Chapter 12

1 AND it came to pass when Rehoboam had established the kingdom and had strengthened himself, he forsook the law of the LORD, and all Israel with him.

2 And it came to pass that in the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had transgressed against the LORD,

3 With twelve hundred chariots and sixty thousand horsemen; and the people were without number that came with him out of Egypt; the Lubims, the Sukkiims and the Ethiopians.

4 And he took the fenced cities which pertained to Judah, and came to Jerusalem.

5 Then came Shemaiah the prophet to Rehoboam and to the princes of Judah that were gathered together at Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said unto them, Thus says the LORD: You have forsaken me, and therefore have I also left you in the hand of Shishak.

6 Whereupon the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, The LORD is righteous.

7 And when the LORD saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves; therefore I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some deliverance; and my wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.

8 Nevertheless they shall be his servants, that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.

9 So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the house of the LORD and the treasures of the king's house; he took all; he carried away also the shields of gold which Solomon had made.

10 Instead of which King Rehoboam made shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the chief of the guard that kept the entrance of the king's house.

11 And when the king entered into the house of the LORD, the guard came and fetched them, and brought them again into the guard chamber.

12 And when he humbled himself, the wrath of the LORD turned from him, that he would not destroy him altogether; and also in Judah things went well.

13 So King Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned; for Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel to put his name there. And his mother's name was Naamah an Ammonitess.

14 And he did evil before the LORD, for he did not prepare his heart to worship the LORD and to seek him with all his heart.

15 Now these are the acts of Rehoboam, first and last, to do evil before the LORD God of Israel. And there were wars between Rehoboam the son of Solomon and Jeroboam the son of Nebat continually.

16 And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David; and Abijah his son reigned in his stead.

2 And it came1961 to pass, that in the fifth2549 year8141 of king4428 Rehoboam7346 Shishak7895 king4428 of Egypt4714 came5927 up against5921 Jerusalem,3389 because3588 they had transgressed4603 against the LORD,3068

3 With twelve505 hundred3967 chariots,7393 and three score8346 thousand7239 505 horsemen:6571 and the people5971 were without369 number4557 that came935 with him out of Egypt;4714 the Lubims,3864 the Sukkiims,5525 and the Ethiopians.3569

4 And he took3920 the fenced4694 cities5892 which834 pertained to Judah,3063 and came935 to Jerusalem.3389

5 Then came935 Shemaiah8098 the prophet5030 to Rehoboam,7346 and to the princes8269 of Judah,3063 that were gathered622 together to Jerusalem3389 because6440 of Shishak,7895 and said559 to them, Thus3541 said559 the LORD,3068 You have forsaken5800 me, and therefore have I also left5800 you in the hand3027 of Shishak.7895

6 Whereupon the princes8269 of Israel3478 and the king4428 humbled3665 themselves; and they said,559 The LORD3068 is righteous.6662

7 And when the LORD3068 saw7200 that they humbled3665 themselves, the word1697 of the LORD3068 came1961 to Shemaiah,8098 saying,559 They have humbled3665 themselves; therefore I will not destroy7843 them, but I will grant5414 them some4592 deliverance;6413 and my wrath2534 shall not be poured5413 out on Jerusalem3389 by the hand3027 of Shishak.7895

8 Nevertheless3588 they shall be his servants;5650 that they may know3045 my service,5656 and the service5656 of the kingdoms4467 of the countries.776

9 So Shishak7895 king4428 of Egypt4714 came5927 up against5921 Jerusalem,3389 and took3947 away the treasures214 of the house1004 of the LORD,3068 and the treasures214 of the king's4428 house;1004 he took3947 all:3605 he carried3947 away also the shields4043 of gold2091 which834 Solomon8010 had made.6213

10 Instead8478 of which king4428 Rehoboam7346 made6213 shields4043 of brass,5178 and committed6485 them to the hands3027 of the chief8269 of the guard,7323 that kept8104 the entrance6607 of the king's4428 house.1004

11 And when1767 the king4428 entered935 into the house1004 of the LORD,3068 the guard7323 came935 and fetched5375 them, and brought7725 them again7725 into413 the guard7323 chamber.8372

12 And when he humbled3665 himself, the wrath639 of the LORD3068 turned7725 from him, that he would not destroy7843 him altogether:3617 and also1571 in Judah3063 things1697 went1961 well.2896

13 So king4428 Rehoboam7346 strengthened2388 himself in Jerusalem,3389 and reigned:4427 for Rehoboam7346 was one259 and forty705 years8141 old1121 when he began to reign,4427 and he reigned4427 seventeen7651 6240 years8141 in Jerusalem,3389 the city5892 which834 the LORD3068 had chosen977 out of all3605 the tribes7626 of Israel,3478 to put7760 his name8034 there.8033 And his mother's517 name8034 was Naamah5279 an Ammonitess.5984

15 Now the acts1697 of Rehoboam,7346 first7223 and last,314 are they not written3789 in the book1697 of Shemaiah8098 the prophet,5030 and of Iddo5714 the seer2374 concerning genealogies?3187 And there were wars4421 between Rehoboam7346 and Jeroboam3379 continually.3605 3117

16 And Rehoboam7346 slept7901 with his fathers,1 and was buried6912 in the city5892 of David:1732 and Abijah29 his son1121 reigned4427 in his stead.8478

2 And it came to pass that in the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had transgressed against the LORD,

2 And it came1961 to pass, that in the fifth2549 year8141 of king4428 Rehoboam7346 Shishak7895 king4428 of Egypt4714 came5927 up against5921 Jerusalem,3389 because3588 they had transgressed4603 against the LORD,3068

3 With twelve hundred chariots and sixty thousand horsemen; and the people were without number that came with him out of Egypt; the Lubims, the Sukkiims and the Ethiopians.

4 And he took the fenced cities which pertained to Judah, and came to Jerusalem.

4 And he took3920 the fenced4694 cities5892 which834 pertained to Judah,3063 and came935 to Jerusalem.3389

5 Then came Shemaiah the prophet to Rehoboam and to the princes of Judah that were gathered together at Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said unto them, Thus says the LORD: You have forsaken me, and therefore have I also left you in the hand of Shishak.

6 Whereupon the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, The LORD is righteous.

6 Whereupon the princes8269 of Israel3478 and the king4428 humbled3665 themselves; and they said,559 The LORD3068 is righteous.6662

8 Nevertheless they shall be his servants, that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.

8 Nevertheless3588 they shall be his servants;5650 that they may know3045 my service,5656 and the service5656 of the kingdoms4467 of the countries.776

9 So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the house of the LORD and the treasures of the king's house; he took all; he carried away also the shields of gold which Solomon had made.

10 Instead of which King Rehoboam made shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the chief of the guard that kept the entrance of the king's house.

10 Instead8478 of which king4428 Rehoboam7346 made6213 shields4043 of brass,5178 and committed6485 them to the hands3027 of the chief8269 of the guard,7323 that kept8104 the entrance6607 of the king's4428 house.1004

11 And when the king entered into the house of the LORD, the guard came and fetched them, and brought them again into the guard chamber.

11 And when1767 the king4428 entered935 into the house1004 of the LORD,3068 the guard7323 came935 and fetched5375 them, and brought7725 them again7725 into413 the guard7323 chamber.8372

12 And when he humbled himself, the wrath of the LORD turned from him, that he would not destroy him altogether; and also in Judah things went well.

12 And when he humbled3665 himself, the wrath639 of the LORD3068 turned7725 from him, that he would not destroy7843 him altogether:3617 and also1571 in Judah3063 things1697 went1961 well.2896

14 And he did evil before the LORD, for he did not prepare his heart to worship the LORD and to seek him with all his heart.

14 And he did6213 evil,7451 because3588 he prepared3559 not his heart3820 to seek1875 the LORD.3068

15 Now these are the acts of Rehoboam, first and last, to do evil before the LORD God of Israel. And there were wars between Rehoboam the son of Solomon and Jeroboam the son of Nebat continually.

16 And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David; and Abijah his son reigned in his stead.

16 And Rehoboam7346 slept7901 with his fathers,1 and was buried6912 in the city5892 of David:1732 and Abijah29 his son1121 reigned4427 in his stead.8478
