Chapter 4

1 AND Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bore Cain, and said, I have gotten a man for the LORD.

2 And she again bore his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

3 And in the course of time it came to pass that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering to the LORD.

4 And Abel also brought of the first-born of his flock and of the fatlings thereof. And the LORD was pleased with Abel and with his offering;

5 But with Cain and with his offering he was not pleased. So Cain was exceedingly displeased, and his countenance was sad.

6 And the LORD said to Cain, Why are you displeased? and why is your countenance sad?

7 Behold, if you do well, shall you not be accepted? and if you do not well, sin lies at the door. You should return to your brother, and he shall be subject to you.

8 And Cain said to Abel his brother, Let us go to the plain; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

9 And the LORD said to Cain, Where is Abel your brother? And he said, I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper?

10 And the LORD said, What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries to me from the ground.

11 And from henceforth, you are cursed from the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand;

12 When you till the ground, it shall no more yield to you its strength; a fugitive and a wanderer shall you be on the earth.

13 And Cain said to the LORD, My transgression is too great to be forgiven.

14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the land; and from thy face shall I be hidden; and I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth; and it shall come to pass, that whoever finds me shall slay me.

15 And the LORD said to him, It shall not be so; whoever slays Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, so that anyone who may find him may not kill him.

16 And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.

17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bore Enoch; and he started to build a village, and named the village after the name of his son, Enoch.

18 And to Enoch was born Irad; and Irad begot Mehujael; and Mehujael begot Methusael: and Methusael begot Lamech.

19 And Lamech took two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.

20 And Adah bore Jabal, who was the father of those who dwell in tents, and are owners of cattle.

21 And his brother's name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who play the guitar and harp.

22 And Zillah also bore Tubal-cain, a craftsman in every work of brass and iron; and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.

23 And Lamech said to his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; you wives of Lamech, hearken to my speech; for I have killed a man by wounding him, and a boy by beating him.

24 For if Cain is to be avenged sevenfold, then Lamech seventy and sevenfold.

25 And Adam knew his wife Eve again; and she conceived and bore a son, and called his name Seth; For God, she said, has given me another offspring instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.

26 And to Seth also there was born a son; and he called his name Enosh. Then men began to call upon the name of the LORD.

4 и Авель1893 также1931 принес935 от первородных1062 стада6629 своего и от тука2459 их. И призрел8159 Господь3068 на Авеля1893 и на дар4503 его,

5 а на Каина7014 и на дар4503 его не8159 призрел.8159 Каин7014 сильно3966 огорчился,2734 и поникло5307 лице6440 его.

6 И сказал559 Господь3068 Каину:7014 почему ты огорчился?2734 и отчего поникло5307 лице6440 твое?

7 если518 делаешь3190 доброе,3190 то не поднимаешь7613 ли лица? а если не делаешь3190 доброго,3190 то у дверей6607 грех2403 лежит;7257 он влечет8669 тебя к себе, но ты господствуй4910 над ним.

8 И сказал559 Каин7014 Авелю,4131893 брату251 своему. И когда они были в поле,7704 восстал6965 Каин7014 на413 Авеля,1893 брата251 своего, и убил2026 его.

9 И сказал559 Господь3068 Каину:7014 где335 Авель,1893 брат251 твой? Он сказал:559 не знаю;3045 разве я сторож8104 брату251 моему?

10 И сказал:559 что́4100 ты сделал?6213 голос6963 крови1818 брата251 твоего вопиет6817 ко Мне от земли;127

11 и ныне проклят779 ты от земли,127 которая отверзла6475 уста6310 свои принять3947 кровь1818 брата251 твоего от руки3027 твоей;

12 когда3588 ты будешь5647 возделывать5647 землю,127 она не станет3254 более давать5414 силы3581 своей для тебя; ты будешь5128 изгнанником5128 и скитальцем5110 на земле.776

13 И сказал559 Каин7014 Господу:3068 наказание5771 мое больше,1419 нежели снести5375 можно;

14 вот, Ты теперь3117 сгоняешь1644 меня с лица6440 земли,127 и от5921 лица6440 Твоего я скроюсь,5641 и буду5128 изгнанником5128 и скитальцем5110 на земле;776 и всякий, кто встретится4672 со мною, убьет2026 меня.

15 И сказал559 ему Господь:3068 за то3651 всякому, кто убьет2026 Каина,7014 отмстится5358 всемеро.7659 И сделал7760 Господь3068 Каину7014 знамение,226 чтобы1115 никто, встретившись4672 с ним, не убил5221 его.

16 И пошел3318 Каин7014 от лица6440 Господня3068 и поселился3427 в земле776 Нод,5113 на восток6926 от Едема.5731

17 И познал3045 Каин7014 жену802 свою; и она зачала2029 и родила3205 Еноха.2585 И построил1129 он город;5892 и назвал7121 город5892 по имени8034 сына1121 своего: Енох.2585

20 Ада5711 родила3205 Иавала:2989 он был отец1 живущих3427 в шатрах168 со стадами.4735

21 Имя8034 брату251 его Иувал:3106 он был отец1 всех играющих8610 на гуслях3658 и свирели.5748

7 Behold, if you do well, shall you not be accepted? and if you do not well, sin lies at the door. You should return to your brother, and he shall be subject to you.

7 если518 делаешь3190 доброе,3190 то не поднимаешь7613 ли лица? а если не делаешь3190 доброго,3190 то у дверей6607 грех2403 лежит;7257 он влечет8669 тебя к себе, но ты господствуй4910 над ним.

8 And Cain said to Abel his brother, Let us go to the plain; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

9 And the LORD said to Cain, Where is Abel your brother? And he said, I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper?

10 And the LORD said, What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries to me from the ground.

15 And the LORD said to him, It shall not be so; whoever slays Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, so that anyone who may find him may not kill him.

15 И сказал559 ему Господь:3068 за то3651 всякому, кто убьет2026 Каина,7014 отмстится5358 всемеро.7659 И сделал7760 Господь3068 Каину7014 знамение,226 чтобы1115 никто, встретившись4672 с ним, не убил5221 его.

16 And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
