is good,2896 my daughter,1323 that you go3318 out with his maidens,5291 that they meet6293 you not in any other312 field.7704

23 So she kept1692 fast by the maidens5291 of Boaz1162 to glean3950 to the end3615 of barley8184 harvest7105 and of wheat2406 harvest;7105 and dwelled3427 with her mother2545 in law.2545
