Chapter 39

1 And Joseph3130 was brought down3381 to Egypt;4714 and Potiphar,6318 an officer5631 of Pharaoh,6547 captain8269 of the guard,2876 an Egyptian,376 4713 bought7069 him of the hands4480 3027 of the Ishmaelites,3459 which834 had brought him down3381 thither.8033

2 And the LORD3068 was1961 with854 Joseph,3130 and he was1961 a prosperous6743 man;376 and he was1961 in the house1004 of his master113 the Egyptian.4713

3 And his master113 saw7200 that3588 the LORD3068 was with854 him, and that the LORD3068 made all3605 that834 he1931 did6213 to prosper6743 in his hand.3027

4 And Joseph3130 found4672 grace2580 in his sight,5869 and he served8334 him: and he made him overseer6485 over5921 his house,1004 and all3605 that he had3426 he put5414 into his hand.3027

5 And it came to pass1961 from the time4480 227 that he had made him overseer6485 853 in his house,1004 and over5921 all3605 that834 he had,3426 that the LORD3068 blessed1288 853 the Egyptian's4713 house1004 for Joseph's sake;1558 3130 and the blessing1293 of the LORD3068 was1961 upon all3605 that834 he had3426 in the house,1004 and in the field.7704

6 And he left5800 all3605 that834 he had in Joseph's3130 hand;3027 and he knew3045 not3808 aught3972 he had,854 save3588 518 the bread3899 which834 he1931 did eat.398 And Joseph3130 was1961 a goodly3303 8389 person, and well3303 favored.4758

7 And it came to pass1961 after310 these428 things,1697 that his master's113 wife802 cast5375 853 her eyes5869 upon413 Joseph;3130 and she said,559 Lie7901 with5973 me.

8 But he refused,3985 and said559 unto413 his master's113 wife,802 Behold,2005 my master113 knoweth3045 not3808 what4100 is with854 me in the house,1004 and he hath committed5414 all3605 that834 he hath3426 to my hand;3027

9 There is none369 greater1419 in this2088 house1004 than4480 I; neither3808 hath he kept back2820 any thing3972 from4480 me but3588 518 thee, because834 thou859 art his wife:802 how349 then can I do6213 this2063 great1419 wickedness,7451 and sin2398 against God?430

10 And it came to pass,1961 as she spoke1696 to413 Joseph3130 day3117 by day,3117 that he hearkened8085 not3808 unto413 her, to lie7901 by681 her, or to be1961 with5973 her.

11 And it came to pass1961 about this2088 time,3117 that Joseph went935 into the house1004 to do6213 his business;4399 and there was none369 376 of the men4480 376 of the house1004 there8033 within.1004

12 And she caught8610 him by his garment,899 saying,559 Lie7901 with5973 me: and he left5800 his garment899 in her hand,3027 and fled,5127 and got3318 him out.2351

13 And it came to pass,1961 when she saw7200 that3588 he had left5800 his garment899 in her hand,3027 and was fled5127 forth,2351

14 That she called7121 unto the men376 of her house,1004 and spoke559 unto them, saying,559 See,7200 he hath brought in935 a Hebrew376 5680 unto us to mock6711 us; he came in935 unto413 me to lie7901 with5973 me, and I cried7121 with a loud1419 voice: 6963

15 And it came to pass,1961 when he heard8085 that3588 I lifted up7311 my voice6963 and cried,7121 that he left5800 his garment899 with681 me, and fled,5127 and got3318 him out.2351

16 And she laid up5117 his garment899 by681 her, until5704 his lord113 came935 413 home.1004

17 And she spoke1696 unto413 him according to these428 words,1697 saying,559 The Hebrew5680 servant,5650 which834 thou hast brought935 unto us, came in935 unto413 me to mock6711 me:

18 And it came to pass,1961 as I lifted up7311 my voice6963 and cried,7121 that he left5800 his garment899 with681 me, and fled5127 out.2351

19 And it came to pass,1961 when his master113 heard8085 853 the words1697 of his wife,802 which834 she spoke1696 unto413 him, saying,559 After this428 manner1697 did6213 thy servant5650 to me; that his wrath639 was kindled.2734

20 And Joseph's3130 master113 took3947 him, and put5414 him into413 the prison,1004 5470 a place4725 where834 the king's4428 prisoners615 were bound:631 and he was1961 there8033 in the prison.1004 5470

21 But the LORD3068 was1961 with854 Joseph,3130 and showed5186 413 him mercy,2617 and gave5414 him favor2580 in the sight5869 of the keeper8269 of the prison.1004 5470

22 And the keeper8269 of the prison1004 5470 committed5414 to Joseph's3130 hand3027 853 all3605 the prisoners615 that834 were in the prison;1004 5470 and whatsoever3605 834 they did6213 there,8033 he1931 was1961 the doer6213 of it.

23 The keeper8269 of the prison1004 5470 looked7200 not369 to853 any thing3605 3972 that was under his hand;3027 because834 the LORD3068 was with854 him, and that which834 he1931 did,6213 the LORD3068 made it to prosper.6743

Chapter 39

1 AND Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, commander of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the Arabians who had brought him down there.

2 And the LORD was with Joseph, and he became a prosperous man in the house of his master, the Egyptian.

3 And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper under his hands.

4 And Joseph found favor in his sight, and served him; and he made him steward of his house, and all that he had he put in his charge.

5 And it came to pass from the time that he had made him steward of his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had both in the house and in the field.

6 And he left all that he had in Joseph's charge; and he did not know what he had, except the food that he ate. And Joseph was very handsome and pleasant to look at.

7 And it came to pass after these things that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said to him, Lie with me.

8 But he refused, and said to his master's wife, Behold, my master does not know what he has in the house, and he has put everything that he has in my charge;

9 There is no one greater in this house than I; neither has he kept back anything from me except yourself, because you are his wife; how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?

10 And it came to pass, as she spoke to him daily, he did not listen to her, to lie with her, or to be with her.

11 And it came to pass one day that Joseph went in to the house to do his work; and none of the men of the household were there in the house.

12 And she caught him by his garment, and said to him, Lie with me; but he left the garment in her hands, and fled, and got out to the street.

13 And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hands, and had fled out to the street,

14 She called to the men of her household, and said to them, See, he has brought in a Hebrew servant to us to disgrace us; he came in to me to lie with me, and I cried out with a loud voice;

15 And when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried aloud, he left his garment in my hands, and fled, and got out to the street.

16 And she laid up his garment by her, until his master came home.

17 And she spoke to him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant whom you brought to us, came in to disgrace me;

18 But as I lifted up my voice and cried aloud, he left his garment in my hands, and fled, and got out to the street.

19 And when the master heard the words of his wife, which she spoke to him, saying, After this manner did your servant to me; his wrath was kindled.

20 And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were confined; and he remained there in the prison.

21 But the LORD was with Joseph, and showed him mercy, and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

22 And the keeper of the prison intrusted to Joseph's care all the prisoners who were in the prison; and he was in charge of whatever they did there.

23 The keeper of the prison did not look to anything that was in Joseph's charge, because the LORD was with him, and whatever he did, the LORD made it to prosper.
