Chapter 2

1 IN the seventh month, on the twenty-first day of the month, the word of the LORD came by the prophet Haggai, saying,

2 Speak now to Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua, the son of Josedech, the high priest, and to all the rest of the people, saying,

3 Who is left among you that saw this house in its former glory? And how do you see it now? Is it not now in your sight considered as nothing?

4 Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, says the LORD; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest; and be strong, all you people of the land, says the LORD, and work; for I am with you, says the LORD of hosts.

5 According to the covenant which I made with you when you came out of Egypt, so my spirit remains among you; fear not.

6 For thus says the LORD of hosts: Once more, in a little while, I will shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land;

7 And I will shake all nations, and they shall bring the precious things of all nations; and I will fill the house with glory, says the LORD of hosts.

8 The silver is mine and the gold is mine, says the LORD of hosts.

9 The glory of this latter house shall be greater than that of the former, says the LORD of hosts; and in this place will I give peace, says the LORD of hosts.

10 On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying,

11 Thus says the LORD of hosts: Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying,

12 If a man carries holy meat in the skirt of his cloak, and touches with his skirt bread or pottage or wine or oil or any kind of food, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No.

13 Then said Haggai, If one who is unclean touches all these things, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean.

14 Then answered Haggai and said, So is this people and so is this generation before me, says the LORD; and so is every work of their hands; and what they offer there is unclean.

15 And now, consider in your hearts, from this day upward, before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the LORD;

16 When you came to a heap of grain of twenty measures, there were but ten; when you came to the wine press to draw out fifty vessels, there were but twenty.

17 I smote you with blight and with mildew and with hail in all the labor of your hands; yet you turned not to me, says the LORD.

18 Subdue your hearts from this day and upward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the LORD'S temple was laid, consider it.

19 Consider now in your hearts, for there is no grain for the seed in the threshing floor, and the vine, and as yet the fig tree and the pomegranate and the olive trees have not brought forth; from this day I will bless them, says the LORD.

20 And again the word of the LORD came to Haggai, on the twenty-fourth day of the month, saying,

21 Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and the earth;

22 And I will overthrow the throne of the kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the Gentiles; and I will upset the chariots over their riders; and the horses and the riders shall fall down, every one by the sword of his brother.

23 On that day, says the LORD of hosts, I will take you, O Zerubbabel, my servant, the son of Shealtiel, says the LORD, and I will make you as a signet; for I have chosen you, says the LORD of hosts.

4 Но ободрись2388 ныне, Зоровавель,2216 говорит5002 Господь,3068 ободрись,2388 Иисус,3091 сын1121 Иоседеков,3087 великий1419 иерей!3548 ободрись,2388 весь народ5971 земли,776 говорит5002 Господь,3068 и производите работы,6213 ибо Я с вами, говорит5002 Господь3068 Саваоф.6635

5 Завет1697 Мой, который Я заключил3772 с вами при исшествии3318 вашем из Египта,4714 и дух7307 Мой пребывает5975 среди8432 вас: не бойтесь!3372

12 если бы кто376 нес5375 освященное6944 мясо1320 в поле3671 одежды899 своей и полою3671 своею коснулся5060 хлеба,3899 или чего-либо вареного,5138 или вина,3196 или елея,8081 или какой-нибудь пищи:3978 сделается6942 ли это священным?6942 И отвечали6030 священники3548 и сказали:559 нет.

13 Потом сказал559 Аггей:2292 а если прикоснется5060 ко всему этому кто-либо, осквернившийся2931 от прикосновения к мертвецу:5315 сделается2930 ли это нечистым?2930 И отвечали6030 священники3548 и сказали:559 будет2930 нечистым.2930

14 Тогда отвечал6030 Аггей2292 и сказал:559 таков этот народ,5971 таково это племя1471 предо3942 Мною, говорит5002 Господь,3068 и таковы все дела4639 рук3027 их! И что они приносят7126 там, все нечисто.2931

15 Теперь обратите7760 сердце3824 ваше на время от сего дня3117 и назад,4605 когда еще2962 не2962 был7760 положен7760 камень68 на камень68 в храме1964 Господнем.3068

16 Приходили935 бывало к копне,6194 могущей приносить двадцать6242 мер, и оказывалось только десять;6235 приходили935 к подточилию,3342 чтобы начерпать2834 пятьдесят2572 мер из подточилия,6333 а оказывалось только двадцать.6242

17 Поражал5221 Я вас ржавчиною7711 и блеклостью3420 хлеба и градом1259 все труды4639 рук3027 ваших; но вы не обращались ко Мне, говорит5002 Господь.3068

18 Обратите7760 же сердце3824 ваше на время от сего дня3117 и назад,4605 от двадцать702 четвертого6242 дня3117 девятого8671 месяца, от того дня,3117 когда основан3245 был храм1964 Господень;3068 обратите7760 сердце3824 ваше:

19 есть ли еще в житницах4035 семена?2233 Доселе ни виноградная1612 лоза,1612 ни смоковница,8384 ни гранатовое7416 дерево,7416 ни маслина21326086 не давали5375 плода;5375 а от сего дня3117 Я благословлю1288 их.

20 И было слово1697 Господне3068 к Аггею2292 вторично8145 в двадцать6242 четвертый702 день месяца,2320 и сказано:559

22 и ниспровергну2015 престолы3678 царств,4467 и истреблю8045 силу2392 царств4467 языческих,1471 опрокину2015 колесницы4818 и сидящих7392 на них, и низринуты3381 будут3381 кони5483 и всадники7392 их, один376 мечом2719 другого.251

16 When you came to a heap of grain of twenty measures, there were but ten; when you came to the wine press to draw out fifty vessels, there were but twenty.
