Psalm 44

1 To the chief5329 Musician5329 for the sons1121 of Korah,7141 Maschil.4905 We have heard8085 with our ears,241 O God,430 our fathers1 have told5608 us, what work6467 you did6466 in their days,3117 in the times3117 of old.6924

2 How you did drive3423 out the heathen1471 with your hand,3027 and planted5193 them; how you did afflict7489 the people,3816 and cast7971 them out.

3 For they got3423 not the land776 in possession3423 by their own sword,2719 neither3808 did their own arm2220 save3467 them: but your right3225 hand,3225 and your arm,2220 and the light216 of your countenance,6440 because3588 you had a favor7522 to them.

4 You are my King,4428 O God:430 command6680 deliverances3444 for Jacob.3290

5 Through you will we push5055 down our enemies:6862 through your name8034 will we tread947 them under that rise6965 up against us.

6 For I will not trust982 in my bow,7198 neither3808 shall my sword2719 save3467 me.

7 But you have saved3467 us from our enemies,6862 and have put them to shame954 that hated8130 us.

8 In God430 we boast1984 all3605 the day3117 long, and praise3034 your name8034 for ever.5769 Selah.5542

9 But you have cast2186 off, and put us to shame;3637 and go3318 not forth3318 with our armies.6635

10 You make us to turn7725 back268 from the enemy:6862 and they which hate8130 us spoil8154 for themselves.

11 You have given5414 us like sheep6629 appointed for meat;3978 and have scattered2219 us among the heathen.1471

12 You sell4376 your people5971 for nothing,3808 1952 and do not increase7235 your wealth by their price.4242

13 You make6213 us a reproach2781 to our neighbors,7934 a scorn3933 and a derision7047 to them that are round5439 about us.

14 You make6213 us a byword4912 among the heathen,1471 a shaking4493 of the head7218 among the people.3816

15 My confusion3639 is continually3117 before5048 me, and the shame1322 of my face6440 has covered3680 me,

16 For the voice6963 of him that reproaches2778 and blasphemes;1442 by reason6440 of the enemy341 and avenger.5358

17 All3605 this2063 is come935 on us; yet have we not forgotten7911 you, neither3808 have we dealt falsely8266 in your covenant.1285

18 Our heart3820 is not turned5472 back,268 neither have our steps838 declined5186 from your way;734

19 Though3588 you have sore broken1794 us in the place4725 of dragons,8577 and covered3680 us with the shadow6757 of death.6757

20 If518 we have forgotten7911 the name8034 of our God,430 or stretched6566 out our hands3709 to a strange2114 god;410

21 Shall not God430 search2713 this2063 out? for he knows3045 the secrets8587 of the heart.3820

22 Yes,3588 for your sake are we killed2026 all3605 the day3117 long; we are counted2803 as sheep6629 for the slaughter.2878

23 Awake,5782 why4100 sleep3462 you, O Lord?136 arise,6974 cast2186 us not off for ever.5331

24 Why4100 hide5641 you your face,6440 and forget7911 our affliction6040 and our oppression?3906

25 For our soul5315 is bowed7743 down7743 to the dust:6083 our belly990 sticks1692 to the earth.776

26 Arise6965 for our help,5833 and redeem6299 us for your mercies'2617 sake.4616

Psalm 44

1 WE have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us what work thou hast wrought in their days, in the times of old;

2 How thou didst destroy the Gentiles with thy hand, and established thy people; how thou didst vex the kingdoms, and strengthened thy people.

3 For they inherited not the land by their sword, neither did their own arm save them; but thy right hand and thine arm and the light of thy countenance, because thou wast pleased with them.

4 Thou art my King, O God; for thou commandest deliverances for Jacob.

5 Through thee will we pierce our enemies; through thy name will we tread them under that hate us.

6 For we trust not in our bows; neither on our armour to save us.

7 But thou hast saved us from those who hate us, and hast put to shame our enemies.

8 We glorify thee, O God, all the day long, and praise thy name for ever.

9 But now thou hast forsaken us and put us to shame, and goest not forth with our armies:

10 But thou makest us to be defeated; and our enemies have plundered us.

11 Thou hast sold us like sheep appointed for meat; and hast scattered us among the Gentiles.

12 Thou hast sold thy people as a bargain, and dost not profit by their exchange.

13 Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.

14 Thou makest us a byword among the Gentiles, a shaking of the head among the nations.

15 All the day long my disgrace is before me, and the shame of my face has covered me,

16 Because of the voice of him who reproaches and blasphemes; and because of the enemy that avenges.

17 All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.

18 We have not turned back, neither have we swerved our steps from thy way;

19 For thou hast humbled us a second time in the land, and covered us with the shadow of death.

20 And yet we have not forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to stranger gods;

21 God will look into this thing, for he knows the secrets of the heart.

22 Yea, for thy sake are we killed every day; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.

23 Awake and sleep not, O LORD; remember us and forsake us not.

24 Turn not thy face from us, and forget not our humiliation and our oppression;

25 For our soul is humbled down to the dust; our body touches the earth.

26 Arise to help us; redeem us for thy mercies' sake.
