2 чтобы постигать мудрость, внимать наставлениям и понимать глубокомысленные изречения,

3 чтобы учиться правилам благоразумия, праведности, справедливости и честности.

4 Помочь людям простым обрести проницательность, а юношам — знание и рассудительность.

5 Мудрый послушает — и приумножит ученость свою, и разумный найдет ценный совет,

6 чтобы понимать притчи и иносказания, изречения мудрецов и их загадки.

7 Начало всякого познания — благоговение пред ГОСПОДОМ; глупец же презирает мудрость и наставление.

8 Сын мой! Наставленье отца своего слушай, не отвергай того, чему учила тебя матушка:

9 слова их — прекрасный венок для головы твоей, ожерелье — для твоей шеи.

10 Сын мой! Если станут уговаривать тебя на худое разбойники, не соглашайся!

11 Скажут они: «Пойдем с нами, притаимся в засаде, чтобы кровь пролить, без причины подстережем невиновных.

12 Поглотим их живьем, как Шеол, целиком — как покойников могила.

13 Награбим себе драгоценностей всяких, дома наполним добычей,

14 Бросай жребий вместе с нами, общая будет у нас казна!»

15 Сын мой! Не ходи их дорогой, не вступай на их путь!

16 Потому что ноги их к злу устремляются, спешат пролить кровь.

17 Напрасно сеть расставлять на виду у крылатых птиц —

18 но разбойники на свою погибель таятся в засаде, самих себя они погубят!

19 Таков удел всякого, кто алчен до наживы: жизнью расплатится тот, кто завладел чужим.

20 Премудрость на улицах вопиет, на площадях громко звучит ее голос,

21 на людных перекрестках взывает, у ворот городских держит речь:

22 «Наивные вы люди! Долго ли вы будете тешить себя собственной наивностью? Долго ли кощунники будут упиваться кощунством, а глупые — ненавидеть знание?

23 Обернитесь и прислушайтесь к обличениям моим! И тогда я изолью на вас дух свой, поделюсь с вами словом своим!

24 Ведь я звала — вы противились мне, протягивала руку — не замечали.

25 Вы отвергали мои советы, не принимали моих обличений.

26 Вот теперь и я посмеюсь над вашим несчастьем, позлорадствую, когда ужас поразит вас!

27 Как ураган, обрушится на вас ужас, как вихрь, нагрянет несчастье, и придет скорбь и страдание.

28 Тогда будут звать меня — не откликнусь, будут разыскивать — не отыщут.

29 Потому что знание они возненавидели и не избрали путь благоговения пред ГОСПОДОМ,

30 совету моему не вняли и с презрением отвергли обличения мои.

31 Они будут пожинать плоды своих поступков, злыми замыслами своими насытятся.

32 Потому своенравие погубит невежд и самодовольство приведет глупых к гибели.

33 Но тот, кто внимает мне, будет жить в безопасности, не страшась беды».
