Chapter 4

1 AND the children of Israel again did evil in the sight of the LORD, after Ehur was dead.

2 And the LORD delivered them into the hand of Nabin king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor; the general of whose army was Sisera, who dwelt in Harosheth of the Gentiles.

3 And the children of Israel cried to the LORD; for he had nine hundred chariots of iron, and oppressed the children of Israel for twenty years.

4 And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapithor, judged Israel at that time.

5 And Deborah dwelt under the palm tree between Ramtha and Beth-el on mount Ephraim; and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.

6 And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam from Rakim of Naphtali, and said to him, Has not the LORD God of Israel commanded you, saying, Go and dwell on mount Tabor, and take with you ten thousand men from the children of Naphtali and from the children of Zebulun?

7 And let them come with you to the river Kishon against Sisera, the general of Nabin's army, and against his chariots, and against his forces; and I will deliver him into your hands.

8 And Barak said to her, If you will go with me, then I will go; but if you will not go with me, then I will not go.

9 And she said, I will surely go with you; nevertheless you shall not glory on account of the journey which you are taking; for the LORD shall deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman. And Deborah arose and went with Barak to Rakim.

10 And Barak mobilized Zebulun and Naphtali to Rakim; and ten thousand men went up with him; and Deborah also went up with him.

11 Now Heber the Kenite had left the Kenites, the descendants of Hobab the father-in-law of Moses, and had pitched his tent as far as the oak which is in Zaanaim, which is by Rakim.

12 And they told Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam had gone up to mount Tabor.

13 And Sisera gathered together all of his chariots, nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people that were with him, from Harosheth of the Gentiles as far as the river of Kishon.

14 And Deborah said to Barak, Arise, for this is the day in which the LORD has delivered Sisera into your hands; behold, the LORD is going out before you. So Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men with him.

15 And the LORD defeated Sisera and all his chariots and all his army, with the edge of the sword before Barak; so that Sisera alighted from his chariot and fled on foot.

16 But Barak pursued his chariots and his army as far as Harosheth of the Gentiles; and all the army of Sisera fell by the edge of the sword; and not a man escaped.

17 However, Sisera fled on foot, and entered the tent of Anael the wife of Heber the Kenite, because there was peace between Nabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.

18 And Anael went out to meet Sisera, and said to him, Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; fear not. And he went in to her into the tent, and she covered him with a rug.

19 And he said to her, Give me a little water to drink; for I am thirsty. And she untied the milkskin and gave him a drink and covered him.

20 Again he said to her, Stand at the door of the tent, and if any man does come and ask you, and say, Is there any man here? You shall say to him, No.

21 Then Anael, Heber's wife, got a tent peg, and took a hammer in her hand and went to him as he was sleeping, and drove the peg into his temples, and pounded it into the ground while he was fast asleep, and he shivered and died.

22 And, behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Anael went out to meet him and said to him, Come, and I will show you the man whom you seek. And he went into her tent, and, behold, Sisera lay dead, and the peg was through his temples.

23 So on that day God defeated Nabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel.

24 And the hand of the children of Israel prospered and prevailed against Nabin the king of Canaan until they slew Nabin king of Canaan.

2 Тогда ГОСПОДЬ предал их в руки Явина, царя ханаанского, что правил в Хацоре. Военачальником его был Сисера, живший в Харошет-Хаггойиме.

3 Было у Явина девятьсот колесниц, окованных железом, и он двадцать лет жестоко угнетал израильтян. И возопили израильтяне о помощи к ГОСПОДУ.

4 Судьей в Израиле в ту пору была пророчица Девора, жена Лаппидота.

5 Израильтяне приходили к ней за судом, и она разбирала их тяжбы, сидя под пальмой Деворы, между Рамой и Бет-Элем, на Ефремовом нагорье.

6 Она отправила вестника к Вараку, сыну Авиноама, что из Кедеша в земле Неффалима, с таким вопросом: «Не повелел ли тебе ГОСПОДЬ, Бог Израилев: „Взойди на гору Фавор и с собой возьми десять тысяч воинов из колен Неффалима и Завулона,

7 а Я приведу к потоку Кишон Сисеру, военачальника Явина, и предам его в твои руки со всеми его колесницами и воинами“?»

8 Варак ответил ей: «Если ты пойдешь вместе со мной, то пойду и я, а если нет, то и я не пойду».

9 Она ответила ему на это: «Я пойду вместе с тобой, но тогда не тебе принесет славу этот поход, в который ты выступаешь, — предаст ГОСПОДЬ Сисеру в руки женщины». И Девора отправилась с Вараком в Кедеш.

10 Варак призвал в Кедеш воинов из колена Завулона и Неффалима, и десять тысяч воинов выступили с ним. Девора тоже отправилась с ним.

11 Тогда же Хевер-кеней, отделившийся от рода Каина (потомков из рода Ховава, шурина Моисея), разбил свой стан у дуба, что в Цаананниме, возле Кедеша.

12 И возвестили Сисере, что Варак, сын Авиноама, взошел на гору Фавор.

13 Собрал Сисера все свои колесницы — девятьсот колесниц, окованных железом, — и отправился с войском из Харошет-Хаггойима к потоку Кишон.

14 А Девора сказала Вараку: «Выступай, потому что сегодня предаст ГОСПОДЬ Сисеру в твои руки! Не Сам ли ГОСПОДЬ идет впереди?» Варак спустился с горы Фавор, и с ним десять тысяч воинов.

15 А ГОСПОДЬ острием меча поверг в смятение Сисеру, со всеми его колесницами и войском, при наступлении Варака. И бросил Сисера колесницу и бежал пешим.

16 Варак гнал его со всеми его колесницами и войском до самого Харошет-Хаггойима, и пало всё его войско от меча — ни один не спасся.

17 Сам Сисера прибежал к шатру Яэли, жены Хевера-кенея: между Явином, царем Хацора, и домом Хевера-кенея был мир.

18 Вышла Яэль навстречу Сисере со словами: «Сюда, господин мой, сюда, ко мне, не бойся!» Сисера вошел к ней в шатер, и она спрятала его под покрывалом.

19 Он попросил ее: «Дай мне немного воды. Мне хочется пить!» Она развязала мех с молоком, напоила его и опять укрыла.

20 И Сисера сказал ей: «Встань у входа в шатер и, если подойдут и спросят, нет ли здесь кого, отвечай: „Нет никого“».

21 А Яэль, жена Хевера, взяла молот и колышек, из тех, что служат для установки шатра, крадучись подошла к Сисере (когда он задремал, изнуренный) и вогнала колышек ему в висок, пригвоздив голову к земле, — и он умер.

22 Когда Яэль увидела Варака, что гнался за Сисерой, она вышла ему навстречу и сказала: «Пойдем, я покажу тебе того, кого ты ищешь!» Он вошел в шатер и увидел, что Сисера лежит мертвый с колышком в виске.

23 В тот день посрамил ГОСПОДЬ Явина, царя ханаанского, перед израильтянами.

24 А израильтяне стали всё чаще одолевать Явина, царя ханаанского, пока не уничтожили его и его подданных.

2 Тогда ГОСПОДЬ предал их в руки Явина, царя ханаанского, что правил в Хацоре. Военачальником его был Сисера, живший в Харошет-Хаггойиме.

3 And the children of Israel cried to the LORD; for he had nine hundred chariots of iron, and oppressed the children of Israel for twenty years.

3 Было у Явина девятьсот колесниц, окованных железом, и он двадцать лет жестоко угнетал израильтян. И возопили израильтяне о помощи к ГОСПОДУ.

4 And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapithor, judged Israel at that time.

4 Судьей в Израиле в ту пору была пророчица Девора, жена Лаппидота.

5 And Deborah dwelt under the palm tree between Ramtha and Beth-el on mount Ephraim; and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.

5 Израильтяне приходили к ней за судом, и она разбирала их тяжбы, сидя под пальмой Деворы, между Рамой и Бет-Элем, на Ефремовом нагорье.

6 And she sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam from Rakim of Naphtali, and said to him, Has not the LORD God of Israel commanded you, saying, Go and dwell on mount Tabor, and take with you ten thousand men from the children of Naphtali and from the children of Zebulun?

6 Она отправила вестника к Вараку, сыну Авиноама, что из Кедеша в земле Неффалима, с таким вопросом: «Не повелел ли тебе ГОСПОДЬ, Бог Израилев: „Взойди на гору Фавор и с собой возьми десять тысяч воинов из колен Неффалима и Завулона,

7 And let them come with you to the river Kishon against Sisera, the general of Nabin's army, and against his chariots, and against his forces; and I will deliver him into your hands.

7 а Я приведу к потоку Кишон Сисеру, военачальника Явина, и предам его в твои руки со всеми его колесницами и воинами“?»

8 And Barak said to her, If you will go with me, then I will go; but if you will not go with me, then I will not go.

8 Варак ответил ей: «Если ты пойдешь вместе со мной, то пойду и я, а если нет, то и я не пойду».

9 And she said, I will surely go with you; nevertheless you shall not glory on account of the journey which you are taking; for the LORD shall deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman. And Deborah arose and went with Barak to Rakim.

9 Она ответила ему на это: «Я пойду вместе с тобой, но тогда не тебе принесет славу этот поход, в который ты выступаешь, — предаст ГОСПОДЬ Сисеру в руки женщины». И Девора отправилась с Вараком в Кедеш.

10 And Barak mobilized Zebulun and Naphtali to Rakim; and ten thousand men went up with him; and Deborah also went up with him.

10 Варак призвал в Кедеш воинов из колена Завулона и Неффалима, и десять тысяч воинов выступили с ним. Девора тоже отправилась с ним.

11 Now Heber the Kenite had left the Kenites, the descendants of Hobab the father-in-law of Moses, and had pitched his tent as far as the oak which is in Zaanaim, which is by Rakim.

11 Тогда же Хевер-кеней, отделившийся от рода Каина (потомков из рода Ховава, шурина Моисея), разбил свой стан у дуба, что в Цаананниме, возле Кедеша.

12 And they told Sisera that Barak the son of Abinoam had gone up to mount Tabor.

12 И возвестили Сисере, что Варак, сын Авиноама, взошел на гору Фавор.

13 And Sisera gathered together all of his chariots, nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people that were with him, from Harosheth of the Gentiles as far as the river of Kishon.

13 Собрал Сисера все свои колесницы — девятьсот колесниц, окованных железом, — и отправился с войском из Харошет-Хаггойима к потоку Кишон.

14 And Deborah said to Barak, Arise, for this is the day in which the LORD has delivered Sisera into your hands; behold, the LORD is going out before you. So Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men with him.

14 А Девора сказала Вараку: «Выступай, потому что сегодня предаст ГОСПОДЬ Сисеру в твои руки! Не Сам ли ГОСПОДЬ идет впереди?» Варак спустился с горы Фавор, и с ним десять тысяч воинов.

15 And the LORD defeated Sisera and all his chariots and all his army, with the edge of the sword before Barak; so that Sisera alighted from his chariot and fled on foot.

15 А ГОСПОДЬ острием меча поверг в смятение Сисеру, со всеми его колесницами и войском, при наступлении Варака. И бросил Сисера колесницу и бежал пешим.

16 But Barak pursued his chariots and his army as far as Harosheth of the Gentiles; and all the army of Sisera fell by the edge of the sword; and not a man escaped.

16 Варак гнал его со всеми его колесницами и войском до самого Харошет-Хаггойима, и пало всё его войско от меча — ни один не спасся.

17 However, Sisera fled on foot, and entered the tent of Anael the wife of Heber the Kenite, because there was peace between Nabin the king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite.

17 Сам Сисера прибежал к шатру Яэли, жены Хевера-кенея: между Явином, царем Хацора, и домом Хевера-кенея был мир.

18 And Anael went out to meet Sisera, and said to him, Turn in, my lord, turn in to me; fear not. And he went in to her into the tent, and she covered him with a rug.

18 Вышла Яэль навстречу Сисере со словами: «Сюда, господин мой, сюда, ко мне, не бойся!» Сисера вошел к ней в шатер, и она спрятала его под покрывалом.

19 Он попросил ее: «Дай мне немного воды. Мне хочется пить!» Она развязала мех с молоком, напоила его и опять укрыла.

20 И Сисера сказал ей: «Встань у входа в шатер и, если подойдут и спросят, нет ли здесь кого, отвечай: „Нет никого“».

22 And, behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Anael went out to meet him and said to him, Come, and I will show you the man whom you seek. And he went into her tent, and, behold, Sisera lay dead, and the peg was through his temples.

22 Когда Яэль увидела Варака, что гнался за Сисерой, она вышла ему навстречу и сказала: «Пойдем, я покажу тебе того, кого ты ищешь!» Он вошел в шатер и увидел, что Сисера лежит мертвый с колышком в виске.

23 So on that day God defeated Nabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel.

23 В тот день посрамил ГОСПОДЬ Явина, царя ханаанского, перед израильтянами.

24 And the hand of the children of Israel prospered and prevailed against Nabin the king of Canaan until they slew Nabin king of Canaan.

24 А израильтяне стали всё чаще одолевать Явина, царя ханаанского, пока не уничтожили его и его подданных.
