1 But now6258 they that are younger6810 3117 than I have me in derision,7832 whose834 fathers1 I would have disdained3988 to have set7896 with the dogs3611 of my flock.6629

2 Yes,1571 whereto4100 might the strength3581 of their hands3027 profit me, in whom5921 old age3624 was perished?6

3 For want2639 and famine3720 they were solitary;1565 fleeing6207 into the wilderness6723 in former570 time570 desolate7722 and waste.4875

4 Who cut6998 up mallows4408 by the bushes,7880 and juniper7574 roots8328 for their meat.3899

5 They were driven1644 forth from among1460 men, (they cried7321 after5921 them as after a thief;1590)

6 To dwell7931 in the cliffs6178 of the valleys,5158 in caves2356 of the earth,6083 and in the rocks.3710

7 Among996 the bushes7880 they brayed;5101 under8478 the nettles2738 they were gathered5596 together.

8 They were children1121 of fools,5036 yes,1571 children1121 of base1097 8034 men: they were viler5217 than4480 the earth.776

1 А теперь они надо мной смеются – те, кто младше меня,чьих отцов я бы погнушался поместить с собаками при моих стадах.

2 И к чему мне сила их рук, если в них истощилась мощь?

3 Нищетой и голодом изнурены, бродят они в опалённой земле, в разорённом краю, во мраке.

4 У кустов собирают горькие травы, и корни дрока – их еда. .

5 Гонят их из среды людей и, как ворам, кричат им вслед.

6 Им велят селиться в оврагах долин, среди скал и в расщелинах земли.

7 Воют они среди зарослей и жмутся друг к другу под тёрном.

8 Отверженный, безымянный сброд, изгнанный из страны.

9 А теперь они песней меня язвят, посмешищем для них я стал.

10 Гнушаются меня, избегают меня и в лицо мне плевать не стыдятся.

11 Всевышний сделал меня слабым и беспомощным, и они распоясались предо мной.

12 Эти отродья нападают на меня с правого боку, гоняют меня с места на место и на погибель мне готовят осаду.

13 Заграждают мне путь; всё творят на беду мне – и никто их не сдерживает. .

14 Как сквозь брешь на меня идут, всё круша, на меня бросаются.

15 Ужасы ринулись на меня; моя слава развеяна, точно ветром, и уплыло, как облако, благоденствие.

16 И теперь угасает во мне моя жизнь; обступили меня дни скорби.

17 Ночью ноют кости мои; боль меня гложет, не зная покоя.

18 Всевышний хватает одежду мою неистово; Он давит меня, как воротник рубахи.

19 В грязь поверг Он меня, я стал как прах и пепел.

20 Я зову Тебя, о Всевышний, но нет ответа; встаю, но Ты лишь смотришь на меня.

21 Ты безжалостным стал ко мне; мощью руки Своей гонишь меня.

22 Ты подхватил, помчал меня в вихре; Ты швыряешь меня прямо в рокочущую бурю.

23 Я знаю: Ты к смерти меня ведёшь, в дом, уготованный всем живущим.

24 О, никто не поднимет руку на бедняка, когда тот зовёт на помощь в своём несчастье!

25 Не плакал ли я о тех, кто в беде? Разве о бедных душа моя не скорбела?

26 Но когда я ждал добра, пришло зло; уповал я на свет, но настала тьма.

27 Сердце тревогой объято, покоя не ведает; для меня настали дни скорби.

28 Хожу почерневший, но не от солнца; встаю перед людьми и взываю о помощи.

29 Я теперь брат шакалам и друг совам.

30 Кожа моя чернеет и шелушится; в лихорадке горит тело.

31 На плач настроена моя арфа, и свирель моя – на напев печальный.
