Chapter 16

1 The word1697 of the LORD3068 came1961 also unto413 me, saying,559

2 Thou shalt not3808 take3947 thee a wife,802 neither3808 shalt thou have1961 sons1121 or daughters1323 in this2088 place.4725

3 For3588 thus3541 saith559 the LORD3068 concerning5921 the sons1121 and concerning5921 the daughters1323 that are born3209 in this2088 place,4725 and concerning5921 their mothers517 that bore3205 them, and concerning5921 their fathers1 that begot3205 them in this2088 land;776

4 They shall die4191 of grievous8463 deaths;4463 they shall not3808 be lamented;5594 neither3808 shall they be buried;6912 but they shall be as dung1828 upon5921 the face6440 of the earth:127 and they shall be1961 consumed3615 by the sword,2719 and by famine;7458 and their carcasses5038 shall be meat3978 for the fowls5775 of heaven,8064 and for the beasts929 of the earth.776

5 For3588 thus3541 saith559 the LORD,3068 Enter935 not408 into the house1004 of mourning,4798 neither408 go1980 to lament5594 nor408 bemoan5110 them: for3588 I have taken away622 853 my peace7965 from4480 854 this2088 people,5971 saith5002 the LORD,3068 even853 lovingkindness2617 and mercies.7356

6 Both the great1419 and the small6996 shall die4191 in this2063 land:776 they shall not3808 be buried,6912 neither3808 shall men lament5594 for them: nor3808 cut themselves,1413 nor3808 make themselves bald7139 for them:

7 Neither3808 shall men tear6536 themselves for them in5921 mourning,60 to comfort5162 them for5921 the dead;4191 neither3808 shall men give them the cup3563 of consolation8575 to drink8248 for5921 their father1 or for5921 their mother.517

8 Thou shalt not3808 also go935 into the house1004 of feasting,4960 to sit3427 with854 them to eat398 and to drink.8354

9 For3588 thus3541 saith559 the LORD3068 of hosts,6635 the God430 of Israel;3478 Behold,2009 I will cause to cease7673 out of4480 this2088 place4725 in your eyes,5869 and in your days,3117 the voice6963 of mirth,8342 and the voice6963 of gladness,8057 the voice6963 of the bridegroom,2860 and the voice6963 of the bride.3618

10 And it shall come to pass,1961 when3588 thou shalt show5046 this2088 people5971 853 all3605 these428 words,1697 and they shall say559 unto413 thee, Wherefore5921 4100 hath the LORD3068 pronounced1696 853 all3605 this2063 great1419 evil7451 against5921 us? or what4100 is our iniquity?5771 or what4100 is our sin2403 that834 we have committed2398 against the LORD3068 our God?430

11 Then shalt thou say559 unto413 them, Because5921 834 your fathers1 have forsaken5800 me, saith5002 the LORD,3068 and have walked1980 after310 other312 gods,430 and have served5647 them, and have worshiped7812 them, and have forsaken5800 me, and have not3808 kept8104 my law;8451

12 And ye859 have done6213 worse7489 than your fathers;4480 1 for, behold,2009 ye walk1980 every one376 after310 the imagination8307 of his evil7451 heart,3820 that they may not1115 hearken8085 unto413 me:

13 Therefore will I cast2904 you out of4480 5921 this2063 land776 into5921 a land776 that834 ye know3045 not,3808 neither ye859 nor your fathers;1 and there8033 shall ye serve5647 853 other312 gods430 day3119 and night;3915 where834 I will not3808 show5414 you favor.2594

14 Therefore,3651 behold,2009 the days3117 come,935 saith5002 the LORD,3068 that it shall no3808 more5750 be said,559 The LORD3068 liveth,2416 that834 brought up5927 853 the children1121 of Israel3478 out of the land4480 776 of Egypt;4714

15 But,3588 518 The LORD3068 liveth,2416 that834 brought up5927 853 the children1121 of Israel3478 from the land4480 776 of the north,6828 and from all4480 3605 the lands776 whither834 8033 he had driven5080 them: and I will bring them again7725 into5921 their land127 that834 I gave5414 unto their fathers.1

16 Behold,2009 I will send7971 for many7227 fishers,1771 saith5002 the LORD,3068 and they shall fish1770 them; and after310 3651 will I send7971 for many7227 hunters,6719 and they shall hunt6679 them from4480 5921 every3605 mountain,2022 and from4480 5921 every3605 hill,1389 and out of the holes4480 5357 of the rocks.5553

17 For3588 mine eyes5869 are upon5921 all3605 their ways:1870 they are not3808 hid5641 from my face,4480 6440 neither3808 is their iniquity5771 hid6845 from4480 5048 mine eyes.5869

18 And first7223 I will recompense7999 their iniquity5771 and their sin2403 double;4932 because5921 they have defiled2490 853 my land,776 they have filled4390 853 mine inheritance5159 with the carcasses5038 of their detestable8251 and abominable things.8441

19 O LORD,3068 my strength,5797 and my fortress,4581 and my refuge4498 in the day3117 of affliction,6869 the Gentiles1471 shall come935 unto413 thee from the ends4480 657 of the earth,776 and shall say,559 Surely389 our fathers1 have inherited5157 lies,8267 vanity,1892 and things wherein there is no369 profit.3276

20 Shall a man120 make6213 gods430 unto himself, and they1992 are no3808 gods?430

21 Therefore,3651 behold,2009 I will this2063 once6471 cause them to know,3045 I will cause them to know3045 853 mine hand3027 and my might;1369 and they shall know3045 that3588 my name8034 is The LORD.3068

4 They shall die the death of those who are ravaged by famine; they shall not be lamented, neither shall they be buried; but they shall be as refuse upon the face of the earth; and they shall be consumed by the sword and by famine, and their corpses shall be food for the fowls of the air and for the beasts of the earth.

5 For thus says the LORD, Do not enter into the house of mourning, neither go to lament nor bemoan them; for I have taken away my peace from the people, says the LORD, even lovingkindness and mercies.

6 Both the great and the small shall die in this land; they shall not be buried, neither shall any one mourn for them or lament for them, or shave his head for them;

7 Neither shall men tear themselves for them in mourning to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for their fathers or for their mothers.

8 You shall not go into the house of feasting to sit with them to eat and to drink.

9 For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will cause to cease out of this place, before your eyes and in your days, the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride.

10 And it shall come to pass, when you tell this people all these words, and they shall say to you, Why has the LORD pronounced all this great evil against us? or what is our iniquity, or what is our sin that we have sinned against the LORD our God?

11 That you shall say to them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, says the LORD, and have walked after other gods and have served them and have worshipped them, and have forsaken me and have not kept my law,

12 And you have done worse than your fathers; for, behold, you walk away every one after the imagination of his evil heart, that you may not hearken to me;

13 Therefore I will cast you out of this land into a land which you do not know, neither you nor your fathers; there you shall serve other gods day and night; and I will have no compassion upon you.

14 Now, behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when it shall no more be said, The LORD lives who brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;

15 But, the LORD lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north and from all the lands where I had driven them; and I will bring them again into their land which I gave to their fathers.

16 Behold, I will send for many fishers, says the LORD, and they shall fish them from islands; and afterward I will send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain and from every hill and out of the holes of the rocks.

17 For my eyes are upon all their ways; they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquity hid from my eyes.

18 And first I will doubly recompense them for their iniquities and their sins; because they have defiled my land with burnt offerings of their idols and have filled my inheritance with their abominations.

19 O LORD, my strength and my helper and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come to thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely the idols of falsehood which our fathers have inherited are nothing, and there is no profit in them.

20 Behold, men make gods to themselves, and they are no gods.

21 Therefore, behold, I will show them, and at this time I will make known to them my hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is the LORD.
